Pumpkin seeds stopped my leaking!

JemimaLikesADuck · 03/07/2025 12:20

After years of random leaking and dribbling after finishing on the loo, I have no issues!

I saw great reviews for a product that claimed to help with leaks but it was pricey. The main ingredient was pumpkin seed oil so I started eating a large handful of pumpkin seeds a day. After 3 weeks I noticed a difference and after 2 months the problem has gone. I can't believe it. Bit annoying that I'd seen a specialist who didn't think to tell me about this. If you are having the same symptoms you really need to try pumpkin seeds. I want to shout it from the rooftops.

Hi I've been following this thread and have also started using the H&B pumpkin seed oil capsules. It's been less than a week so probably too soon to tell but I do feel like I'm having less accidents where I'm not quite making it to the loo. My issue is urge incontinence where if I'm walking home from work thinking I need a wee when I get home, as soon as I get to the front door it's like there is no holding on anymore and I'm having to either stand still and try to 'gather' myself in order to make it up the stairs or I just go for it up the stairs and leak all the way.
It's always evenings after I've been sipping water all day. Never in the mornings, I can go for a run in the AM and not leak at all, a PM run is a very different story!
Anyway sorry for the essay, I'll report back once I've had time to assess if the pumpkins are working!

I'm exactly the same, once the urge is there I literally have to stop walking and clench with all my might to prevent leaking. Mine has only been an issue since I had a series of horrendous UTIs a couple of years ago so I'm wondering if there's some sort of bladder damage. Going to try these capsules!

scoobs321 · 11/09/2025 16:24

Just coming back on to update, I've been on the H&B pumpkin oil capsules since 5/8 and I can honestly say they are working. Im not getting the urgency later in the day and I haven't changed anything else except for taking the capsules. Really happy that it is working as I cannot afford the branded products (Jude).

SadAboutSD · 22/09/2025 20:04

Going to try this. Does anyone know: Does it make any difference to the effectiveness if I toast/roast/fry the pumpkin seeds, (maybe in some soy sauce or marmite or whatever), or must they be raw?

Thisismynewname23 · 22/09/2025 23:11

I’m not sure to be honest, I’ve just eaten them raw with my fruit and yoghurt. I mix them with almonds and a little nut butter drizzled over the top.

Treaclewell · 23/09/2025 09:27

Yesterday I had a test of the capsules, when I forgot to take meds in the morning. Put them ready but just didn't. Not, therefore knowing I had not taken the pumpkin, I was surprised when on two visits to the loo I found I had soaked my pad, very very unusual now. It was only when I found my waiting meds that I realised. The night was dry, following taking the capsule in the evening. A cause for thought, as the oil obviously doesn't fix the problem, just covers it up, so to speak. I'd really like something to stop it permanently. I need to order a new pack...

Thisismynewname23 · 23/09/2025 14:29

I’ve found doing pelvic floor exercises has helped hugely, I follow a woman on Instagram the female physio and she does a daily routine just reminds me to do it seeing her each day

ThePoshUns · 23/09/2025 15:43

Yes I follow her too, really good!

GAJLY · 23/09/2025 16:07

I've suffered with painful knees since a fall in my 20s. Tried lots of things, nothing worked. Was recommended surgery but refused as I was always busy (with events/work/getting married/having children etc). Gave up and lived with it until I saw a Barbara O'Neil video saying castor oil helps joint pain. Bought some, rubbed it on before bed, woke up and the pains gone!!! Put it on every night now, amazing!!!

Pumpkinsaremynewbestfriend · 24/09/2025 08:16

I don't leak, but every time I leave the house, I feel like I need to wee.

Am particularly bad in the car, feel like I can't hold it, but when I get to work, I don't even need to go.

Started taking Jude on Saturday (would have gone for the H&B capsules if I'd known about them before I ordered Jude as so much cheaper!)

Just wondering if anyone can advise how long they take to work? 🎃

Mine was quite quick, within a couple of days

Pumpkinsaremynewbestfriend · 24/09/2025 11:22

@notapizzaeater Thank you, fingers crossed that mine will work soon then.

I didn't realise how much bladder issues take over your life and how much mental energy they use.

Feel like I'm constantly thinking about whether I can go for another wee yet! 😭

Totallytametoucan · 24/09/2025 16:45

I've been having 2 dessert spoons of raw pumpkin seeds on my morning berries and yoghurt since finding this thread on 8 August. I really do think this has made a significant difference, and I haven't changed my liquid intake at all, it's always been high and remains so. Eg, I walk a mile to a Pilates class, and before would really need to have a wee before the class. Now I walk in, don't need to go, do the 50 minute class and still don't need to go. I can go and do some shopping, walk home and get through the door and to the toilet without any great urgency or accidents.

I've also been making myself some fruit and nut bars using a square of 90 or 100% dark chocolate melted in a silicone cake tray some dried fruits and nuts and a good sprinkling of the pumpkin seeds.

I also like them sprinkled on salads with humous or baba ganoush.

On the mental load of it all - I totally agree @Pumpkinsaremynewbestfriend it's been a constant worry for me about having somewhere to go and not drinking too much whilst out and about. Actually, I have automatically queued for the toilets before pilates a couple of time before realising I don't actually need to go - it's just habit. I was out for a long day last week, and pretty much forcing myself to go when the opportunity arose in a cafe and shopping centre, even though I didn't have the sensation of needing to go. I just felt I must need to go and would regret not trying when I had the chance. So hard to break the Pavlovian response to a nearby toilet!

