Labour activists are so aggressive

My town is preparing for a b-election due to the previous MP beating up a member of the public.

Today I visited the old town to pick up a couple of bits of shopping and I thought I would take a walk with my daughter in the pram.

I was walking minding my own business when I was approached by 2 older ladies handing out leaflets, that was no problem and I accepted one. They tried to get me to stop and talk but I politely said I didn’t have the time and went on my way.

I went around the corner and 2 more approached me, these ones were early 20s men? And I say this in the nicest possible way. They were wearing the far left “uniform”. Multicoloured hair, the pronoun badges etc..

They tried to pass me numerous leaflets but I told them I was in a rush and just kept on walking. Tell me why they decided it was appropriate to follow me down the street letting me know that reform are racist and if I want to save the town I shouldn’t vote for reform. They just wouldn’t stop badgering me even though I asked them twice to please leave me alone. Even crossing over the road with me as I tried to get away.

They really intimidated me, and just would not take no for an answer. I just wanted a little walk with my baby, who has had me up most of the night teething.

Sorry, I just wanted a rant. I did vote for Labour in the previous election but this new person just isn’t the right person for my town so I’m unsure of who I will vote for this time around.

😂😂 yup, the second most of us see these sorts of utter fukwits, it’s a case of trying to cross the road thinking ‘whatever you’re going to say, just don’t!’

And the OP think the far left are aggressive.

Avoiding someone is not an act of agression. Chasing someone because you don't think they should be allowed to avoid you is.

Very occasionally, it is a justified act of aggression. Far more often, it's simply entitled arrogance.

Calling someone a fuckwit is pretty aggressive in my book.

To their face, yes. That is not what the post you replied to said.

No, that poster seems to be struggling with reading tonight.

I'm still waiting for them to show me where I described the far left uniform. Or maybe even apologise if they've got it wrong, although I won't be holding my breath for that.

hididdlyho · 22/03/2025 19:46

I'd have asked them if they enjoy stalking women

Longsummerdays25 · 22/03/2025 19:59

It’s a cult. Brainwashed and quite unable to see any other point of view. It’s the holier than thou, high handed but failing so miserably to understand the basic principles of respect, democracy and free speech/fair treatment.

Some genuinely believe they are superior, and this presents as a smug superiority that is rooted in substantial intellectual insecurity, and the virtue signalling and lecturing is trotted out without much consideration of the difference around them because they feel they are indeed ‘better’.

The uniform is easy to spot, and the undercurrent of militancy is never too far away. It’s very off putting.

skintasabint · 23/03/2025 16:35

@JessicaPeachyes I think it might have been them.

I was just shattered yesterday and very stressed. I feel a bit daft now lol

@Bluebellwood129yes I have seen she plans to close the hotel, but from what I have read she plans to still house the people in the area. No idea where though, they have no spare housing

@LoveSandbanksWhat he did to that poor man was a disgrace, I mean before all that he wasn’t too bad. He was pretty helpful

If it’s the seat I think it is then reform are nailed on to win if they are fielding a candidate because of the numerous ongoing issues with migrants in the area.

I work in this area and hear the issues regularly from colleagues who live in the area and service users, and also have seen it with my own eyes.

Just wanted to repost as point proven sadly

WatermelonLolly · 02/05/2025 08:11

And still labour has its fingers in its ears going la la la, nothing learned from the Brexit vote and the reasons for that.

Crossing the road and thinking something is more aggressive than 2 young men following a woman, intimidating her and not leaving her alone when she asks, twice? Interesting. Women and their thoughts, huh?

sesquipedalian · 02/05/2025 08:43

OP, no canvasser from any party has a right to behave like that, or to intimidate voters. Quite apart from anything else, it’s utterly counter-productive! You were absolutely not unreasonable.

EasternStandard · 02/05/2025 09:03

It didn’t help them in the end. Maybe all these aggressive, snarky Labour lot are turning off voters more than gaining them.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 02/05/2025 09:05

Reform are racist. They shouldn’t have followed you though. If this is a genuine thread and not underhand electioneering.

This is something I think much of the left gets really wrong so often. I am left leaning, but I also see this moral superiority and complacent assumption of being in the right, and it’s so off-putting, and ultimately alienates people. It’s akin to the missionaries of the 19th century, spreading truth and goodness to the savages. And unfortunately there can be a lack of respect for alternative values and voices.

I remember seeing a post by Owen Jones (loathsome) on Twitter a few years back that was telling. In response to a breaking story he was asking his followers “What’s the correct take on this?”

Correct take, singular. What’s going to be the approved line that everyone has to fall into step with? Quite chilling really.

(I know OJ isn’t representative of the entire left – he certainly doesn’t represent me – however I think you do see this sort of orthodoxy of thought and insistence on conformity a lot).

Like with immigration: Yes, some people who oppose immigration are racist, however it doesn’t mean that other people don’t also have legitimate concerns or different values to you which are valid and worthy of respect and consideration. Not everyone with a different view is a bigot who needs re-educating.

It’s hardly unique to the left – there can (quite evidently) be a disparaging lack of respect for other political views from the right too.

It’s just so arrogant and self-defeating, I wish there was more willingness to engage and listen. No-one is won round by being hectored.

ODFOD. Try telling the residents in my county they are racist. YOU are the reason why my county sees its first Reform Mayor. You and the other lefties would be laughed at. You talk about Reform having no nuance yet all I ever see is the label racist being lazily thrown about. It is NOT racist to expect to be proud of your country and welcome anybody who WANTS to integrate.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 02/05/2025 10:02

Good luck with your major @Dangermoo . You know they do fuck all, just like their other colleagues, so you’ll have even more to moan about.

On the contrary, Richard was most accommodating with a recent issue I had. It's great having an MP who has solutions instead of soundbites. Labour could learn a lesson or two.
