I got beef and mushrooms and egg fried rice on Wednesday. It'll be OK if I heat it thoroughly tonight won't it?

I would! I would just make sure it had been well microwave blasted

Ezlo · 28/02/2025 23:01

I did it! I cooked the rice thoroughly and added butter...yum! It was lovely and now I am so full I refuse to move.

Leftover rice most certainly is not.

Of course it is. I’ve been reheating rice my whole life and never been ill from it.

Forthelovagod · 28/02/2025 23:08

I would for sure

caringcarer · 28/02/2025 23:11

Never reheat rice.

Never reheat rice.

Takeaway rice or all rice? E.g. you cook a chicken curry at home and have left overs?

tallhotpinkflamingo · 28/02/2025 23:16

Only white people say "don't reheat rice."

Same

Hurrah, you lived @Ezlo!

Teenagerantruns · 28/02/2025 23:25

As a cheft yep it's fine, 3 days is how long we keep food and reheat.

Createausername1970 · 28/02/2025 23:26

I am late to the thread. Glad you ate it and enjoyed it.

As long as the takeaway went into the fridge within a hour or so of being delivered, then I would have no qualms reheating it two days later if it looked and smelt OK.

I personally would have nuked it on medium high heat for a longer time, rather than high power, and I would have added a big nob (knob?) of butter too (garlic butter if I have it).

As long as it is thoroughly reheated and piping hot, I would be happy to eat it.

sunshineandshowers40 · 28/02/2025 23:27

The next I would but not after two days- although it would upset to throw it away!

TeenagersAngst · 28/02/2025 23:32

Christ, what an bizarre thread. You're all a living, breathing Graham Norton sketch. Eat the bloody rice.

Endofyear · 28/02/2025 23:43

I would definitely eat it - just heat it thoroughly until it's piping hot! I've always eaten leftover Chinese, even 2/3 days old and I've never been ill from it.

Youremylobster86 · 28/02/2025 23:44

Definitely

SteggySawUs · 28/02/2025 23:58

Absolutely nuke it in the microwave. And ENJOY!🤩

God, I reheat two day old take away without even thinking about it! Agree with the pp who said this thread reminds them of the Phil Wang clip where he says about British people being terrified to reheat rice!

Cos food poisoning from incorrectly reheating rice, is fucking terrible.

I either reheat thoroughly, or eat cold.

Glitterybee · 01/03/2025 00:06

justusandthecat · 28/02/2025 19:57

I would but I eat raw sausages so my idea of safe to eat is pretty lax.

I have a family member who eats raw sausages. I’ve never heard of anyone else doing it

Good to hear they’re not the only one 🤣

Jadebanditchillipepper · 01/03/2025 00:18

As a hospital doctor who sees the effect of eating reheated chinese, I never eat reheated rice. The food poisoning you can get from rice is toxin mediated, so nuking it in the microwave won't work.

Granted, lots of people do it and get away with it, but if you do end up with food poisoning, it is absolutely grim and not worth the risk imo.

saveforthat · 01/03/2025 00:24

We do this all the time because we order too much food. I don't fancy it the next day but the day after I'm back in the mood again.

KnickerlessParsons · 01/03/2025 00:24

I'd eat it.

MidnightMeltdown · 01/03/2025 00:43

I do this all the time. I rarely eat a takeaway in one sitting. The portions are huge. I don't think there's anything that I wouldn't reheat and I've never had food poisoning in my life!

It's absolutely fine to reheat rice. I've done it at least twice a week for the past 20 years and have never once had food poisoning even once!

If people are getting ill then there must be more too it (i.e. someone leaving it out of the fridge for a week and then deciding to eat it).

I agree!
I always heat til it's piping hot though. Kills all germs!!

gatheryerosebuds · 01/03/2025 00:57

It's really funny with this rice phobia and yet people let their cats sit on worksurfaces (with potentially dirty bottoms) and let dogs lick their faces, both far more a source of dodgy tummy than piping hot rice!
