To think this isn't great for £55?

We ordered 20 cupcakes from a local cake shop for my child's 6th birthday to give to her friends at the end of the day at school. Paid when ordering (no images available or book to choose from and the staff member serving just told us to go online to look at examples on their social media profile, but we were in a queue and didn't even have WiFi). Picked them up today. I'm not going to complain and I'm sure they're going to taste nice but at £55 for 20 of these, were my expectations not reasonable?

Images take a few minutes to come through.

YYYDlilah · 01/05/2025 20:21

The suspense is killing me.

The image will appear shortly, just needs to be approved first.

Surely if it was a local cake shop there were cakes there on display when you placed your order? (So you could see what they sell and ask for a box of XYZ?)

DancefloorAcrobatics · 01/05/2025 20:22

Can't wait to see them!

NamechangeJunebaby · 01/05/2025 20:22

I need to see the cakes…..

RipleyJones · 01/05/2025 20:23

Ooo what Do 20 cupcakes for £55 look like … 👀👀👀👀

SushiDisco · 01/05/2025 20:24

Although I can’t see the picture yet YABU for spending £55 on cupcakes for 6 year olds🤣

HappyHunting101 · 01/05/2025 20:24

Cake tease is a new thing.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 01/05/2025 20:25

Your expectations can’t have been that high if you were happy to buy mystery cupcakes OP! I hope this photo gets approved soon 😅

nomas · 01/05/2025 20:26

Should have gone to Lola’s Cupcakes, if one was near.

BallerinaRadio · 01/05/2025 20:26

I'm not sure you can complain too much, you spent £55 on cupcakes you haven't even seen never mind tasted that's a bit of a gamble

user1471538275 · 01/05/2025 20:26

£55 for 20 cupcakes seems to be standard and from what I can see for 'birthday cupcakes' they're not particularly exciting for that money.

A birthday cake for 20 people would probably cost about that much, if not more I suppose.

titchy · 01/05/2025 20:26

Who on earth pays £2.25 per cupcake for a kid’s party bagConfused

NoWordForFluffy · 01/05/2025 20:27

I voted YABU purely because there's no image!

Edited

There were tray bakes available at the counter, and ice creams. no actual cupcakes left, unfortunately. we asked to see what kind of cupcakes they did (I expected a book to choose from or a few pics on a phone), but no, just said they could do buttercream in either chocolate or vanilla, and offered us sprinkles and an age. I wasn't expecting a bill of £55 but - disclaimer - for that price i was expecting something luxurious. I'm sorry the image isn't availabl yet, i haven't added an image onto MN before - soon i hope!

Crunchymum · 01/05/2025 20:28

They look alright to me? What's your issue?

(Although I agree you are mad to pay that much to begin with?)

I know, we will NEVER take an excited child into a cake shop again and ask what flavour cupcakes she wants, we were stupid and pressured. and i honestly didn't think it could go wrong this far. Idiots!

I'd say they lo9k very basic for that price. But cupcakes are really expensive

Loafbeginsat60 · 01/05/2025 20:28

Hmm they look a bit amateurish for £55

ToKittyornottoKitty · 01/05/2025 20:28

Oh I’m disappointed now I’ve seen the picture, YABU, those cupcakes look fine for the price. What else were you expecting? The only daft thing here is you paying £55 for cupcakes for small children.

Hoplolly · 01/05/2025 20:28

Doesn't seem too unreasonable.

I paid £140 for 48 cupcakes recently (for work) and they weren't much different.

YYYDlilah · 01/05/2025 20:28

How big are they?
