Is this enough drink for BBQ at the weekend?

Posting for traffic. I have 19 adults and one little girl coming for a BBQ on Saturday. I’m pretty confident there is enough food but I am worrying I haven’t bought enough to drink for everyone. I have a shop coming tomorrow morning so I have time to add more.

I reckon I have eight people who will drink and the rest won’t because of driving/ don’t drink.

One person I have called a non-drinker might have one or two but generally isn’t a big drinker otherwise. Obviously people will also bring drink.

For the drinkers I have:

  • 16 cans of Holsten Lager
  • A 5L keg of “nice beer”
  • Pimms (I will make jugs of it)
  • 1L Aperol for spritz
  • 2x bottles Prosecco plus extra Prosecco for the spritz
  • 1 bottle red wine (it doesn’t feel like the weather for this to me I just know one person is a big red drinker so I got it in)
  • 1L each Gin & Vodka (+ mixers)

For the non drinkers

  • 4L Diet Coke
  • 2L regular lemonade
  • 2L cloudy lemonade
  • 12 cans of alcohol free beer
  • 1L alcohol free gin
  • 8 cans of fancy flavoured sparkling water
  • 6 cans of ginger beer
  • Some fruit shoots for my niece

My question is about volume not about what you personally enjoy/don’t enjoy drinking - I have ordered stuff I know my guests like.

I would add in 4 more bottles of prosecco, plus some additional beers to be on the safe side.

hopefully people will bring additional, and it will always keep.

rubyslippers · 26/06/2025 19:38

It will be very warm so people will drink more of everything - alcohol and non alcoholic drinks
id deffo get more beer and prosecco and plenty of ice for soft drinks

Dangermoo · 26/06/2025 19:39

I agree with the prosecco and maybe swap some lager for cider.

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 26/06/2025 19:39

In there separate lemonade/prosecco/soda for Pimms and aperol spritz or is that included in above?

SunshineDeLaSoul · 26/06/2025 19:40

More fizz

MojitosAllRound · 26/06/2025 19:40

Some non-sparkling white wine?
There is plenty there in volume, and I like an occasional sparkling wine, but more than a glass or two, I prefer to move away from bubbles.

OMGitsnotgood · 26/06/2025 19:40

you need soda water (or mineral water) for the Aperol Spritz. Otherwise, you have a good selection but drink isn’t all down to you and you can’t second guess what everyone will drink. We generally say to guests ‘we are providing food and a selection of drinks. Please bring what you would like to drink to make sure we have everyone covered’

BananaCaramel · 26/06/2025 19:42

@OMGitsnotgood forgot to say I have loads of tonic and soda water to go with the Aperol spritz

Are you not expecting the drinkers to bring a bottle? Bit rude if they don't.

BrendaTheBlendeer · 26/06/2025 19:42

It's impossible to say really without knowing what drinks people drink, eg there's enough prosecco for two but not for eight, but fine if only two like it.

CheeryHelper · 26/06/2025 19:42

Not sure if they still do it but Sainsbury’s and Tesco used to let you return unopened bottles for a full refund. No risk then if you do buy too much.

Leeds2 · 26/06/2025 19:44

I would always have white wine. Not sure if you've forgotten it, or you know your guests don't drink it. I would also have more fizz.

Lmnop22 · 26/06/2025 19:46

I would say the male drinking guests (only in my experience don’t come for me!) will want beer and not Aperol/gin etc so maybe get some more beer so they can each have a few. But you’re definitely covered for spirits and cocktails. Sounds like a great bbq!

Newmeagain · 26/06/2025 19:48

Surely that’s loads! But I would only want a glass of white wine and that is not on your list.

Daisydoesnt · 26/06/2025 19:51

Surely even the drivers will have a drink or two, especially if it’s a BBQ stretching over the course of many hours? I know you say you know your guests but I think at BBQs the Prosecco, the beer and the lager will be most popular; GnT and VnTs less so. Therefore 2 bottles is nowhere near enough for 8 people, even without some of the non drinkers having a glass. I also think you need more lager. Personally I’d double the quantities of lager & Prosecco (and possibly add in a few white wines as well). Even if you don’t drink it at the weekend, at least you have all summer to do so!

didgeridid · 26/06/2025 19:52

I think that's more than enough. Normally people bring their own drink.

MellowPinkDeer · 26/06/2025 19:52

Where is your rose or white wine? I’d probably have 5 bottles of Prosecco and at least 3 of each wines

BananaCaramel · 26/06/2025 19:57

@MellowPinkDeer i have added some rose thank you - I don’t have white wine because the same people who drink white wine are the same people who drink Prosecco…and prefer Prosecco. The rose is a good shout though

BananaCaramel · 26/06/2025 19:57

@didgeridid I’m sure people will bring stuff as well - I always find it really tricky because you know people will bring stuff but you also don’t want to look like you haven’t provided…so invariably you end up with loads leftover

Notupmyalley · 26/06/2025 19:58

More prosecco
More wine

Some people will bring drinks as a gift for the host as well don't forget

Notreallyme27 · 26/06/2025 20:00

I’d say the you’d need more than two bottles of coke and lemonade for 20 people.

VerityBlueSky · 26/06/2025 20:02

What happened to the byob days?

TheKeatingFive · 26/06/2025 20:02

You definitely need more wine. Of both colours.

SupposesRoses · 26/06/2025 20:04

People will bring wine and drink beer.
Perhaps up the alcohol free beer, it seems like people drink more now it tastes a bit better
