Bikini wax on period am I mad ?!

jimmyeatworld · 20/07/2025 17:37

Going away the weekend, high bikini wax booked in for tomorrow morning and of course, I came on yesterday. Is it going to be torture ?! I mean it’s always painful anyway, but is it ridiculously painful?
So annoying as I don’t use tampons either and now I need to go and buy some just for this !
Aibu? Should I just leave it ?!

My waxer is ok with it providing tampons or menstrual cups are used. I did ask because my cycle is unpredictable and I book weeks in advance and she's always booked up so rescheduling is tough.

tillyandmilly · 20/07/2025 21:29

Just buy a swimsuit ? Low legs problem sorted👍

Laura95167 · 20/07/2025 22:11

Woo woo cream?

Maryberrysaga · 20/07/2025 22:20

I have a Brazilian every 3 weeks. I do not have it if I’m on my period, although my therapist, who has been waxing me for years, would be fine with it.
I absolutely would have a standard bikini wax though. But, be aware, it will fucking HURT! I have mine every 3 weeks to try minimise the pain. My first wax after Covid was torture 🤣🤣 And it’s always worse before or after I’m on. I always take ibuprofen before, it helps. A little bit!

HÆLTHEPAIN · 20/07/2025 22:21

I’ve been having waxing for so long I don’t think I have any pain receptors left anywhere as I just enjoy the lay down and rest!! That said, it never bothered me even when it was a bit more noticeable. I’ve never had an issue with being on my period from the therapist either. I’ve never even mentioned it..just always worn a tampon or in recent years, a mooncup.

Though I’ve not practised for a long time, as an ex therapist, it wouldn’t bother me waxing people on their period..not sure why the previous poster said they wouldn’t like it. As long as you’re wearing a tampon/cup and are clean then there’s no problem!

Woo woo cream?

I second this. I've done shaving, professional and at home wax and woo woo cream is the best. I used it before and during my holiday last week and it's brilliant stuff, no burns or irritation and I have extremely sensitive skin.

mediummumma · 20/07/2025 22:32

I have regular Hollywood waxes and have often been on my period. Tampon in, a paracetamol before hand and it’s all good.

gamerchick · 20/07/2025 22:33

Lovesacake · 20/07/2025 19:57

I haven’t done this since the time the tampon was waxed right out of me by accident. Was mortifying. I had in quite big knickers too but a tiny bit of string must have escaped.

That was kind of the picture in my head

WaxyMcWaxerson · 21/07/2025 08:27

jimmyeatworld · 20/07/2025 20:46

It’s a high bikini, so they take off all the sides but also including going in towards the pubic bone

I think you're fine without even telling them then, put a tampon in and tuck the string away, they won't be going near it.
Just take a paracetamol beforehand.
It will be over soon enough and you'll be glad you did it.
Enjoy your holiday!!

pourmeadrinkpls · 21/07/2025 08:29

That's really disgusting OP, do you think it's fair to the person who has to do that?

How on earth is it disgusting? The therapist wouldn’t even know and from her perspective it will be no different from any other waxing session.

Surely there would be a smell of sorts 🤢 PP said she wouldn't do this.

Not if you take care of your personal hygiene, as you always should, but would probably give yourself an extra wash just before visiting the therapist.

daisydotss · 21/07/2025 09:37

Shower beforehand, fresh tampon and trim the string. I get them all the time on my period with a Hollywood and my waxer is open that she doesn’t mind and would rather I attend than cancel!

A smell? Why on earth would there be a smell? I always have a shower before any beauty treatment, but even if I didn’t, I wouldn’t smell.

Just leave it shave instead. It is also not fair on the therapist.

Yes this a bit grim for the therapist OP. Just shave.

It’s pretty disgusting you as a woman would tell another woman something completely natural is disgusting ! Are you a 14 year old boy?!

I am freshly showered, tampon in and I’ve just been to the toilet and give myself an extra wipe down with a baby wipe, more for my own piece of mind.

This is the thing, for me anyway, it fucking kills anyway, well the last one did at least !
So I’m wondering how much more could it possibly hurt ?!
I think I’m just going to go for it, shower, tampon and I don’t even need to remove my underwear, I think I’d feel differently if it was a Brazilian or something though !

Why on earth can’t you just shave if it’s outside the bikini line?

SweetFancyMoses · 21/07/2025 10:21

MsDDxx · 21/07/2025 10:17

I can’t imagine ever shaving my bikini line. It would be all stubbly within a day. Waxing is much better, for me anyway.

doodleschnoodle · 21/07/2025 10:21

Why would she smell? Confused If you’ve got a tampon in, nothing is coming out. What’s causing a smell?

God bless internalised misogyny.

Shaving a bikini line is awful compared to waxing. In-grown hairs, shaving rash, doesn’t last nearly as long.

doodleschnoodle · 21/07/2025 10:24

‘Enjoy your wax’ is probably not quite the right thing to say, OP, so enjoy being smooth after and I hope it’s not too painful! I do find it a bit more painful depending on cycle time but not massively so, plus some of it is variable depending on how much time between waxes anyway so probably not much in it.

Icanttakethisanymore · 21/07/2025 10:26

I've done this. Put a fresh tampon in and make sure the string is also out the way (you could cut it short of you want to be sure).

It'll be fine. I would mention it first though out of courtesy and check it's ok.

ETA i can't remember thinking it was any more painful. It's over fast anyway. I'd definitely do this over shaving.

Absentmindedsmile · 21/07/2025 10:27

Leave it this time. Start laser in future ..

please ignore this advice. Shaving down there? No way. Use hair removal cream if you can't go to the appointment.

jimmyeatworld · 21/07/2025 10:42

All done !! She didn’t care at all.
Also I barely felt it, I mean I felt it, but compared to that strip wax Hollywood I had last year that was pleasant 🤣
