I may be late to the party, but recently discovered it and wonder what others use it for?

I’ve never used it either, be interesting to hear other’s answers!

Everything!
counselling
meal idea
Diet and exercise ideas
photo edits
date ideas
holiday ideas
family ideas

Workingonthehighway · 18/07/2025 14:06

I just asked ot to help me clarify my career plans, i was feeling overwhelmed with ideas and chatgpt really helped to clarify and offer options.

NoSoupForU · 18/07/2025 14:07

Absolutely nothing. I had a play about with it and found the information it returned was vague, inaccurate and difficult to sift through.

I can see how it would be useful for things like recipes if you feed it a list of ingredients you have.

How does it work for photo edits?

Literally anything where I want to ask a very specific question, and then ask follow-up questions. Or if I want a step by step guide to doing something. I don't use it to create anything, such as content or images.

At work I might sometimes ask it to read and summarise a report, or collate some data in a table that would take me a lot longer in excel.

gamerchick · 18/07/2025 14:11

Nothing. AI is shit.

I wanted to know how many weeks there were to Christmas. I got a couple of different answers by AI on one page.

Still none the wiser.

This.

It’s a bit rubbish imo. Even when I’ve asked it to create policy documents or summarise information it’s impressively quick and efficient but still slightly ‘off’. I haven’t really used anything it’s produced.

KoalaBlueOssie · 18/07/2025 14:13

I’m late to the party too.
i’m into doing my family history. I am making folders.
But decided I need to change colours for each family.
I supply the information. And they have done Front Covers, Generation charts.
Only one they messed up, spelt Father wrong and also Grandfather.
When I said it was wrong, they offered to re do it.
I searched for WW 1 records for a great uncle, I had been looking for over a week.
Chat thing came up with the right information and a certificate in under 5 seconds.

My daughter is a teacher, and uses it to help with lesson plans.
Also it composes letters for a legal matter.

Are people not horrified at how much water it uses?

Radioundermypillow · 18/07/2025 14:17

I find it really handy for structuring essays and writing things quickly. I use it as a LLM, a large language model which it is brilliant at.

Some of my clients use it for counselling between sessions and find it very reassuring as it will tell you what you want to hear!

Evidently the environmental impact of AI doesn't matter to people when they want to use it to cut corners or twat about making fake images.

I'm horrified that teachers are using this shit for lesson plans too.

DIY step by step and advice on what power tool to buy for my needs
Recipes and meal plans, supportive "diet buddy"
Suggesting home design improvements
Suggesting vitamins

GhostsJulianforPrimeMinister · 18/07/2025 14:24

I’ve used it for advice on things as they crop up, I’m trying to be more careful with the products I use so this week I asked it to suggest alternatives to my current foundations and asked it to colour match based on my current foundation colour etc
the new foundation I’ve now got is a good match so it worked!
I also use it how to explain x or y to a 5 year old which helps when trying to figure how to word something to make make it too complicated to my DC.

I dont fly or drive I am a vegetarian i have a beautiful garden full of nature friendly plants, I recycle, i dont throw away food. I dont have a tumble dryer or dishwasher, I am very conscious about not wasting stuff, I also dont wash my towels daily 😂 I do my bit, i also occasionally use ai. I also dont consume much or make big purchases like new kitchens furniture etc unless absolutely necessary.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 18/07/2025 14:25

Yesterday I used it to tell me what plants to plant in each of my window boxes, based on whether they were north or south facing, the prevailing climate and the fact that I want to attract pollinators.

It suggested three or four plants for each window box and then asked me if I wanted a planting and maintenance schedule. I asked a few follow up questions about how to take care of some of the plants it suggested.

Yeah, I'm childfree, which is fantastic for the environment, but reading up on the consumption used by AI is nightmarish.

Plus, it's slop, not to be trusted or believed.

Eyesopenwideawake · 18/07/2025 14:28

Marketing plan, video scripts, letter outlines. All the stuff it would take me weeks to pull out of my tortured brain it does in seconds!

newbie202020 · 18/07/2025 14:30

There are loads of other AI tools to use and they serve different purposes - helping me get a great deal on a holiday, understanding if the fault of my car is a real issue and how much it should cost to fix - loads of things!

Photo editing tips (im good at photography but self taught and light room is a mystery!)
Help with structuring our home education
Simplifying things for home ed son
Rewriting emails for work. I'm autistic and can be a bit blunt, so it helps me to soften them

Pleasecleanmyhouse · 18/07/2025 14:35

Summarising informational books I want to read & don't have time too

Creating a cleaning plan for my house

Adding events to my calendar (advised how I like these set up and who go add for what type, then I can just voice note "Karen, birthday, July 18th"

Financial advise & mortgage calculations (obviously taking with a pinch of salt & fact checking before making moves on this)

Helping decide approach to emotional conversations where I may not be objective

Colour analysis, shape review & style advise

Date night planning

Gym / macro plan

I narcissistically asked it to create a profile of me based on my interactions with it. Then used that as a bit of a counselling thread to unpack some things

I also asked it to identify ways it could act as my personal assistant & started from there

courageiscontagious · 18/07/2025 14:38

I asked it to review the ingredients in my very expensive moisturiser and suggest a cheaper alternative that was similar.

it suggested one a tenth of the price that I swear is identical in every way, except it’s a different colour.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 18/07/2025 14:39

I have a tendency to ramble in emails or reports, Chat GPT does a great job at reducing the ramble down

Its provided some fantastic calming tools and tips to help 7yo DC with autistic meltdowns and came up with a great age appropriate way to explain to siblings

Ive used it to write multiple emails of complaint and concern to the school and Ofsted whilst taking my emotions out of the equation

I use it if something has bothered me and I'm not sure why, Its been good and letting me get everything out and provide some advice...I do occasionally use it as free therapy frankly.

I'm currently organising an international move for a client between two countries I do not live in or speak the language and it has been fantastic at finding me the correct companies and search terms when google did not.

Fitness plan built specifically for me taking into account my spare time etc...also a meal plan

I use it to help me build age appropriate routines for new parents

It did also do a great picture of my dog dressed as a sail boat captain once
