How to get phone without dh

PandoraBox2 · 03/03/2025 06:02

Dh is being very difficult. My sky phone contract is under his name as sky contract is under his name, I pay for my mobile and the credit report etc. Is under my name. He had to speak to them regarding my upgrade a d ordered a new one. Problem is he still hasn't cha ged his address after 10 years of marriage and it got delivered to his parents home who are not living in UK currently but still own the house. It went to dpd depot and then got returned. I pleaded with him to contact sky as they won't talk to me and he ordered a new one. Again its going to his parents home due to be delivered today. I'm working and parents address is no where near us. I've asked him for tracking I'd but he keeps swearing at me. I'm so lost on what to do. Totally lost without my phone. I'm probably misding kids related communication from school etc. I'm so upset. Can someone help me think clearly on what to do. Money is tight so don't want to buy a new phone when I have one ready to come to me

Go and get a new sim you can keep your number I'm currently with Tesco sim only for 15 a month. You don't need him you think you do but you really don't, he is being deliberately obtuse to cause you distress. Get your sim and ignore him.

ShortColdandGrey · 03/03/2025 10:15

I just noticed that he won't give you tracking info. I was going to suggest that you get it delivered to the local post office.

It’s simple you go to a shop, O2, vodaphone, phone warehouse, John Lewis etc and buy one, enter into a contract with them

Msmoonpie · 03/03/2025 10:17

Go to a shop and buy a cheap one and a pay as you go sim.

I don't think you do. It doesn't sound like he's got any intention of changing his address or facilitating you to get the phone, and it's in his name, so the contract must also be in his name - and that means legally you do not own it and have no rights to it. Given his behaviour towards you, I'd consider a phone of your own an essential right now.

If it's not financially possible to get a contract in your name, or get a cheap handset, have you got anyone you could ask if they've got a spare phone? Loads of people keep their older handsets and would happily lend them out. Or an Anon post on your local Facebook group, if you've got one?

Ah I read your phone isn't working you will get a reasonable phone and payg or contract sim until he decides to sort out his issues with sky.

IroningThrone · 03/03/2025 10:23

You're being a bit wet @PandoraBox2 did you really not think to search phone contracts?

https://www.tescomobile.com/shop/motorola/moto-e14 job done.

After that, contact Woman's Sid to help you sort out your husband problem.

BobnLen · 03/03/2025 10:31

You need to cancel your DD, then you can use that money towards the new contract, Sky will just chase your DH for payment as it is his account so he will have to set up his own DD from his bank

My abusive ex had me in exactly the same position, took out a 'joint' account with a mobile phone for each of us and arranged for an itemised bill for both numbers to be delivered, addressed to him, every month, I remember thinking how generous at the time, then every month I would get a verbal interrogation on virtually every number I had called which he didn't recognise, after a year of this batshittery I told him what he could do with his phone, went along to my local Carphone Warehouse and sorted myself out with my own phone and contract. This is 2025 not 1925, you don't have to be beholden to him for anything, sort your own phone out, it can be as cheap and quick as you like.

That you so much everyone I'm sorry I haven't but replied only just had a chance to log in. I called sky pretending to be my husband! They believed me which I don't know how I feel about lol! They couldn't change address as already dispatched so I contacted DPD who thankfully changed delivery date to my day off. Hopefully will be sorted. Thank you so much and I will log back in to read the rest of the messages.

get a phone in your own name? And stop paying for the sky one, he'll cancel it.
If you use WhatsApp you can give a "changed number" notice to all your contacts.

ThePuppyHasZoomiesAgain · 05/03/2025 17:22

I pretend to be my husband once on the phone. The man on the phone asked me if I was sure I was 'husband's name' and I said yes. The man believed me or in this day and age are they probably aren't allowed to assume someone's gender by the tone of their voice!

If the phone is returned to sky. Take the phone contract out in your name. You still use your current sim in it. Or call them ask for a pac code and it will let you keep your number on the new sim if you want to have it all together.

If your sim is the only one on the account text pac to 65075. They will text you the pac code.

The pac is like a key that unlocks your phone number and is valid for 41 days
