To ask if anyone gets daily electric shocks

I know this isn’t really an AIBU but I’m fed up of having electric shocks.

The last two weeks I seem to be getting a lot of electric shocks. Every time I open the car door I get one without fail, I’m starting to cover my hand before I touch it as I’m scared of the shock now.

Anyone else get this? I’ve had the car since August last year (it was a used 2012 plate) and never had a shock from it up until the last couple of weeks where it’s constant. Went shopping today and everything i touched gave me such a zap too. 😩

doesn’t seem to happen in the house at all, just when shopping and getting in and out of the car for the last fortnight.

Yes, it’s dependent on the shoes that I’m wearing and sometimes the weather!

JaneJeffer · 19/03/2025 22:00

Yes I’m full of static. It’s awful.

ThePoshUns · 19/03/2025 22:01

Yes as pp said it seems to correlate to certain shoes.

noblegiraffe · 19/03/2025 22:01

Yes. I always touch the car with my elbow first rather than my hand as the shock isn't so bad there!

Darkclothes · 19/03/2025 22:01

I thought it was more common depending on the shoe sole and wearing polyester/acrylic type, synthetic clothing.

malmi · 19/03/2025 22:01

Best way if you’re expecting one is to slap your palm onto the metal surface so the static can discharge without giving you a shock

AquaPeer · 19/03/2025 22:02

Yep- it’s my clothes for me

Devianinc · 19/03/2025 22:03

Depends on how dry out it is. I always feel bad shocking my grandchildren when I touch. And it hurts

UnNiddeRides · 19/03/2025 22:04

I always get this in the spring. At the same time my hair gets really static.

Wincher · 19/03/2025 22:05

Yes! Most often in the office (think it might be my winter boots I normally wear for work) but quite often at home too. The tap, the water from the tap, door handles etc etc…

MrsClatterbuck · 19/03/2025 22:05

Yes though not with the car though that used to happen. It happens when I press the button for a lift and I used to get shocked when touching the edge of the shelves in Mark's but not anymore though it has been refurbished.

Hohofortherobbers · 19/03/2025 22:07

I have a very staticcy jacket, if I wear it I get multiple shocks

MiniPumpkin · 19/03/2025 22:09

I have high iron levels often. I like to think I’m electric and that’s what gives me zaps 🤣 I’m sure there is zero evidence of this, it’s probably shoes or certain clothing

Vladandnikki · 19/03/2025 22:10

I never used to, but recently all the time. The hoover, the sofa, my youngest although only my youngest. Got zapped by a kid at work the other day 🤦‍♀️ no new shoes or fabrics or electronics in the house or at work. Baffled

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 19/03/2025 22:10

What shoes are you wearing?

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 19/03/2025 22:11

Yes. Very recently when I get out the car. 🚙

Kardamyli2 · 19/03/2025 22:12

Yes, mine are much worse if I wear synthetic clothing too.

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 19/03/2025 22:14

Yep, I've always been like it. No idea why.

cuttinganotheronion · 19/03/2025 22:18

I always thought it was my hair (long and straight) but now i‘m going to check my shoes. No one else in my family get them. Just me

Candleabra · 19/03/2025 22:20

I have a cardigan I love but it must be very synthetic as i always get shocks when I’m wearing it.

DrCoconut · 19/03/2025 22:23

Yes, it's started back up in the last few days

Delphiniumandlupins · 19/03/2025 22:29

I used to get electric shocks a lot in one office I worked in - a combination of my footwear, the carpet and the metal strips around the doors.

caringcarer · 19/03/2025 22:30

I get a shock from the cat sometimes. She brushes up against me and when I go to stroke her I get a shock.

PersonalBest · 19/03/2025 22:38

Not every day but more often than my DH for sure

MuggleMe · 19/03/2025 22:46

Got some new slippers (fake ugh type with rubber sole) and I'm constantly getting them downstairs.
