Put off cauliflower for life after tonight

Lovely friend popped over earlier as I've been feeling low. She brought dinner but cooked it at my house. She made roasted cauliflower like the bang bang cauliflower you get at restaurants. Delicious. But oh my god. The smell in my house is now 🤢 I'm actually feeling nauseous just from the lingering smell uggghhh

There is nothing good about cauliflower in any of its permutations.

Maggotously disgusting food.

Stopitbella · 09/06/2025 21:19

I made cauliflower rice once and couldn’t look at it again for about a year afterwards. The smell was horrendous.

This is exactly where I am at. What am I going to do about the smell??? Candles and open windows are not cutting it. I'm already nervous about waking up to it tomorrow

I love cauli in any form but roasted is my absolute favourite, just leave the windows open for a bit

GetMeOutOfHere20 · 09/06/2025 21:23

Could she share a recipe please?

Changedusernameforthis2 · 09/06/2025 21:25

I'm not sure where she got the recipe. She just googled it I think. It was very very tasty but the smell is making me very bilious

Wait until the...ahem...effects hit. Not going to help the situation!

Maggotously is my word of the week 😊.

I love the taste of cauliflower, but lord-a-mercy. The farts. Off the scale.

Westpoint · 09/06/2025 21:31

When my husband was doing low carbing I made us an absolutely banging kedgeree substituting cauliflower rice for regular rice. Unfortunately he came down with norovirus swiftly after. That was nearly 10 years ago 😂

Nah curly kale is more caterpillar-y.

Oh god it smells. Always salt soak curly kale you've grown yourself.

Pelifor · 09/06/2025 21:42

My lovely late FIL used to grow cauliflower. He would hand me one on every visit. I have never seen anything quite so full of bugs and caterpillars.

AnneLovesGilbert · 09/06/2025 21:46

God I love cauliflower. Never noticed any particular smell and I have an inconveniently sensitive nose. We eat it every week.

I saw something very upsetting about figs a while back - previously one of my favourite foods in the world - and can never eat them again. I’m still in mourning.

TheChosenTwo · 09/06/2025 21:48

What?! we eat cauliflower a lot, I love it, never noticed any lingering or unpleasant smell!

powershowerforanhour · 09/06/2025 21:48

What? Actually no, don't tell me. I love figs.

powershowerforanhour · 09/06/2025 21:51

I like cauliflower as god intended- steamed, raw or in cauliflower cheese, or aloo gobi.
Cauliflower "steak"- balls to it
Cauliflower "rice" - balls to that as well
Food pretending to be other food is a load of balls.

Lovewineandchocolate · 09/06/2025 21:52

I have my new puppy lying at my feet and would happily swap the smell of his maggotously (fab word) farts for cauliflower any day 😫😂😂

retiredpickme · 09/06/2025 21:55

I remember reading an article by a pathologist who said corpses smell like cauliflower cheese (it might have been the stomach contents or something) and it put me off massively 🤢

Beautifulweeds · 10/06/2025 20:17

Really? Cooking fish yes but not cauliflower. I actually hate it so don't have it very often but when I do, with cheese, which makes it more bearable, I've not noticed smells before before and after?

Now, a hot chilli, curry or baked beans yes the after...

HiddenInCubeOfCheese · 10/06/2025 20:19

I came across an IG video the other day where someone used cauliflower instead of flour for a chocolate cake.

Stop the world.

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 10/06/2025 20:19

I love cauliflower.
The real criminal vegetable is kale. I'm convinced people only pretend to like it as it tastes like farts. At least cauliflower gives you a nice taste before the gas kicks in

Cauliflower rice is rice.

I assume it put you off cauliflower cheese rather than corpses.
