Hi please tell me honestly if this is me being too serious or am I right?

I love animals and never want to see any being harmed. I have my own cat who is my little shadow and best friend.

I have a new friend (6 months give or take.) She knows I love animals and how much I love my cat.

Anyway, she keeps saying how much she dislikes cats and is going to skin mine when she comes to visit. I laughed this off.

she sent me a vid where an animal was being mistreated and I asked her not to send me anything like that, sort of laughed this off.

She told me she previously went to a festival and left her dog home alone without no one coming to feed it etc for 4 days. She gave the dog up eventually. I didn’t comment.

Last night she sent me a video of two rabbits all well and fluffy at first then the video cuts out and then two rabbits skinned and put on sticks appear, they’re then cooked and eaten.

I politely asked her not to send me anything like that. She said I’m a meat eater so shouldn’t be bothered. I said I know I am but I don’t want to see videos like this.

is this weird? She hasn’t said she’s joking but seems to find winding me up like this amusing. I’m rethinking my friendship???

She sounds like a psychopath. Why would you think you were being 'too serious'? If I tell a friend to stop sending me something, whether it's animal mistreatment videos, Trump raving, or clips of people having their blackheads squeezed, I expect them to respect that.

MiddleAgedDread · 12/06/2025 15:05

That's horrible, I'd block her number.

Drummend01 · 12/06/2025 15:06

Run. They are not a true friend.

FloraBotticelli · 12/06/2025 15:07

Of course it’s weird. Stop engaging with her.

yestothat · 12/06/2025 15:07

Of course it is weird. It’s weird not to be able to recognise it is without asking others too

something2say · 12/06/2025 15:08

That is disturbing stuff and you are right to be shocked and reconsider the relationship.

I dated a chap once and I was at my friends and mentioned the fire pit in his garden and then the dogs, and he replied 'Put the dogs on the fire?' VERY shocking thing to say. He did not last long with me, and this was a pattern of bad things to say.

I would get out of that friendship quick sharp. No use wasting your time.

hydriotaphia · 12/06/2025 15:08

I would end this friendship. She sounds horrible and maybe dangerous.

ellie09 · 12/06/2025 15:08

Why are you friends with people like this?

Read back on what your wrote and ask yourself what advice you would give somebody else.

Duckduck2 · 12/06/2025 15:09

She is not a friend.
She is a psychopath.
She does not respect you.
It’s not a joke to send things like that.

Block immediately.

Coffeeishot · 12/06/2025 15:09

I don't know why you are bothering with her she's obviously not a pleasant person and sharing videos of animal abuse is a crime.

chocolatemademefat · 12/06/2025 15:10

Make sure she doesn’t come to visit. Psycho. I wouldn’t consider her a friend - block her.

purpleme12 · 12/06/2025 15:10

Erm quite honestly with all the things you've mentioned I think I'd have to stop being friends with this person

That goes beyond someone thinking they're being funny...

And it's not something a friend who do

Doyouremembergirl · 12/06/2025 15:11

Get this vile supporter of animal abuse out of your life OP x

ShellieAnn · 12/06/2025 15:11

Get rid of her, she sounds horrific.

Pallisers · 12/06/2025 15:11

why on earth are you friends with this nasty nutcase?

loropianalover · 12/06/2025 15:12

That is disturbing but to be honest OP it’s also disturbing that you didn’t completely shut her down immediately and that you’re questioning whether or not this is ok?

The number one thing we all know about people who are rotten in the brain is that they will mistreat animals. The fact this person left their dog unattended to for days and then gave them away would have been enough for me to block them.

Kangarude · 12/06/2025 15:12

I am not an animal lover but I would ditch anyone who thought it was ok to view or send images of animals being mistreated in any way.
You shouldn’t even need to ask

DitzyDerbyBabe86 · 12/06/2025 15:13

One of our acquaintances, who doesn’t like cats, used to often tell me he’d love to suffocate my cat. Absolutely vile human.

Clarinet1 · 12/06/2025 15:13

She sounds ghastly and, at the very least, not someone who shares your views enough for you to have anything to do with her.
Block her and run a mile very fast if you ever see her!

MattCauthon · 12/06/2025 15:14

I echo the people who think this is disturbing.

But even if she thinks these are perfectly normal comments/ videos and her friend Mary thinks it's hilarious - you're in the early stages of developing a friendship. Like dating, part of this is figuring out if you like the same things, have similar values, enjoy the same sense of humour. Clearly, in your case, the answer to those questions is NO. SO I think this friendship needs to slide back into casual acquaintanceship. At most.

C080889 · 12/06/2025 15:14

Wouldnt have chance to be in the same room as my cat or she would be getting skinned

Discoprincess6 · 12/06/2025 15:17

Thank you.

I kind of let it slide because I don’t have that many friends. I have a very big family and I have my fiancé but only two long term friends.

so I went to a new group and I ended up meeting her. I’m going to let the friendship go.

How can you even begin to contemplate being friends with someone who clearly enjoys animal cruelty?

She's despicable. In fact, I'd even go so far as reporting someone to the police if they sent me messages like that.

Hkakge · 12/06/2025 15:17

Jeez, why do you want to be friends with someone like that? I could not get past the leaving the dog alone uncared for at home for days, that's pure cruelty and inexcusable

BusySittingDown · 12/06/2025 15:18

She sounds like a psychopath, what a weirdo!

I'm not a massive cat person - I get sick of the neighbourhood cats crapping on my lawn and tbh, I'm a bit scared of them! 😳😂

However, I love watching cute cat videos and would hate to see any come to harm. I like looking at cats, they're so cute. I'm just bloody terrified of them scratching me!

Also, why would you talk like that about someone's beloved pet? For some people it's as bad as talking about their child, eg "I hate kids. I'm gonna kick yours when I come round". Weird!
