How to get phone without dh

PandoraBox2 · 03/03/2025 06:02

Dh is being very difficult. My sky phone contract is under his name as sky contract is under his name, I pay for my mobile and the credit report etc. Is under my name. He had to speak to them regarding my upgrade a d ordered a new one. Problem is he still hasn't cha ged his address after 10 years of marriage and it got delivered to his parents home who are not living in UK currently but still own the house. It went to dpd depot and then got returned. I pleaded with him to contact sky as they won't talk to me and he ordered a new one. Again its going to his parents home due to be delivered today. I'm working and parents address is no where near us. I've asked him for tracking I'd but he keeps swearing at me. I'm so lost on what to do. Totally lost without my phone. I'm probably misding kids related communication from school etc. I'm so upset. Can someone help me think clearly on what to do. Money is tight so don't want to buy a new phone when I have one ready to come to me

I think the phone is the least of your worries.
You have a H problem!

PandoraBox2 · 03/03/2025 06:11

Why did he get it delivered to his parents again?

You need to take out a phone contract in your name and order a phone. It can be here in a couple days. Tell him to cancel that one (you usually get 14 days to cancel)

parietal · 03/03/2025 06:17

If this phone goes missing, can you take out a new contract with a new phonei and new number under your name only. Then just tell school and friends your new number.

It will be useful to have your own phone in case you want to leave him or do stuff that he can't monitor.

Is he controlling or difficult in other ways?

TheSandgroper · 03/03/2025 06:22

Walk down to the nearest shop and buy a cheap phone and a pay as you go SIM card.

log into your emails etc.

As long as you are home, your old phone should be connected to your wifi so the info in it should be available.

You will need this new phone and number for when you are dealing with your dh problem.

LovelyLeitrim · 03/03/2025 06:26

As others have said, go and buy a phone and/or get a new contract.

Long term, get rid of your DH.

Ensure you unravel any joint contracts and things like this and move away from him.

He is not being rational.

storminabuttercup · 03/03/2025 06:26

If the phone is in his name I'm pretty sure the credit check is in his name too I'd be surprised if they did it against you I don't think it works like that. You would fail a credit check at his parents house. So cancel the direct debit and set up a new contract with someone else, you will prob not be able to port over the number assuming I'm right and it's in his name but you'll get a phone and can update school etc

Then get rid of this control freak, you don't have to put up with this xx

Balloonney · 03/03/2025 06:28

If they won't talk to you it means it's solely in his name, and they wouldn't have been able to do a credit check on you. If you're paying anyway can you afford to get one yourself? Even a cheap one for now and a giffgaff pay as you go sim (they have good deals for not much a month)?

myplace · 03/03/2025 06:35

Ask friends if they have an old one you can have. People often do.

Get an ID mobile sim- it's about £7 a month for unlimited data, minutes etc.

Are you able to pay for things like that?

If the situation is as bad as it seems at a glance, then a friend might do it for you. I would do that for a friend. But you need to seek help, too.

Hopefully this is the only thing and just an unlucky confluence of events.

Confide in family or friends.
Tell them your H is being an abusive twunt and you need financial help.
Contact womens aid and tell them you are being abused.
Start making your exit plan.
Don't have any more children!

LasagneLasagne · 03/03/2025 06:42

As others have said, the phone problem is easily fixed. Then you can address the more pressing problem that is your husband. He sounds like an abusive arse.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 03/03/2025 06:45

Isn't Sky attached to your home address to provide your TV or does he pay for his parents sky? Either way get him to cancel it and get a cheap sim and phone or new contract in your own name or let him sort it out and STILL get a new phone and SIM in your name.

KIlliePieMyOhMy · 03/03/2025 06:50

Can you get a man to phone sky and pretend to be DH?

AlexandrinaH · 03/03/2025 06:50

Where’s your old phone? Usually you still keep the old one and continue to use it until the new one arrives.

If you’re paying for the phone anyway, just go and take out a contract in your own name. He can cancel the other one.

JustMyView13 · 03/03/2025 06:53

Let the phone be delivered to his parents house and get it returned again like before.
Go into town, get the phone you want on a contract with another provider. Or, if it’s an iPhone you can buy the phone directly with Apple - in your own name - and then take out a sim only deal.
It sounds like you don’t have the old phone working so won’t be keeping the number. But if you do, you just need a PAC code from sky which you can get by texting a number on a device with your old SIM card in.

Without knowing what other ways your DH is controlling, it’s hard to say how you should further approach this with him. But this isn’t a situation which arises in a healthy and loving marriage.

TwinklyTornadoBear · 03/03/2025 06:53

I’m confused - if this is an upgrade then why can’t you just keep using your old phone?

Also if money is tight then you may have been better off keeping your phone and moving to a sim only tariff. There’s no such thing as a truly free upgrade, you’ll just be paying for it month by month.

On the bigger issue is your DH just being careless and half arsed in resolving this or deliberately obstructive to you getting a new phone?

BobnLen · 03/03/2025 06:55

This is the problem with Sky, I was going to get my sim only contract through them as it included free data if watching Sky tv and was a bit cheaper but realised that I would not be able to do anything with my contract myself as Sky is in DH's name so I stayed with Tesco, no problem with DH but it would be inconvenient and it's my phone.

He needs to cancel it and set you free to get your own contract

jeaux90 · 03/03/2025 06:56

Get a PAYG SIM and put it in your old phone when the other one comes.

You know you have bigger problems with him than this though so when you are ready come back for advice on how to finish it. He sounds controlling.

Velvian · 03/03/2025 06:57

Is your current phone working OK? Forget about the upgrade, tell your DH you will be setting up your own contract so he needs to cancel the one in his name as you will stop paying for it on X date.

You can keep the same number.

BobnLen · 03/03/2025 07:03

You don't have to have an upgrade anyway if your phone is working just pay for a mobile sim for your old phone with a different company. A phone upgrade is just a way of companys making money by telling you you need a new phone

BobnLen · 03/03/2025 07:08

No wonder money is tight if people are getting new phone upgrades every year or two, a phone should last at least about 4 years.

MyDeftDuck · 03/03/2025 07:12

Get yourself down to a Tesco superstore and set up your own phone contract.......easy!!

PandoraBox2 · 03/03/2025 07:19

My old phone stopped working completely. I was just data only plan as I didn't upgrade till I needed new phone.

Cross post, you've answered about the phone

Are you using a tablet or laptop now, can you get the school communicationa on that?

FlawedStars · 03/03/2025 07:20

Download dpd app. Redirect it to the local shop that accepts dpd parcels. Take I'd and collect from shop.
