Is the buyer a CF or am I?

I sold something for a couple of pounds on Vinted. I’d run out of new postage bags, I could either wait a few days to order & receive some more or reuse one I’d received something in and post it immediately. I decided on tbe latter, turned the bag inside out so the old label was inside, all info crossed out . It looked like new from tbe outside and was securely packaged. I thought to myself actually I should do that more often, better for the planet etc.
The buyer didn’t leave me feedback (thankfully), but did send me a message saying tbey didn’t appreciate being sent something in packaging that had already been used. Honestly, the packaging was like new from tbe outside.. I responded politely saying it was that or she had to wait longer for her £2.50 item, and tbat it was ironic that someone buying second hand clothes and tben complaining about 2nd hand (but new looking) packaging, I won’t enter into any further communication.
Before I re-use packaging again, I thought I’d ask on here whether it’s not the done thing and everyone expects new packaging? Receiving messages like that doesn’t bother me but my concern is whether another buyer might leave me poor feedback, which might affect future sales. Am I missing something?

Unreasonable buyer. I've put on my Vinted profile that I'll reuse packaging, partly to stop stupid complaints like this. I usually wrap it nicely in brown paper from Amazon packages, and then tape up a reused bag or jiffy bag. Pretty much all my feedback mentions how well packaged it was.

JJxxxxx · 15/05/2025 18:42

The buyer is!

I thought one of the highlights of Vinted was recycling? ♻️

I keep Amazon boxes etc to use to send items 🤷‍♀️😊

Agapornis · 15/05/2025 18:45

The only unsuitable packaging is inadequate packaging. After three attempts at buying one, I'm not buying a plasma lamp (thin glass ball) on Vinted again! Thankfully all refunded but jeez, one person stuck it in a bin bag with 2 bits of tissue paper and said she 'did the best I could with what I had' 🙄 thankfully got refunds with no hassle.

Oh, this is so cool! I’m in another European countries but only 3 others on vinted! May I ask, out of curiosity, what countries do you see on vinted?

I get Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Epli · 15/05/2025 19:08

I do the same, I keep bags from my deliveries to use them on vinted. I often get my orders packed in supermarket bags :D

RandomUsernameHere · 15/05/2025 19:23

The buyer is an idiot! I’ve sent and received loads of Vinted parcels in reused packaging, wouldn’t occur to me not to.

Fangisnotacoward · 15/05/2025 19:32

The buyer is a CF. I've had parcels come in a plastic bag wrapped in brown tape.

Oh dear you wouldn't like my packaging then!
I've just cut up a plastic dog food sack and packed 2 bras in it! They are in a plastic shein wrapper inside. I turned the bag inside out so the plain white is on the outside!! Does it really matter ?

This one hadn’t been cleaned…..
Everything stunk of dog biscuits and when you have cats yourself not ideal as they’d tried to get in it.

To clarify they had literally put clothing into the used bag and zipped it back up. I’d have no issue with it clean and inside out!

nomas · 15/05/2025 20:00

She is batshit. I reuse the bags that I’ve had stuff delivered in from online retailers. I do use them the right way round though.

perfectstorm · 15/05/2025 20:20

I prefer used packaging, if clean enough. It's environmentally awful to regard packaging as single-use. Good for you.

Eenameenadeeka · 15/05/2025 20:21

She's being rediculous

AnneMarieW · 15/05/2025 20:58

Depends on how you worded it to her as to whether you were being unreasonable- ie. “I’m sorry you were upset - often people choose to buy second hand clothes for environmental reasons, so I was also reusing plastic packaging for the same reasons” seems reasonable. And if she had also asked for it quickly, saying that buying new packaging would have delayed the item (although not beyond the max Vinted allow?) would also be reasonable.

If you talked about “irony” and “not entering into further communication” then YABU and it’s not great customer service- doesn’t matter that it was a £2.50 item or not, you don’t need to sell at that price if it’s not worth it to you.

Oh, and haven’t read the whole thread so don’t know if anyone has suggested it, but I buy a fair few second hand clothing items from Vinted and eBay and sometimes Sellers wrap the clothing in new tissue paper (cheap and environmentally more friendly as well as looking nice) whilst still reusing an old outer plastic bag for more protection - best of both worlds then.

whynotmereally · 15/05/2025 21:35

I rarely receive new packaging and a few times it’s arrived in a coop carrier bag!

Jb0011 · 15/05/2025 21:50

I use any old (clean) carrier bag i can find. Or any packaging really. I received books in a box that had 3 labels on,I added a new label when I sent off a pair of boots 🤣🤣 I'm not buying specific bags for couple of pound items

seven201 · 15/05/2025 21:50

I’m pretty sure Vinted encourage and recommend recycling packaging.

Sw1989 · 16/05/2025 07:56

What is a CF?

I've only ever had positive feedback for doing this. One buyer left feedback saying that they thought it was great that I had used 'green' (as in re-used) packaging.

looselegs · 16/05/2025 13:39

I've received stuff wrapped in carrier bags, bin bags and even a cat food box! As long as I get it. I don't care!
