Running out of petrol

So after a discussion with Oh yesterday can I ask how many times you have ever run out of petrol and how many years you have been driving.

Person A run out once in 25 years of driving.

Person B run out 4 times in 30 years of driving.

Person A thinks B is irresponsible and most people have never run out. Person B thinks 4 times in 30 years is not much.

34 years and never - though been on red numerous times even though it was drilled into me that getting down to the sludge was bad for the car. Try to always top up once at 1/4 of a tank.

I don’t understand how people these days can run out of petrol when there’s a series of irritating dashboard reminders - from a yellow light and a ding, to a big yellow petrol pump light, to constant dings when you’re really low. Have never run out but have been known to turn into a petrol station with the dings getting ever faster !!

50+ years and never run out

30 years and technically never, though I did once park on a hill and all the petrol drained to the other end of the tank from the sensor, so I still had to call the AA!

Did it have a steering wheel?!

Never run out, but during the petrol shortage in 2021 I came very close with 18 miles left. I did have 50 miles before I had to go and look for some ( got up at 4am to go and join a stupid queue, absolute wankers who started that).

30+ years, never.

Over 40 years.

Never.

43 years and never run out of petrol - unless you count the time my fuel pump broke on my mini and all my fuel poured out on the road!

34 years and never.

40 years and never run out.

47 years driving and I've run out of petrol once, when I was 17, because the fuel gauge in my clapped-out 1966 Mini broke. It said I had nearly half a tank left when it was empty. Fortunately it broke down within sight of a petrol station and a nice man helped me push it there (and then expected me to go for a drink with him to say thank you).

Once in dodgy first car who petrol gauge wasn’t accurate. Never since and been driving 31 years now

Never ran out but that's because when the red light comes in it sends me into a panic and I go to the nearest station 🤣

Once about 5 years ago. It wasn’t by accident though, I knew I was temping fate but it was the day before payday and my child had an afterschool club .

luckily we were more than half way home , and I managed to pull into the side of the road and we walked home , much to the kids disgust.

hubby went back for it the next day

13 years driving - never ran out.

Luckily there’s a petrol station at the end of my street so it’s always easy to top-up.

28 years and never

24 years, never run out. My dad (probably worried that I would get stranded somewhere and thought I was irresponsible) drummed it into me to always fill up as soon as I got to a quarter of a tank....... and I always have! He also cable tied my hubcaps on 🫣

Twice in 45 years. None in the last 35.

50 years of driving and never run out.

However, I did fill up once, in my very early days of driving, and didn't replace the cap on the petrol tank, this was in the days before they were attached, and I'd left it on the roof of the car while I filled up.

Quite a bit of petrol sloshed out of the tank on the rather long journey home and I had to track down a replacement cap; very annoying.

30 years once when I was a single parent and too skint so was trying to get home on fumes until payday (pre tax credits and a nightmare life) and the second was a very near miss when we got lost on an island and drove miles and miles and then got close to empty.

Almost 30 years and never run out.

Never. I always fill up when it's down to a quarter full - we're rural and you'd be buggered if you ran out of fuel on some of the roads here. It's just not worth the risk.

38 years. Also never ran out been close only once due to being caught up in accident
