Is the buyer a CF or am I?

I sold something for a couple of pounds on Vinted. I’d run out of new postage bags, I could either wait a few days to order & receive some more or reuse one I’d received something in and post it immediately. I decided on tbe latter, turned the bag inside out so the old label was inside, all info crossed out . It looked like new from tbe outside and was securely packaged. I thought to myself actually I should do that more often, better for the planet etc.
The buyer didn’t leave me feedback (thankfully), but did send me a message saying tbey didn’t appreciate being sent something in packaging that had already been used. Honestly, the packaging was like new from tbe outside.. I responded politely saying it was that or she had to wait longer for her £2.50 item, and tbat it was ironic that someone buying second hand clothes and tben complaining about 2nd hand (but new looking) packaging, I won’t enter into any further communication.
Before I re-use packaging again, I thought I’d ask on here whether it’s not the done thing and everyone expects new packaging? Receiving messages like that doesn’t bother me but my concern is whether another buyer might leave me poor feedback, which might affect future sales. Am I missing something?

Your buyer is a headcase. The important thing is packaging the item so to ensure there is sufficient bubble wrap/padding depending on how breakable the item is. Presentation is not important.

SparklyGlitterballs · 15/05/2025 17:15

Blimey my DD has received things in all sorts of old packaging. She's sent stuff herself in a supermarket bag for life, all taped up. As long as it's secure, it shouldn't matter. As you say, the item is second hand so why not the packaging?

Doncarlos · 15/05/2025 17:16

I do this all the time. As long as it is clean what’s the issue. Most of my Vinted purchases arrive in carrier bags.

Mellowautumnmists · 15/05/2025 17:18

I wonder what her reviews are like!

MellowCritic · 15/05/2025 17:23

I've had items sent to me in carrier bags from the supermarket . As long as it's clean and secure, not sure what else you can expect for items coming to you essentially no different to a car boot sale 🤣

Hankunamatata · 15/05/2025 17:25

Iv used plastic shopping bags to post before

Pollyanna87 · 15/05/2025 17:25

One time, I had an eBay purchase sent in the box of a National Geographic toy which appeared to be a remote-controlled, realistic looking tarantula. Massive picture of tarantula on the box. I left it on my doorstep for a few days as I didn’t dare to open it in case I’d been sent the tarantula toy by mistake 😂

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 15/05/2025 17:26

Can't say it bothers me in the slightest.

Destiny123 · 15/05/2025 17:26

Totally fine by me for clothes etc. Resented the moron that sent 2 lovely bedside lights with stone based and proper silk lampshades slung in a black sack not even secured together. Arrived smashed to smithereens, was so annoyed as thought I'd finally found the shades I absolutely loved. Vinted wouldn't even refund me unless I paid the postage to return them to her and she was rude as anything telling me wasn't remotely her fault

lalalalalady · 15/05/2025 17:27

Buyer is an idiot. Her item was a couple of pounds not an expensive designer item needing good quality packaging.

PrincessSakura · 15/05/2025 17:27

I have never purchased packing bags, I always reuse packaging from items I’ve purchased myself and I’ve never had an issue.

ThatCyanCat · 15/05/2025 17:27

So many people think Vinted is a marketplace for professional businesses looking to give wonderful customer experience rather than an online car boot sale.

Fuckitydoodah · 15/05/2025 17:28

They're being a CF

Surely, the majority of people send stuff in reused packaging. I do. I've got loads of old parcel bags. I wouldn't even bother to reply to them.

HateThese4Leggedbeasts · 15/05/2025 17:29

What a unanimous aibu. You should send your buyer a link to this thread 😆

MoistVonL · 15/05/2025 17:29

I’m not sure I’ve ever had new packaging from a second hand purchase. Your buyer was batshit.

ThePoshUns · 15/05/2025 17:31

I package most of mine in Next/ M&S packages inside out. Better for the environment. Your buyer is weird.

EsmeQuibbles · 15/05/2025 17:32

As long as an item turns up and is as described, it has never bothered me.

Eldermillennialmum · 15/05/2025 17:36

I'm not sure why you turned it inside out as you basically put the outside that would have been dirty or germy that you put her item in but otherwise no issue with used packaging.

Evaka · 15/05/2025 17:38

What a tit. You're absolutely NBU. Feel free to send them the link to these pages of validation if you're feeling petty ;)

CCLCECSC · 15/05/2025 17:39

You're doing a good thing by reusing packaging! So long as the packaging is fit for purpose it doesn't matter.

SilverBlue56 · 15/05/2025 17:40

I once received an item stuffed into an empty dog food (kibble) box 🤣 It didn't SEEM to have any dog biscuit dust remaining inside but it did make me laugh. Items get washed straight away anyway!

GotToWearShades · 15/05/2025 17:41

In my 20 odd years in the book trade I've never considered it unusual to reuse packaging. In libraries we were reusing packaging in the 80s even before green values and initiatives were a thing. It's ridiculous not to. However, inside out is not generally a thing. Cover label is the norm

AFrankExchangeofViews · 15/05/2025 17:41

I once had an item from Ebay arrive in a folded up old Dominos Pizza box, with cheese still attached. Your buyer is ridiculous, especially for a £2.50 item.

Ironically because I thought it looked better inside out and as I’ve said, I wasn’t sure whether all labels were the same size to cover the existing one. It really didn’t look dirty but accept there might be germs on it. Unlikely to reallly harm anyone but thank goodness for being able to wash things just in case.

As I said up thread, had the buyer had said she found tbe inside out packaging unhygienic, I’d have just rolled my eyes and make a point of not doing it again. But her only complaint was that it was used packaging.

To be fair, who knows what issues the buyer has,and I was pleasant enough in my response to her. This thread was more to find out whether other buyers might be offended to avoid potentially poor feedback, so I appreciate all the responses. , I will continue to reuse packages but take on board the point about not turning inside out.

My DD buys and sells on Vinted all the time and has never, ever used new packaging.
