Labour activists are so aggressive

skintasabint · 22/03/2025 13:21

My town is preparing for a b-election due to the previous MP beating up a member of the public.

Today I visited the old town to pick up a couple of bits of shopping and I thought I would take a walk with my daughter in the pram.

I was walking minding my own business when I was approached by 2 older ladies handing out leaflets, that was no problem and I accepted one. They tried to get me to stop and talk but I politely said I didn’t have the time and went on my way.

I went around the corner and 2 more approached me, these ones were early 20s men? And I say this in the nicest possible way. They were wearing the far left “uniform”. Multicoloured hair, the pronoun badges etc..

They tried to pass me numerous leaflets but I told them I was in a rush and just kept on walking. Tell me why they decided it was appropriate to follow me down the street letting me know that reform are racist and if I want to save the town I shouldn’t vote for reform. They just wouldn’t stop badgering me even though I asked them twice to please leave me alone. Even crossing over the road with me as I tried to get away.

They really intimidated me, and just would not take no for an answer. I just wanted a little walk with my baby, who has had me up most of the night teething.

Sorry, I just wanted a rant. I did vote for Labour in the previous election but this new person just isn’t the right person for my town so I’m unsure of who I will vote for this time around.

That’s awful, in future say - in a loud voice- go away, leave me alone - and repeat it loudly.

TheAlertFinch · 22/03/2025 13:27

You lost me at 'far left uniform'

BarneyRonson · 22/03/2025 13:27

I know. They are a bunch of attention seeking histrionic bullies and I’m so tired of “celebrating” all the things they approve of.

528htz · 22/03/2025 13:28

I'd be tempted to wind them up by loudly emphasising how great Reform are 😂

skintasabint · 22/03/2025 13:30

I wouldn’t even know who Reform are putting up for the election, the previous MP was decent tbf

The Reform candidate hasn't been announced yet.

Maitri108 · 22/03/2025 13:40

They sound like Viz characters.

PlasticBags · 22/03/2025 13:41

So two Labour leafleters kept after you, and even though the two previous ones behaved entirely appropriately, you’ve now decided on a sample size of two that all Labour canvassers are ‘so aggressive’? Despite the fact that your own experience within fifty yards of street disproves this?

You know exactly what it is though!

You see it in your mind’s eye and you cringe.

The far left ‘uniform’ around here is much more army surplus gear, Docs and donkey jackets. Worn by middle-aged men.

Nah, I cringe at your description of the 'far left uniform'

skintasabint · 22/03/2025 14:11

@PlasticBagsof course not, the first pair were polite but these ones were something else. Normally people offer you a leaflet and you can take one or decline. These pair just wouldn’t leave me alone and I felt intimidated.

Vote Reform to silently get them back?

Yes, but that was precisely two people. Exactly the same number as the two Labour women who handed you a leaflet and respected your desire not to have a conversation. Yet your title is ‘Labour activists are so aggressive’. No, they aren’t. Two Labour activists you encountered were aggressive.

Exactly. @skintasabint complain to your local Labour HQ if you feel strongly.

BunfightBetty · 22/03/2025 14:24

The two younger activists do sound inappropriately persistent and this will be totally counter-productive to their aims.

If you’re a Labour supporter/friendly to their aims, it might be worth dropping a line to the local party, explaining how off-putting it was, so they can retrain them in the more subtle arts of persuasion.

Of course, if you support another party, don’t say anything and let them crack on pissing off floating voters!

Where did I describe it? Show me my description of the 'far left uniform'.

You might want to cringe at your own reading comprehension.

Exactly this. If you want them to do well, help them out; if you don't, let them scare everyone away.

Bruisername · 22/03/2025 14:30

I had some momentum people knock on my door at the election (not campaigning for labour) and they were very polite and respectful despite me asking some difficult questions. Not what I expected tbh so was pleasantly surprised

BreezyShaker · 22/03/2025 14:32

Far left uniform! You are not wrong though, they definitely have a “look”. Reform will win that seat. If the sitting Labour MP was not a thug there wouldn’t need to be an election.

WatermelonLolly · 22/03/2025 14:38

If it’s the seat I think it is then reform are nailed on to win if they are fielding a candidate because of the numerous ongoing issues with migrants in the area.

I work in this area and hear the issues regularly from colleagues who live in the area and service users, and also have seen it with my own eyes.

Mrsdyna · 22/03/2025 14:44

I would hate this so much, canvassing doesn't give you a right to hound people.

Mrsdyna · 22/03/2025 14:46

When is the by-election?
