How to get phone without dh

PandoraBox2 · 03/03/2025 06:02

Dh is being very difficult. My sky phone contract is under his name as sky contract is under his name, I pay for my mobile and the credit report etc. Is under my name. He had to speak to them regarding my upgrade a d ordered a new one. Problem is he still hasn't cha ged his address after 10 years of marriage and it got delivered to his parents home who are not living in UK currently but still own the house. It went to dpd depot and then got returned. I pleaded with him to contact sky as they won't talk to me and he ordered a new one. Again its going to his parents home due to be delivered today. I'm working and parents address is no where near us. I've asked him for tracking I'd but he keeps swearing at me. I'm so lost on what to do. Totally lost without my phone. I'm probably misding kids related communication from school etc. I'm so upset. Can someone help me think clearly on what to do. Money is tight so don't want to buy a new phone when I have one ready to come to me

Can you get a man to phone sky and pretend to be DH?

as long as you know his security details, you can phone sky. You don't need a man to do it.

Roseshavethorns · 03/03/2025 07:22

Does sky have a live chat function? If so log on, cancel the phone and ask for the code to retain your number. (Pretending to be your husband)
Order a new phone or go to Tesco and take out a new contract.
Keep using your old phone until you can set up the new phone.
Get your DH to call sky and email them to give you permission to deal with the account.
If other utilities are in your DH name make sure they have recorded that you have permission to deal with the account.

Londonrach1 · 03/03/2025 07:23

I pay £6 a month and have all the minutes I need and want..just get a cheap phone..you can get them for £10 and go into any phone shop or get pay as you go.

My old phone stopped working completely. I was just data only plan as I didn't upgrade till I needed new phone.

So you need a new phone anyway, your DH needs to cancel the one he has ordered, he will have at least 14 days to do this. You need to get a new phone contract or buy a new phone outright with another company or you will be stuck with Sky for another two years and not be able to deal with anything, I nearly got caught by this.

ThighsYouCantControl · 03/03/2025 07:25

Write off the phone. Money is tight but a phone is essential and you need one that isn’t connected to your husband. Go to a phone shop and get it sorted today.

Elisheva · 03/03/2025 07:29

Does your old phone have a SIM card? Because that can be moved into any phone. Places like CEX sell second hand phones.

BobnLen · 03/03/2025 07:30

If you want O2 which Sky is I would recommend Tesco or GiffGaff

Tiswa · 03/03/2025 07:30

You need a password but then you can or he can give permission but password easier (sky is under my name but DH likes to ring to get them to bring down the cost)

you can also go sim only with them and get a phone another way

or frankly change yiur address on it (or husband)

Isthiswhatmenthink · 03/03/2025 07:32

Is he abusive? Is he deliberately getting it delivered far away over and again because he’s getting a sick enjoyment from your absolute anguish?

PoltergeistsStartLowKey · 03/03/2025 07:45

LTB.

Doggymummar · 03/03/2025 07:48

He sounds a bit dim, but just go buy a payg and set it up. I personally don't bother with a phone but I know I am very much in the minority. I have a desktop computer I use for work. And a galaxy tablet I use for personal stuff.

LillyPJ · 03/03/2025 07:52

jeaux90 · 03/03/2025 06:56

Get a PAYG SIM and put it in your old phone when the other one comes.

You know you have bigger problems with him than this though so when you are ready come back for advice on how to finish it. He sounds controlling.

There are several 1 month rolling contracts with unlimited minutes and texts plus 5Gb of data per month which probably work out a lot cheaper than PAYG. Lebara have one starting at £1 per month for 7 months then going up to £5 ish per month if you go via moneysavingexpert.com.

This is what I think. And the only way to make that stop is taking control and sorting it out with no involvement from him. The OP could get her hands on the phone today, set it up and her husband as the official owner (contract is in his name) can put a block on the phone and make it worthless to his wife.

Ophy83 · 03/03/2025 07:56

Go to your nearest o2 or apple store and get a phone. Tell your dh you couldn't rely on him anymore and to cancel the other phone

TeaAndStrumpets · 03/03/2025 08:00

He keeps swearing at you? How lovely he sounds. Lots of good advice on here. Get yourself a phone of your own. You may need one.

isthismylifenow · 03/03/2025 08:10

He is doing this as he is abusive as most likely gets some sick kick from seeing you in distress. And he has a hold over you with the phone contract.

You are going to have to take control of this situation OP. Go and buy a cheapo and a payg and let the important people know your new number. I know you don't want to spend extra, but do you actually have this new phone on its way to you? It doesn't sound like it is if its going to be sent back again.

Stop paying that contract. It it is in his name, then he will have to face the consequences of that.

AmIEnough · 03/03/2025 08:13

PandoraBox2 · 03/03/2025 06:11

I knew I would get comments like this! Yes I'm aware but what do i do in regards fir my phone a d being able to communicate with people?

You but another contract elsewhere. Your DH is ridiculous!

SofaSpuds · 03/03/2025 08:20

It is usually pretty easy to change delivery address for DPD. So get DH to do that first thing.....
Then consider your options re staying with someone who treats you like this.

SalfordQuays · 03/03/2025 08:28

Take his phone, and tell him you won’t return it till he redirects your new one. But really this is no way to live OP. Letting someone have so much control over you, when they are clearly nasty, is going to make you more and more unhappy as the years go by.

rainbowstardrops · 03/03/2025 08:31

Why on earth did the idiot get the second phone sent to his parent's house again? Is he usually controlling?
If you can, go and buy a cheap phone for now, or ask friends if anyone has a spare.

Hankunamatata · 03/03/2025 08:33

Do you have the money to buy a new smart phone? You can get a cheap one from likes of argos or currys to carry you over

Autumn1990 · 03/03/2025 08:33

If you need a phone urgently you can ask friends if anyone has an old one you can have and go to a convenience shop that sells data only sims. It’s usually a rolling monthly contract and you can set it up in as little as 10 mins

Or buy a second hand phone and get a data only sim

Or go into a phone shop and sign up for a deal

It is a longer process transferring the phone number if you’re not the bill payer

Ive recently set up a second phone. Took about 30mins (because my mother hadn’t wiped it) and I used a data only sim bought online arrived 2 days after I purchased it

Slobberchops1 · 03/03/2025 08:33

Cancel the sky phone direct debit - your husband can sort the payment out and order a new one- giff gaff are quite good

PandoraBox2 · 03/03/2025 06:11

You need to cancel whatever is in your name and get your own contract.

That's you immediate problem sorted. Then you need to work out what to do with H

Ollybob · 03/03/2025 08:37

You can get a phone easily, cex would be your best bet as you'll get a decent phone for your money (although android would be much cheaper)
However for the communication surely you can use whatever device you are using Mumsnet on? WhatsApp works on a computer as well as mobile for a start.
