Thong bikinis in public swimming pools

Had a bit of a shock today: went with my friend to a public pool and a young woman came in displaying both her butt cheeks in one of those thong bikinis.

These seem to be common on beaches nowadays (I love getting the sun to my bum but I wouldn't inflict it on anyone, and do it in the garden!) but I was a bit uncomfortable seeing it in the local council pool. It's not like the sun can get to it in there! As the baths are much more packed than a beach, one winds up getting closer to someone's naked bottom than one would prefer. I'm also not sure how hygenic it is. Wondered if I am just getting old and prudish or if other people react similarly!

I go to a David Lloyd.So many arses on show in the Spa,I think they look revolting and hilarious at the same time,endlessly entertaining.

I must be getting old because I think they are totally inappropriate for a public swimming pool. I think they look hideous too and I’ve yet to see anyone suit them.

I noticed that was the same on the last thread (which I didn't start) as well. So I feel I've found my tribe even if it's the silent majority!

It’s swim wear , some prefer full brief bottom , others thong . It’s down to a person’s preference..

I think they’re totally inappropriate in public swimming baths. However, I feel sorry for those who wear them, who are needing constant validation from men about them looking attractive enough. Last time I went to a public baths, I saw parents having fun with their kids, teens mucking about with their mates, older people going for actual exercise and then a small minority of women who wouldn’t get their hair wet, insisted on standing in the shallower bits so their bum remained on display and spent a huge amount of time walking around the perimeter, yanking their thong even higher each time.

They probably saw it as being body confident but real confidence comes from not needing to parade your arse you spent hours honing, for men of all ages to ogle. It’s also ridiculous to go to a pool but not actually swim or even sit in the water, just keep walking around.

The last visit, I saw a girl in a white thong swimsuit who kept sitting in the water, pulling the costume taut over her chest and then walking around. Everything was on show, including her thin line of pubes. She got lots of attention from men but looked no older than 16 and a complete misfit amongst her mates who were in practical speedo costumes and were actually having fun.

My biggest bugbear is young girls thinking this is the next thing they have to do to get a boyfriend and male attention. Kids who are barely teens are wearing thongs to the pool and high cut shorts with their area out. They’re not with parents and goodness knows how many dirty perverts are watching them.

You can't swim in a thong though. At least not properly.

l don’t want to see someone’s arse in the baths. Whether it’s their preference or not. I don’t really want my kids seeing someone’s arse much either. I’m sure it’s not their preference to have a backside shoved in their faces.

It’s like guys walking round town with tops off. I do t want to see someone’s sweaty back in Boots.

Time and place

I’m currently staying in a resort on an island. Women are walking through the restaurant wearing them for god’s sake. I just think they’re thoroughly vile & make me feel slightly sick every time I see them. It’s just yet another symptom of our over liberalised porn saturated culture. Makes me feel very sad that this is a thing in public bathing pools in good old England - never would have been even a decade ago.

I think the gross thing about it isn't soley the arse cheeks on full display, but more the obvious desperado attention seeking on show.

That time and place is not waving your arse hole in front of kids trying to go down a water slide behind you, a la previous posters. If that was a man, there's a likelihood he would be accused of indecent exposure.

Women can absolutely be guilty of indecent exposure. But not according to mumsnet, us women can never do any wrong because we're all simply victims.

It's out of order in the context, and clearly to what our society deems appropriate. I just don't see the desperate need to flash your arse in front of kids to be honest, at the local swimming pool. Well, I do, and that's kind of the problem.

Similar to gym wear becoming more skimpy etc.

What's the big deal? Recently I've taken to wearing long sleeve as I'm more comfortable with that. Thongs don't bother me. I rather admire their confidence.

Yes I hate it too. I remember going on a catamaran trip on holiday once and had to look at bare bums for a few of hours. It was really horrible!

Okay. I swim pretty much every week year round but I’m pretty lazy with shaving my pits especially in the winter. Didn’t realise I could be making people uncomfortable 😳.

I'd rather people were a bit more modest, but ultimately it's up to them.

I saw a woman wearing a thong bathing suit the last time I took my baby swimming, she looked amazing to be honest and I wished I looked as good as her. You sure you are not jealous OP!
