Thong bikinis in public swimming pools

Had a bit of a shock today: went with my friend to a public pool and a young woman came in displaying both her butt cheeks in one of those thong bikinis.

These seem to be common on beaches nowadays (I love getting the sun to my bum but I wouldn't inflict it on anyone, and do it in the garden!) but I was a bit uncomfortable seeing it in the local council pool. It's not like the sun can get to it in there! As the baths are much more packed than a beach, one winds up getting closer to someone's naked bottom than one would prefer. I'm also not sure how hygenic it is. Wondered if I am just getting old and prudish or if other people react similarly!

Why are posters making out that bums have not always been covered and private?! It's just a bum. Yes it is and it's usually in underwear/trousers/skirt. Saying fair play and personal preference fine, but making out bums on show publicly is totally normal is odd imo. I feel the same about bums hanging out of barely there shorts. Nothing to do with jealousy, I don't particularly care but I do notice. Obviously we all have our opinion on whether they look good or not.
They don't seem to be a thing in Ireland - other posters may disagree- I've only ever seen one abroad and she looked like Gwyneth P. I'll be ready for it now this summer! 🌞

Thongs are unhygienic but not sure it makes much of a difference at a public swimming pool except I suppose they people are pretty much putting their bare asses on surfaces.

Do they not get wedged in? How do you remove any jammed in bit discreetly? Or do you just walk about with a giant wedgie?

You could possibly do front crawl safely in a thong but definitely very risky for breastroke. Personally I'd want more coverage.

Yer but why wear a bikini top at all? It's only flesh so just wap the baps out, why not?

Makes no logical sense people saying that thongs are okay around children but topless is not.

I’m not saying there is anything wrong with bikini tops either , I’m saying the pp thinks thong bottoms are not ok , but I bet she thinks bikini tops are fine ..
It’s swimwear , whether it be a swimsuit, bikini, thong bottom, full brief bottoms..
I don’t get fussed by people’s choice of swimwear in pools ..
My kids take zero notice either , too busy having a good time …

I remember being a teenager in school and getting angry about some boys bringing in a picture of a topless 'page three girl' to maths class. The boys told me I was just jealous. I wasn't, but it felt shaming somehow and successfully shut me down. Your suggestion to OP that she is just jealous reminds me of those teenage boys playing that power game.

Humans are sexual beings. The clothes we choose to wear can enhance our sexual signalling, and most of us can and will ramp it up or down at different times.

Surely thats the point of sexy lingerie? Why would there even be a market for the stuff if it was just the same as any other kind of underwear.

Swimwear is the same. There’s a big difference between a Speedo swimsuit and a thong bikini deliberately designed to frame and expose a part of our bodies that many people, especially heterosexual men, find very alluring.

It's fairly normal to be fair, British people just a bit prudish ive seen both men and woman at pools wearing thong swimwear alot of country's see thong bikinis as standard swimwear its just bum cheeks there not actually sexual

I see one regularly at my David Lloyd. It doesn’t bother me, but she’s a proper exhibitionist, walks up and down the side of the pool with her phone or whatever. Literally nobody else does that. I’ve never seen anyone else at DL with a thong, either.

And this is an indoor pool, so it’s not as if it’s summer outside, and she’s trying to get her arse cheeks brown.

You do get mens but there not as popular as womens ive worn a swimming thong when I do lane swimming and to be honest there alot better for swimming in than trunks

They’re pretty standard now. But I do have to admit when I was in Brazil I often felt myself grasping my metaphorical pearls. Cheeks…. Everywhere