Thisismynewname23 · 24/09/2025 19:54

The chocolate is a great idea I’m going to do that, a treat with some goodness will be fab x

Pumpkinsaremynewbestfriend · 24/09/2025 20:55

@Totallytametoucan That chocolate sounds amazing!

Thank you, I think I just need to give it a bit longer, as everyone here seems to have had really good results and I know that I'm just being a bit impatient.

Yes, it takes up so much headspace thinking about when to drink and how much and where the toilets are and if you even really need a wee, drives me mad!

JMSA · 25/09/2025 07:08

Hi everyone. On the back of this very useful thread, I have ordered two bottles of H&B pumpkin seed oil capsules (currently on BOGOF). I doubt it’ll do much good for me, as it’s leaking following childbirth that I have (youngest child is 16 😳). However, the way I see it, taking these is hardly going to hurt anyway! Pumpkin seed seems to have a range of benefits and if it improves my menopausal hair shedding, all the better!
Thanks.

Pumpkin seed extract from Victoria Health

Pumpkinsaremynewbestfriend · 27/09/2025 14:04

Pumpkin seed oil capsules are out of stock at Holland and Barrett, probably due to this thread! 😂

They're half price at Ocado though for anyone wanting to give them a try.

JMSA · 27/09/2025 18:17

Oh, I picked up my Holland & Barrett pumpkin seed oil capsules and have just noticed that they’re only 1000mg. The ones I’ve seen online are 3000mg. Silly me, I should have checked. I hope they’re going to be reasonably effective. And it’s weird that H&B market them as a men’s health product!

Pumpkin seeds are great for lots of things!

Pumpkin seeds are a nutritional powerhouse, offering various health benefits due to their rich content of fiber, healthy fats, protein, vitamins, and minerals. They are particularly known for their high levels of magnesium, zinc, and antioxidants, which contribute to heart health, improved sleep, and a stronger immune system.
Here's a more detailed look at the benefits:

  1. Heart Health: Pumpkin seeds are rich in magnesium, which is crucial for regulating blood pressure and maintaining a healthy heart. They also contain monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, including omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids, which can help lower bad cholesterol and improve overall heart health.
  2. Improved Sleep: Pumpkin seeds are a good source of tryptophan, an amino acid that the body converts into serotonin and then into melatonin, the hormone that regulates sleep. This can lead to improved sleep quality and a more restful night's sleep.
  3. Immune System Boost: The high zinc content in pumpkin seeds plays a vital role in strengthening the immune system and promoting wound healing.
  4. Blood Sugar Regulation: Pumpkin seeds have hypoglycemic properties, which can help regulate blood sugar levels and may be beneficial for individuals with diabetes, according to Verywell Health.
  5. Digestive Health: Pumpkin seeds are a good source of fiber, which aids in digestion, promotes regular bowel movements, and can help with weight management.
  6. Anti-inflammatory Properties: Pumpkin seeds contain antioxidants and other compounds that may help reduce inflammation in the body.
  7. Nutrient Rich: Pumpkin seeds are packed with essential nutrients, including protein, fiber, healthy fats, vitamins (like vitamin E), and minerals like iron and copper.
  8. May help with weight management: The combination of protein, fiber, and healthy fats in pumpkin seeds can help you feel fuller for longer, potentially aiding in weight loss or maintenance, according to 1mg.
In summary: Pumpkin seeds are a nutrient-dense food that offers a wide range of potential health benefits, including supporting heart health, improving sleep, boosting the immune system, and aiding digestion. They can be easily incorporated into a healthy diet as a snack or as an ingredient in various dishes, according to Healthline.

Do you happen to know if there are any reasons NOT to eat them (or take the capsules)?

I will google, but just thought I'd ask you too.

I had a stroke in January & it's affected my bladder. I can still wait to go fir ages (like mid I'm sitting on the sofa & it's made it's need known for a long time & of late I've been mostly going as soon as it does, but sometimes that's just not convenient! It's when I get up to go, I can't always 'hold it' until I get to the toilet & end up needing to change.

It's ok at home/friends etc but im finding it limiting as I'm concerned about going places where I might not have instant access to a toilet. I'm having to carry around spare things as well. I know I could wear pads, but if pumpkin seeds/capsules will help I'd rather do that.

but since the stroke I'm on a handful of meds & having to consider contra indications that I didn't beforehand.

Pumpkinsaremynewbestfriend · 27/09/2025 20:04

@jmsa Mine are 1000mg too, hope they still work!

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 27/09/2025 20:13

Pumpkin seeds are really good for worms as well.

Just to lower the tone here! Grin

wearyourpinkglove · 15/10/2025 20:57

@BernardButlersBra I've just seen your comment...based on the fact I said my husband has cancer and the misinformation from the previous poster is offensive I don't appreciate your silly comment. How many apricot seeds does it take to get cyanide poisoning? Maybe my husband who has passed away from cancer since my last post on here should have given it a go 🙄

Update: since I couldn't get a new pack from H&B I bought some from a company ca;;ed PipingRock. 3000mg, three times a fay with meals.Which different from H&B - 1000 mg once a day do not exceed stated dose. And I'm leaking more!

Itsallabouttea · 15/12/2025 20:49

Just hopping back on to say I've taken these for a few months now and they do definitely seem to help with the urge and leaking, although interestingly as a pp said they only seem to work whilst you're taking them - if I go a few days without I notice the leaking again. Not entirely sure I want to take them forever so may have to look into trying to sort the root cause!
