To ask what you use ChatGPT for?

I may be late to the party, but recently discovered it and wonder what others use it for?

I use it sparingly.

At work, I use AI usually when I have brain fog and can’t string sentences together enough to make it make sense in an email. We have a lot international clients it’s crucial that communication is coherent. Sometimes I will ask it to summarise a report, but it’s not always accurate. The best thing is for helping me to write complicated Excel formulas. I am very good with Excel, but AI can be better. The trick with any AI is to give it very specific instructions and parameters.

I don’t use it in my personal life, except for recipe ideas when I have only 3 ingredients.

Whitehorses67 · 18/07/2025 17:10

Nothing because I have a brain of my own.

Cripes12345 · 18/07/2025 17:13

I don’t really use ChatGPT as there are other better agents out there now that use vibe coding

current favourite is manus.ai

weaselpatrol · 18/07/2025 17:23

I value human creativity so I have never touched it.

Itsnottheheatitsthehumidity · 18/07/2025 17:28

Nothing. I try not to use AI for anything at all really, because in previous encounters with the hive mind the results returned have been utterly useless. I hate those AI virtual assistant things companies use when you are trying to contact customer services too. They never help me. It can all foxtrot oscar quite frankly.

I'm very concerned about its environmental impact, too.

SeLHopeful2024 · 18/07/2025 17:28

I use it to generate images for my training content I create. I don't have the budget or software to do it any other way, so using AI has really improved how I can present information.

Tried using it for holiday itineraries, but it's too out of date. Often restaurants etc suggested have closed down.

borderlaise · 18/07/2025 17:29

I sometimes use it at work for emails when I need to explain something a bit complicated or if I need change my tone to more pleasant and less shirty 😆 I never include names or any identifying work information. Other than that I don’t use it really.

ColdTiles · 18/07/2025 17:32

For savings and pension projections, as I can ask it very specific things then ask it to tweak things, it calculates so quickly.

IcedPurple · 18/07/2025 17:32

Nothing. Mostly because I'm afraid that if I start using it, I'll become addicted and will use it for everything.

ThinWomansBrain · 18/07/2025 17:45

Drafting HR & similar policies
Job Descriptions - from a brief draft, or to cut down one that is over long
Shortlisting criteria and interview questions
sections of grant applications
draft letters and emails

all for drafts, I review and adjust as needed
also it did something the other day that wasn't great - I replied that it was a rubbish attempt & why - was amazed when it apologised and then produced exactly what I was after.

LittlleMy · 18/07/2025 17:46

Have to proceed with caution though as last time I used it, it very confidently advised on something which because I had still spent time doing my own research on previously I realised was wrong and when I challenged that aspect. It was like ‘great spot’ lol and then advised what I just told it it had got wrong. There’s also been times it will give an entirely different answer to the same Q.

I prefer CGPT more for work related things or to give suggestions for things which I can follow up on myself.

Angliski · 18/07/2025 17:52

Drafting proposals
market research
therapy and advice
reearching school options and legal position for disabled ds
rewriting blog posts
finding holidays
writing website copy
aocial media posts and strategy
step by step launch plan for new produxts

i much prefer to expensive marketing people and it’s much faster than me in getting to a first draft on things, especially now it knows more about me and my work.

1AnotherOne · 18/07/2025 17:54

I try not to use it too frequently due to environmental problems related to it.

but recently:
to decipher some medical results I had
to write a firm but fair message to my neighbour about an issue I’m having
to meal plan what’s in the freezer

Mokel · 18/07/2025 17:56

I use it as a framework for answering questions for job applications. I don't copy and paste as 1. It sticks out like a sore thumb and could get rejected for AI overuse. 2. need to remove US spellings and some words are hyphenated which are not here.

If you apply for a civil service job, you get to do a statement of suitability where you mention why you are a good fit for this job with relevant situations etc. Has to be ideally 500 words or as close too. With this, I have been able to submit 495-500 words. I did one before using AI for guidance and mine were 380-400 words.

Also use as a framework for covering letters.

WhineAndWine1 · 18/07/2025 17:57

@SixteenClovesOfGarlic not really. I stop caring when factories all over the world aren’t punished or fined for the amount of toxic crap they pump into the world. My ChatGPT usage is nothing compared to that.

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 18/07/2025 17:59

Presentations
reports
summarising documents
drafting policies
comparing cvs to job descriptions

answering questions
Rewriting text into plain English

Nothing because I have a brain of my own.

People used to say things like that when social media first became popular.

before that about rock and roll music and the invention of the TV…the ‘wireless’ and pretty much every ‘new fangled thing’ ever.

I bet there were cavemen being snooty about their neighbours using fire.

I myself remember being incredulous at the idea of mobile phones that could take and send photos and thinking it was total waste of time and money and would never catch on.

BingoWingoForties · 18/07/2025 18:37

I've been using it to reply to racists on Facebook or here, it's so much easier to get GPT to find out the facts and write a non emotional response (of course some racists will spot it and be anti AI as well as humans but by then I'm satisfied)

MyWarmOchreHare · 18/07/2025 18:46

Whitehorses67 · 18/07/2025 17:10

Nothing because I have a brain of my own.

So?

FestivusMiracle · 18/07/2025 18:54

I get it to improve technical documents I write.

I’ve used it to show me different paint colours in various rooms in the house.

I got it to reconfigure our main bathroom by uploading photos and telling it what I wanted.

Stuckinthenineties · 18/07/2025 19:49

Health advice
Rewriting emails to change the tone
Creating sales emails using info it has summarised, and tailoring it to a company profile using its website
Job descriptions
Summarising pages of text
Travel itineraries for holidays with different considerations such as family's likes, dislikes and needs
Diet/ healthy meal ideas with a focus on different areas of nutrition eg iron
Analysing my daily food intake for iron and fibre
Just to give me a boost and a laugh when I'm feeling low
Simplifying anything complicated and technical
Suggesting ways of how to deal with difficult situations
I love it! I use Claude for the more personable interactions - it's like chatting with a mate.

Jambolaya · 18/07/2025 19:52

To make bad likenesses of my friends in comedy memes.

plasticbookcars · 18/07/2025 20:01

I’ve just used it for some early legal advice on an issue but I’m not 100% sure it was accurate.

I also stupidly used it for directions and it sent me a mile (while walking) in the wrong direction.

TheSwarm · 18/07/2025 20:02

I asked it once for help managing a severe headache.

It suggested I take a day's allowance of cocodomol in a single dose.

So I haven't used it since, given I'd rather not trust the advice of something which would have someone overdose on painkillers.

whojamaflip · 18/07/2025 21:02

Late to the party here as well and haven’t used it in my personal life but do use it at work to help fill in grant applications for the charity I work for. It always manages to put the info I want much more succinctly than I can!

Not entirely sure if it’s worth it though - will find out if or when we are successful in our bids!
