Having this cold snap in March is really miserable and sucks

It's lovely weather here right now. The mornings are crisp and a bit frosty, but beautiful, then later in the day it warms up quickly in the sunshine.

Did you forget to proof read your title before posting? Or do you mean old?

cadooyahoo · 16/03/2025 14:33

isn't this typical for March?

phonecompaniesstink · 16/03/2025 14:34

Try having had a broken boiler for the last 8 days 😫. Thank goodness for our heated throw.

I thought March was a few degrees warmer

It's not been bad here, South West Scotland. Typical March weather and definitely warmer than last month with alot less rain so far. It was 16 degrees last Saturday. Today's 11.

GrandHighPoohbah · 16/03/2025 14:40

I think it's easy to fall into the expectation that March is spring and therefore should be warmer. It never is, think of it more as the tail end of winter blowing through. I never put my jumpers and winter coat away until Easter, which I have learnt from bitter experience.

No we used to have BBQs in March and I was definitely out of my big coat by now

Cheersmedears123 · 16/03/2025 14:45

March is always a mixed bag. It could snow or be a heatwave! I think it’s been rather lovely - chilly but nice and sunny.

MissyB1 · 16/03/2025 14:48

At least it's dry at the moment, but yes it's blummin freezing! But I can cope with virtually anything except rain. Set to warm up later in the week though.

That’s encouraging!!

when was this.

cadooyahoo · 16/03/2025 14:52

I have never been to a bbq in March!

Lookingforwardto2025 · 16/03/2025 14:54

I think this March has been lovely. Usually the first half of March is still very wintery and some years there is snow. The second half is usually nicer but still coat weather.

The first half of this March where I am has definitely been nicer than usual.

Huckyfell · 16/03/2025 14:57

Never cast a clout until May is out! March is beautiful, frosty, cold, warming up a bit. The most amazing time of year 😍

Moier · 16/03/2025 14:58

I'm away in the Canaries .. been coming for a week out of every month scince October.. Best medicine there is for brutal pain.
I'm laid on lounger on our patio and it's 24 degrees.
Will come until May then change it around a bit to the Greek islands and Cyprus.. then back here in October.

Dappy777 · 16/03/2025 15:07

It’s actually been quite a nice March here - plenty of sunshine and very little rain. Last year was horrendous. I don’t ever remember such a gloomy and overcast Spring.

Unfortunately, my local fields are about to be covered in new houses, so this will be my last spring walking the dog over there. They’ve also hacked down my local woods to make room for rows of disgusting rabbit hutch ‘houses’. It’s so depressing I could cry.

Bluevelvetsofa · 16/03/2025 15:21

My son was born in late March. I remember looking out of the window at the snowflakes falling.
The Beast from the East a few years ago, was in March.

CagneyNYPD1 · 16/03/2025 15:38

Easter 2008 we had snow in London. I remember it vividly as ds was just a few weeks old. March can be very variable. It is indeed a bit colder than normal but bright and sunny in the SE.

Dragonfly97 · 16/03/2025 15:43

Two years ago we had snow at this time in March; I'd say it's hit & miss. I'm happy it's been dry & bright with crisp mornings, and no rain! I won't expect much warmth before Easter, which is late this year. We've had cold weather in April as well.

My understanding is the quote refers to may blossom eg hawthorn.

tobee · 16/03/2025 16:19

My birthday is early March and the weather has always been up & down. Warm sunshine "whey hey, summer's nearly here!" And other times snow.

The daytime to nighttime temperature change is often steep.

Isn't next week supposed to be warm?

@AlwaysGardening is correct, it is the May blossom. March (the month) comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. But that's not always true of course! 🦁➡️🐑

Think snow is statistically more likely in March than December! Agree that there is a false belief that March is/should be warm. Sometimes a flash of warmer sunshine but for the most part still very much wintery vibe. Not long til it warms up proper though and a nice week ahead in the south!

GrandHighPoohbah · 16/03/2025 16:33

I think we can be fooled by the lighter evenings. It's such a positive vibe to still be light at 6pm - I definitely get ahead of myself!
