Is the buyer a CF or am I?

I sold something for a couple of pounds on Vinted. I’d run out of new postage bags, I could either wait a few days to order & receive some more or reuse one I’d received something in and post it immediately. I decided on tbe latter, turned the bag inside out so the old label was inside, all info crossed out . It looked like new from tbe outside and was securely packaged. I thought to myself actually I should do that more often, better for the planet etc.
The buyer didn’t leave me feedback (thankfully), but did send me a message saying tbey didn’t appreciate being sent something in packaging that had already been used. Honestly, the packaging was like new from tbe outside.. I responded politely saying it was that or she had to wait longer for her £2.50 item, and tbat it was ironic that someone buying second hand clothes and tben complaining about 2nd hand (but new looking) packaging, I won’t enter into any further communication.
Before I re-use packaging again, I thought I’d ask on here whether it’s not the done thing and everyone expects new packaging? Receiving messages like that doesn’t bother me but my concern is whether another buyer might leave me poor feedback, which might affect future sales. Am I missing something?

Also the ewwww germs, dirty, bacteria people - and there are loads of them about - are not going to be buying second hand on Vinted, are they?

I’ve been sent stuff using reused packaging from eBay sellers recently. It’s a non issue! I’m fine with it and better for the environment!!

CleaningAngel · 15/05/2025 17:57

FancyCatSlave · 15/05/2025 15:49

I would say that about 75% of all my vinted parcels come in used packaging and it is absolutely fine. I did have one thing in a dog food bag which got a raised eyebrow from me but that’s all.
You are absolutely in the right @OMGitsnotgood

Oh dear you wouldn't like my packaging then!
I've just cut up a plastic dog food sack and packed 2 bras in it! They are in a plastic shein wrapper inside. I turned the bag inside out so the plain white is on the outside!! Does it really matter ?

Londonrach1 · 15/05/2025 18:00

Everyone reuses envelopes etc if they can. I'd block buyer and move on from this. Buyer is vvv strange. You not a shop but even shops are now recycling

Doggymummar · 15/05/2025 18:00

I always use old packaging. My items are in there inventory bag as well tho. So not touching the bag. My profile also says my items are thrifted and although I am per and smoke free I can't vouch from wence they came. One person left neutral feedback to say she had to wash it before wearing it - I do that with new items let alone used.n

I'm in Portugal and there are six or so countries in our Vinted market. I've never once received or sent a parcel in new packaging - isn't that the whole point? It's about reducing waste.

I've received things in cereal boxes, TV boxes, supermarket bags, clothes shop bags, amazon boxes, all sorts. Who cares? It's second hand clothes.

Edited

Oh, this is so cool! I’m in another European countries but only 3 others on vinted! May I ask, out of curiosity, what countries do you see on vinted?

Blanknotebook · 15/05/2025 18:04

The buyer sounds like a CF. The item she was buying was already a used article. Most people wash pre loved clothing before they wear it regardless of how clean it looks when it arrives. There is nothing wrong with using recycled packaging. It is much better for the environment.

Gdrhbxfhcg · 15/05/2025 18:05

I send my vinted stuff in what ever carrier bags I have in the drawer and I most often receive items in carrier bags too

Add long as the packing is clean and secure I don't see why it matters

Rosierambles · 15/05/2025 18:08

I always reuse bags and expect stuff in used bags.

Summerhillsquare · 15/05/2025 18:08

I never use anything but reused packaging, it's the whole point of preloved!

YearlySubscriptionRenewal · 15/05/2025 18:15

Completely batshit, the whole point of Vinted and these thick packages is to reuse them.

CantStopMoving · 15/05/2025 18:16

I thought the whole point was it was a reuse and recycle experience!

if I don’t have anything to reuse I use a bin liner which I wrap multiple times so won’t rip and put duck tape on the edges. Never had an issue. On occupation I just wrap in brown paper like a present.

I wouldn’t expect someone to buy expensive packaging- that’s crazy .

BotterMon · 15/05/2025 18:17

Your buyer is an imbecile.

YearlySubscriptionRenewal · 15/05/2025 18:18

Eldermillennialmum · 15/05/2025 17:36

I'm not sure why you turned it inside out as you basically put the outside that would have been dirty or germy that you put her item in but otherwise no issue with used packaging.

huh?

Of course you turn the packaging inside out, so there's space for new labels.
Do you believe your NEW clothes come from a sterile environment when they turn up?

You are buying second-hand clothes, just wash them.

StasisMom · 15/05/2025 18:19

It’s good you recycled!

Dinosweetpea · 15/05/2025 18:19

I sell and buy loads on Vinted. I always turn bags I've received items in inside out (unless the label is easily removable/coverable) and re-use them - every single time - unless in bad condition/ripped etc.
She's being utterly ridiculous.

I've had things sent in all sorts of random things - carrier bags, bin bags, once a Christmas paper gift bag taped up!

CitizenofMoronia · 15/05/2025 16:12

Shs mental... ignore and block

That would be a bit of an overreaction

Lovelysummerdays · 15/05/2025 18:22

I’ve had it sent in all sorts. Inside out bag for life, used packaging etc. sometimes people wrsp the item in a sheet of tissue paper which always makes me happy.

LurcherMumma · 15/05/2025 18:24

No I don't expect a pristine new package on vinted!!!
My days no wonder nothings actually affordable on there anymore.
That's like going to a charity shop and expecting a branded luxury paper bag.

fiorentina · 15/05/2025 18:27

I reuse packaging all the time. And have had others in a carrier bag, reused shoe box etc. as long as they aren’t damp or smelly I have no issue..

AFingerofFudge · 15/05/2025 18:28

That is crazy!! Of course it makes sense to reuse suitable packaging I say suitable as a seller recently sent me a piece of pottery in a Jiffy bag. No extra protection. Arrived in about 100 pieces unsurprisingly.

Myonlysunshine123 · 15/05/2025 18:30

We use cat food boxes, she'd love me 🤣. Its environmentally friendly to reuse isn't it

suburburban · 15/05/2025 18:35

I always reuse packaging. How ridiculous of them

IzzyHandsIsMySpiritAnimal · 15/05/2025 18:36

Buyer is being ridiculous. They paid for the item and postage.
As long as the packaging wasn't broken (causing damage to the item) then all good.
I often reuse packaging. One of the community ventures I work at reuses packaging. My SIL, when sending anything reuses packaging. So does my sibling, my best friend and pretty much everyone else I know.

Conkerjar · 15/05/2025 18:41

Buyer is unreasonable. I thank people for reusing packaging! Assuages my guilt slightly 😅
