anyone else have this sore throat virus

i have had a sore throat when swallowing the pain is unreal the back of my throat is clear no redness no white patches doctor has checked me over twice now and i’ve had this for 9 days !
keep coughing a lot also
doctor won’t give anything because it’s viral and it won’t help anyway but i am so miserable not being able to swallow properly 🤦🏻‍♀️

YES!!!! I’ve had it for 4 weeks. Went to the doctor a couple of days ago who said they couldn’t see anything at the back of my throat. I haven’t slept well in 4 weeks as it’s worse at night, like swallowing knives. I have to get up and make a hot drink to soothe it. Paracetamol all the time. Nothing else is wrong with me apart from my throat…

Was it your tonsils, just around the bend so your tongue hides it a bit? I had that for a couple of weeks. It didn’t hurt to talk but swallowing really really hurt. There’s still a slight pain if I yawn for some reason.

Yes!! It’s strange isn’t it! I experienced more pain on swallowing definitely, it would make me wince. I would wake up feeling like I had razor blades in my throat.

It lasted just over 4 weeks then just went, this was about 1 week ago! my husband started with it a couple of days ago and he has been gargling warm salt water and it seems to have helped a bit.

Gargling diluted TCP always gets rid of a sore throat for me. I absolutely swear by it. It smells strong though.

I’ve got it at the moment but I’ve also got a heavy cold and crippling fatigue.

i’ve been gargling warm salt water i’ve tried everything and nothing seems to help makes my eyes water sometimes it’s that bad when swallowing the gp did say there is a nasty throat virus going about at the min and it will settle when it settles hopefully it goes soon i can’t deal with it i said this morning i don’t think i can deal another day with this pain 🤦🏻‍♀️ x

Me too, I’ve had it since Wednesday, I’ve completely lost my voice though - I’m on day 3 of whispering and signing my kids.

Have you tried difflam spray or gargling soluble aspirin?

I’ve tried gargling salt water, TCP (which is my usual go to), diflam spray, gargling aspirin, sucking sweets, honey and lemon - literally nothing is helping. GP can’t find signs of a bacterial infection, says it just needs to run its course.

At a guess, I'd say more people in my area have had it than not! Flaws everyone. Razor throat, loss of voice, sinus and ear issues, vertigo, cough, and dreadful lethargy. Can go on for weeks. Just as you think you are getting over it, it comes back. It's wretched. Hope you feel better soon.

@Jellycatspyjamas this is exactly what my GP said but with the amount of pain i’m in i really thought they would of seen something
they said the same let it go on its own how long that will take i’ll never know 🤦🏻‍♀️

It’s not been a week yet for me but I can’t remember the last time I was so floored by a virus - even Covid wasn’t this bad.

Yes, the only relief I get in gargling corsodyl mouthwash. I've also been putting anbesol liquid on a cotton bud and reaching down my throat to wipe it on the sorest parts. Hurts like hell at first but as anbesol is an anesthetic it numbs the pain really well.

Doesn't help that I have a cough as well, covid tests have been negative.

Yes!! I'm heading into week 2 of it now and it's horrendous. Paired with an awful irritating cough, a 4yo and a 7mo I can't deal with it much longer, as me and the youngest have barely slept in day as I'm waking her up.

@InALonelyWorld this is me too up all night long coughing and then the pain when swallowing omg awful i never ever get sore throats but wow i never wanna have this again!
im currently 18 weeks pregnant and i have 2yr old 3yr old and 4yr old they all have runny snotty noses and coughs think they was the ones who brought this virus home

Yep. Husband gave it to me. So many people have it around here. Our GP surgery is very short staffed because of it.

I have asthma and hayfever too which isn't helping.

@justasking111 i think my partner past it on to me as he kept saying few weeks ago his throat was hurting and it was going on for weeks and then he said his buisness partner was complaining about the same thing i said best go and get it checked as its not normal to have a sore throat for that long he’s better now and im in absolute agony constantly with it !
let’s hope it subsides soon

@justasking111 it was either my partner who passed it to me or my kids as they’ve all been poorly brining a lot of stuff home from nursey and school .

I have a sore throat going on the 11th day, it's getting worse. She thinks it's acid reflux, it does not feel like acid reflux. It feels like a sore throat. Cant swallow, lost voice.

I have it here in Thailand!

It's worse than covid. I've completely lost my voice and I've never had such a sore throat.

I get tonsillitis fairly often, but it doesn't compare to this at all pain wise.

I am taking paracetamol 4 hourly and sucking on medicated strepsils, but it is horrible. I am living on protein shakes as I can't swallow anything else. Weirdly water makes my throat burn.

I've never, ever had such a sore throat in my life.

@FeministUnderTheCatriarchy it’s awful isn’t it i never ever suffer with sore throats but this is hell it just won’t go it’s been ages now and i feel like it’s getting worse i’ve had everything from over the counter medication wise and it doesn’t take it away yesterday felt like it was getting better and last night it come back worse now this morning can’t even drink again 🤦🏻‍♀️

@Stansgotplans i’m getting worried cos i’ve read sore throats should only last 10 days but mine is getting worse and been going on way longer than 10 days now

the pain also goes in my right ear when i swallow doctor said all nerve related and it will pass
