Just that...

Is this one of those threads where others do the work for you?

It’s spelt Qatar, not Quatar.

Ofcoursehesthefkingfarmer · 23/06/2025 21:35

not sure I ever viewed the sitch in the Middle East as funny but yeah, not cool.

ColinCaterpillarsNo1Fan · 23/06/2025 21:36

The US are firing missiles into Iran from their military base in Qatar and Iran are retaliating. So, technically Iran isn't attacking Qatar but the US military base there.

Dabralor · 23/06/2025 21:37

Fucks sake - start a thread if you have something of substance to say. Literally what is the point in this?

You could argue that this is a carefully choreographed and calibrated response by Iran to formally respond to the USA's bombing raid while limiting escalation any further. Thus paving the way towards sitting down and discussing areas of mutual interest.

ninjahamster · 23/06/2025 21:38

It’s all carefully orchestrated. Iran get to save face, USA go along with it.

RebelMoon · 23/06/2025 21:38

It never was funny, don't be so flippant when people are dying. This is deadly serious. If you don't understand the issues do some research.

AmberKoala · 23/06/2025 21:39

Come on I did not mean funny ha ha. You know. As for the spelling of Qatar. Thank you.

Fingers crossed that this is true.

Jennps · 23/06/2025 21:42

So Qatar is literally the official safe haven for Hamas. It’s where Hamas leaders live, sponsored by the Qatari government.

Qatar, and most of the Middle East, does not get on with Iran.

Isreal is attacking Iran for supporting Hamas and Hezbollah, while being friends with Qatar.

Qatar is a western ally, giving private jets and what not to Trump. Yet somehow it does matter that the entire Hamas infrastructure is run from Qatar.

Iran is attacking Qatar, where Hamas leaders live, remember.

And all is clear is as mud. Someone square that circle.

The whole thing is one big con to rip off taxpayers to fund wars. Follow the money.

BeliesBelief · 23/06/2025 21:43

It was purely a face-saving gesture, not a real, escalatory attack.

Iran is in no position to fight a full scale war with the US and they are well aware of that. They have no air defence left. Israeli jets are controlling their airspace. Iran would be obliterated in any major confrontation with the US.

The Iranians needed to fire a few missiles at something belonging to the US so they could say they’d got their own back. They pre-warned the Americans so they could make sure nobody got hurt.

Trump has indicated that he sees the matter as settled. Israel and Iran will probably continue trading missiles for the next few weeks but the US’s direct involvement is almost certainly over.

CremeEggThief · 23/06/2025 21:43

Poor taste, OP, and not showing yourself at your brightest either. YABU.

greencrab · 23/06/2025 21:43

Sorry what kind of funny did you mean? It wasn't funny as in odd either.

Iran warned before sending missiles as they did in 2020 to avoid any casualties. Actually seem to be the most sensible party in all of this, didn't attack first like Israel. Didn't make massive u turns calling for diplomatic solutions then immediately attacking then posting the attack was weak then "thanks for the early warning" and now welcome to peace.

AmberKoala · 23/06/2025 21:44

Do you not get it . I am being serious. It's just not funny means not taken seriously. I am saying the opposite but maybe you need to learn the nuance of language .

Sorry @AmberKoala but inanity is not a synonym for nuance and it can’t be passed off as nuance either

On relative ‘sensibility’ of parties to this conflict, Israel has got exactly what they wanted out of this scenario - they bombed Iran hoping to persuade the US to take out Iran’s nuclear enrichment sites for them, and now that’s happened. They’ve achieved their objectives.

Unforgettablefire · 23/06/2025 21:46

I don’t think there was, or is meant to be anything funny about it.

Qatar and Iran are allies. UAE and Saudi were on the other side, until the world cup when things settled down a bit.

RebelMoon · 23/06/2025 21:48

Yes that's right, carry on laughing.

Nobody with half a brain would think to use the word "funny" in connection with this issue.

And you need to learn how to be more precise and not be flippant in your thread titles and stop wasting people's time.

HappierTimesAhead · 23/06/2025 21:51

No casualties reported from Iran's attack on American airbases which hopefully means Iran can say it retaliated but everyone can just calm down and take a step back. Having said that, I don't think Israel have any intention of stepping back.

AmberKoala · 23/06/2025 21:53

Alright I am out. If it's not funny anymore in English means it's serious. It is an English idiom not to taken literally. If you don't understand that don't comment.

Oh yes definitely.

The situation FIFA are in trying to arrange the world cup groups within this is mildly funny. Everything else not so much
