Is this enough drink for BBQ at the weekend?

Posting for traffic. I have 19 adults and one little girl coming for a BBQ on Saturday. I’m pretty confident there is enough food but I am worrying I haven’t bought enough to drink for everyone. I have a shop coming tomorrow morning so I have time to add more.

I reckon I have eight people who will drink and the rest won’t because of driving/ don’t drink.

One person I have called a non-drinker might have one or two but generally isn’t a big drinker otherwise. Obviously people will also bring drink.

For the drinkers I have:

  • 16 cans of Holsten Lager
  • A 5L keg of “nice beer”
  • Pimms (I will make jugs of it)
  • 1L Aperol for spritz
  • 2x bottles Prosecco plus extra Prosecco for the spritz
  • 1 bottle red wine (it doesn’t feel like the weather for this to me I just know one person is a big red drinker so I got it in)
  • 1L each Gin & Vodka (+ mixers)

For the non drinkers

  • 4L Diet Coke
  • 2L regular lemonade
  • 2L cloudy lemonade
  • 12 cans of alcohol free beer
  • 1L alcohol free gin
  • 8 cans of fancy flavoured sparkling water
  • 6 cans of ginger beer
  • Some fruit shoots for my niece

My question is about volume not about what you personally enjoy/don’t enjoy drinking - I have ordered stuff I know my guests like.

Golden rule - always have more food and less drink. Someone can pop to the shops and grab more booze, but it’s frowned upon for them to go out and grab more food.

ZenNudist · 26/06/2025 20:04

4 more bottles of prosecco
3 white
3 Rose
Another 2 large packs of beer

Alternatively do your friends bring lots or are they the kind to turn up with less than they drink?

I mean, you are laughing if you have lots of gin drinkers but IME most women drink prosecco or rose at bbq and most men drink beer.

BananaCaramel · 26/06/2025 20:05

Okay so I have added two bottles of Rose (blush) and apparently the beer keg is 10L not 5 according to DH

I would never host that many people with only two bottles of Prosecco and a bottle of red. I would buy 4 more Prosecco and a couple of white or rose. Even the drivers might have one drink and what would you do then?

People arrive with booze but it might not be chilled.

BananaCaramel · 26/06/2025 20:22

So I now have 3 Prosecco’s and 2 Rose

@VerityBlueSky people do bring their own but you can’t host something and rely on people bringing their own - some people who bring stuff do so selfishly in my experience as well e.g., bring 4 specific beers that they want to drink rather than a bottle that everyone can share

I would buy more non alcoholic drinks.

purser25 · 26/06/2025 20:57

Some alcohol free wine is always nice and refreshing

Zanatdy · 26/06/2025 20:57

Yes more prosecco, and more white and red wine. People will bring a bottle but might drink more than 1 bottle. Depends how big drinkers they are really.

Delatron · 26/06/2025 21:01

Sometimes people don’t want loads of fizz. I’d have at least a few more bottles of white and rose. You can’t tell what people will fancy on the day…

Iamatwork · 26/06/2025 21:01

I'd buy more lemonade as it will likely be drank both by the none drinkers and mixed with alcohol.

BananaCaramel · 26/06/2025 21:07

Okay so I think I am good for beer - I have checked and the keg holds 18 pints so I have that plus the 16 cans.

I have added an extra Prosecco and two bottles of Rose - do you think I’m alright now considering everything else I have? I’m expecting the Pimms to be popular

legolegoeverywhereandnotadroptodrink · 26/06/2025 21:07

Do you need spirits? I would go for more wine and
def lose the vodka

BananaCaramel · 26/06/2025 21:11

@legolegoeverywhereandnotadroptodrink i’ve already got the vodka (I didn’t buy it special I just have it) but everyone coming loves a G&T

shazshaz · 26/06/2025 21:26

How about some bottles of sparkling water. I would also add more lemonade.

Ineffable23 · 26/06/2025 21:28

I think that sounds like plenty but you know your audience better than I do.

BananaCaramel · 26/06/2025 21:29

@shazshaz we have looooaaads of sparkling water I just didn’t count it because we always have it in the house. My husband orders 16L a week and gets very upset when we run out so there are 16L coming tomorrow in the shop plus the extra 10 he bought in Lidl this evening conventional support 🤣

Whenever I've had variety of drinks in summer, all anyone seems to drink is Rosé! You need rosé, it's very popular for summer BBQs.

Everybodysinthehousetonight · 26/06/2025 21:32

Sorry just seen you have added rose.

Tibby2024 · 26/06/2025 21:32

I’m so jealous sounds like it’s going to be a great bbq x

Everybodysinthehousetonight · 26/06/2025 21:33

I find people like one or max two Pimm's as it's super sweet and hard to drink loads of.

Do you have somewhere to keep it all cool/chilled? Do you have enough glassware?

Imonmyway · 26/06/2025 21:35

I'd buy more beer unless theres only a few going to drink it ?

Same with the prosecco. I find beer drinkers stay on beer, prosecco might go onto spirits

House0fBamboo · 26/06/2025 21:36

I'd like some soft drinks without sweetener. So either posh squash or Coca Cola . Everything else is artificially sweetened.

TheNightingalesStarling · 26/06/2025 21:40

More soft drinks. Everyone will be drinking those. Maybe flavoured water?

(Plus loads of ice)

FizzPlease · 26/06/2025 21:47

Non drinker here, but used to drink. I'd buy boxes/pouches of wine and pop them in the freezer prior to arrival so they will be nice and chilled. Take up less room than bottles on the table, you can buy red boxes too. Non drink wise I'd like a low sugar option and would love some mineral water - sparkling, but still would go down a treat too with some fresh limes in. Non alcohol beer is ideal and you can get some great non alcoholic fizz too these days (very cheap).

Sounds an amazing BBQ. Hope you all have a lovely time.
