Dolly Parton songs make me cry

So much so that I have to turn them off when I'm driving to work. Jolene came on the radio this week, and it got me again. Coat of many colours gets me too. I think she's an amazing woman and artist, but she's maybe too good at getting to the emotions. Anyone else?

Ps I've never had anyone steal my man so not identifying with the lyrics in that way

I love Dolly Parton.

SeekingAnswersToProblems · 10/04/2025 20:07

One of my favourite Dolly facts is that she wrote Jolene and I Will Always Love You on the same day.

IntheSpaghetti · 10/04/2025 20:08

So sad that her husband has recently passed away. I love her songs too.

LoudSnoringDog · 10/04/2025 20:08

Jolene was my mums favourite song. She passed away in 2017. Really bizarrely, every time we go on holiday, it’s played in a really random setting. Reminds me she’s around me. She loved Dolly

I think she is fab. I saw her last year (not in concert, it was an interview and I was in the audience) and she was very funny. Very switched on about how to maximise profits too!

I like country music though, so I am biased. Currently have a thing for JellyRoll. Love his voice and his lyrics too.

Her latest, to her husband - if you hadn't been there, makes me cry and feel sad about my husband, and he's very much alive

Needspaceforlego · 10/04/2025 20:13

She sings from the heart.
Coat of many Colours is so so powerful.
It has everything, poverty, mums love & talent, her pride in it and then being effectively bullied.

Justmuddlingalong · 10/04/2025 20:18

Saw her in concert a few years ago.
Her rendition of "Little Sparrow" absolutely broke me.
Her show was fabulous and I'd recommend it to anyone.

I love Dolly and she is so incredibly generous. When DD first started school we were told about the Dolly Parton books she would receive. I was so confused wondering why 4 year olds would want regular books about Dolly Parton 😂😂😂

JackieDaytonaLuckyBrews · 10/04/2025 20:20

I love her ♥️

Dolly is universally ADORED in this family.
Hugely talented singer songwriter, genuine working class success, philanthropist, plus she’s so unapologetically Dolly.
She’s just the best.
Makes me cry too.

Poppymeldrum · 10/04/2025 20:26

I still cry at coat of many colours!

OnTheBoardwalk · 10/04/2025 20:32

Wasn’t a Dolly fan but went on holiday with a friend and her destination choice for the trip was Dollywood.

I was absolutely blown away with Dolly and everything she has done for so many people (and continues to do) and how much she is loved by so many

I’m a Dolly fan now and her songs do make me cry, well apart from vaccine which is hilarious

Oh me too - maybe thats why her songs are emotional? she's just such a lovely person and she's very heartfelt and also really witty. I love that she doesnt take the haters to heart and just makes a joke out of any barbs sent her way. She's true class. Love her.

XWKD · 10/04/2025 20:42

I think she's amazing.

Shaniva · 10/04/2025 20:45

How strange. I've had her songs on a loop on Spotify for the last week. Surprised myself with how much I'm enjoying loads of her stuff, not just the biggest hits.

Cosyvibes · 10/04/2025 21:07

Can I also please add that Dolly and Kenny Rodgers are magnificent together 💖

NerrSnerr · 10/04/2025 21:17

I love Dolly. I have recently been listening to her early stuff- so many of the songs show how much of a feminist she has always been. She is amazing.

Endofyear · 10/04/2025 21:21

Coat of Many Colours gets me every time! And Letter to Heaven 😭
