Is this enough drink for BBQ at the weekend?

Posting for traffic. I have 19 adults and one little girl coming for a BBQ on Saturday. I’m pretty confident there is enough food but I am worrying I haven’t bought enough to drink for everyone. I have a shop coming tomorrow morning so I have time to add more.

I reckon I have eight people who will drink and the rest won’t because of driving/ don’t drink.

One person I have called a non-drinker might have one or two but generally isn’t a big drinker otherwise. Obviously people will also bring drink.

For the drinkers I have:

  • 16 cans of Holsten Lager
  • A 5L keg of “nice beer”
  • Pimms (I will make jugs of it)
  • 1L Aperol for spritz
  • 2x bottles Prosecco plus extra Prosecco for the spritz
  • 1 bottle red wine (it doesn’t feel like the weather for this to me I just know one person is a big red drinker so I got it in)
  • 1L each Gin & Vodka (+ mixers)

For the non drinkers

  • 4L Diet Coke
  • 2L regular lemonade
  • 2L cloudy lemonade
  • 12 cans of alcohol free beer
  • 1L alcohol free gin
  • 8 cans of fancy flavoured sparkling water
  • 6 cans of ginger beer
  • Some fruit shoots for my niece

My question is about volume not about what you personally enjoy/don’t enjoy drinking - I have ordered stuff I know my guests like.

Some fruit juices to mix with ice cubes & lemonade maybe.

BananaCaramel · 26/06/2025 21:49

@Notupmyalley I’ve got a giant flexi tub that I’m going to fill with ice for as much of it as will fit and then I have also got a bunch of flat cool bricks that I sort of plan to nestle in between bottles that will sit on the table.

I’ve ordered a load of disposable cups and plates - too many people to be dealing with washing up and we don’t have enough glasses anyway!

I think you’re very light on the Prosecco. I would get several bottles more, even if this means ditching something like the Aperol- my experience is this is the main thing people drink.

ForPearlViper · 26/06/2025 22:02

You obviously know your friends but the balance between spirits vs wine/beer feels odd from my perspective. More drinks party than meal. In fact, for a BBQ I'd be serving mainly wine and beer. If I wasn't driving, I'd be disappointed with the limited white wine. If I were driving, I'd be disappointed with lack of alcohol free beer.

Namenotimportant85 · 26/06/2025 22:12

sounds good to me 🤣 I’d add box of Budweiser aswell as a lot of people like bottled beer

Shinyandnew1 · 26/06/2025 22:24

My friends drink white wine rather than Prosecco, but I presume you know your audience? I'd get some more of that though.

I'd get more coke/lemonade.

mrsm43s · 26/06/2025 22:31

I'd ditch the spirits / Aperol / Pimms / Prosecco, and just provide beers and red, white and rose. 2x red if sure only one drinks it, but perhaps half a dozen each of white and rose. You'll have leftovers, but this way people have a choice.

It's going to be pretty hot this weekend, so I'd provide very generously for soft drinks.

hopspot · 26/06/2025 22:36

I think you need more soft drinks. On a hot day it will be drunk by everyone.

GasPanic · 26/06/2025 23:02

Remember to buy stuff that you are happy to drink yourself as a reserve.

That way if you buy too much you can just save it for normal consumption or xmas.

There are some interesting 0% alcohol beers you can get for the drivers.

Morrisions do a big 24 pack of Carlsberg on the cheap at the moment which could do a lot of heavy lifting in a crisis.

StarDolphins · 26/06/2025 23:05

I think you need more prosecco, there’s only 4 glasses in a bottle so I would get more just to be on the safe side. Hopefully people will bring alcohol. I wouldn’t turn up to a BBQ without a bottle.

TwinklyNight · 27/06/2025 05:21

Some bottles of water, non carbonated?

spoonbillstretford · 27/06/2025 05:26

No rosé? That goes down really well in warm weather. I wouldn't bother with prosecco and get pink wine instead.

caringcarer · 27/06/2025 05:29

2 bottles of Dry white wine plus 2 bottles of prosecco will surely only be enough for 3-4 people not 8. I'd say order 3 more bottles. Also as it's so hot more diet Coke and diet Lemonade.

What happened to the byob days?

This!! Why are you providing alcohol at all? People always just bring their own.

NeedToChangeName · 27/06/2025 05:48

BananaCaramel · 26/06/2025 21:29

@shazshaz we have looooaaads of sparkling water I just didn’t count it because we always have it in the house. My husband orders 16L a week and gets very upset when we run out so there are 16L coming tomorrow in the shop plus the extra 10 he bought in Lidl this evening conventional support 🤣

Edited

16L of sparkling water per week? Have you thought of getting a sodastream?

My friends would mostly drink white wine / fizz and beer and AF beer at a bbq

Because you are hosting! Of course you provide alcohol, and yes guests should bring drinks too. I did go to one once where people just brought and drank their own supply but thought that was bizarre, unfriendly and not a little chavvy.

We have one 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ it was working well until Russia started the war in Ukraine and the bottles of gas got really hard to buy…ever since then we have got out of the habit of buying it even though I’m sure it’s fine now - but I did say to DH that if they change our recycling like they are threatening to do he’s going to have to engage with it again

Utter bollocks!

Fitasafiddle1 · 27/06/2025 06:32

I sound have more on standby. I am always surprised by how much is polished off! Nothing worse than running out and you can put it away for another time xx

Utter bollocks!

Which bit is bollocks?

I would never host a party and provide nothing - equally I would never turn up to a party empty handed.

Fitasafiddle1 · 27/06/2025 06:33

I think you need white wine too. Prosecco can cause heartburn!

Fitasafiddle1 · 27/06/2025 06:34

I have 15 on Saturday night and now revising my own drinks, thanks op!

spoonbillstretford · 27/06/2025 06:36

That's why I went for pink, a bit more gentle. White is sometimes too acidic also. And a lot of prosecco is not great, and gets warm quickly on a hot day. Easier to stick ice in a glass of rosé too.

BananaCaramel · 27/06/2025 06:38

@Fitasafiddle1 it’s so hard isn’t it!

OP posts:
90yomakeuproom · 27/06/2025 06:38

I'd get another 16 beers.
