To despise the word 'comfy'?

citylightsbehind · 27/02/2025 17:06

Urggggggh. I don't know why, but I hate it.

I personally will abide a bit of discomfort for aesthetic reasons, but would never look askance at those who choose comfort over fashion.

I just have a, possibly unreasonable, hatred of the word.

Don’t forget “comfies” for loungewear and “smellies” for… ?? Scented products I guess?

Tummy and tum are horrid.

Brekkie is possibly worse.

Brolly instead of umbrella is utterly daft. Hate that one. 😂

Bitteralmond · 27/02/2025 18:58

I hate:
veggies
brolly
hanky
hubby

Even typing them makes me feel slightly unwell and tight round the head!

I see your comfy and I raise you "tummy". Especially when uttered by health professionals 🙄

”Comfy” I can cope with. “Tummy” gives me the rage as much as the phrase “gives me the rage”…

God, yes!

Pottedpalm · 27/02/2025 19:03

Choc, as in Hot Choc or Box of Chocs. Yuk.
Also ‘Uni’. Yooni grates on me.

LillyPJ · 27/02/2025 19:05

Comfy, hubby and veggie - all horrible words. I also despise 'mayo' for mayonnaise and 'roasties' for roast potatoes. Not keen on 'pud' instead of 'pudding' either. As you might guess, I struggle to read Jamie Oliver cookbooks!

countrygirl99 · 27/02/2025 19:06

Comfy is ok but cosy has me running. My parents used to like a "cosy" living room which was over furnished, over heated and in semi darkness.

ClippyMuldoon · 27/02/2025 19:11

Oh thank god for this, I thought it was just me being a grumpy old fart.
I agree with all of these and would like to add 'spenny'. As in 'those jammies are a bit spenny but u r worth it hun' 😱

Also in the list of ( real) words that should be banned for adults - horrid. It is possibly the most twee prissy sounding word I can think of. Sorry previous poster.

TulipCat · 27/02/2025 19:14

If someone uttered the sentence "Comfy in my jimjams with a toasty cup of hot choc" I would have to stab them with a fork.

friskybivalves · 27/02/2025 19:15

All the above plus 'spends' for spending money.

'Jammies'! 😫

MaxandMeg · 27/02/2025 19:19

All of these and poorly.

citylightsbehind · 27/02/2025 19:27

Oooh @Pottedpalm and @ClippyMuldoon

Choc and spenny!! I might have to lie down (somewhere comfy and, just for @countrygirl99, cosy) 😂

I read your message and it is not a word which grates with me. However, I detest it when people write "I personally" or "Personally, I"!! I see it so much. Doesn't anyone understand tautology?

Maybe you should start a thread about it?

I don't think anyone has mentioned "mani" or "pedi" yet 🤮

"Mum pooch" or "mum pouch" for a postpartum lower abdomen 🤮. Actually, the word "pouch" generally is a bit grim.

"Fluffy", particularly when used to describe food. No, I do not want my scrambled eggs to have the consistency of a cotton wool ball 🤮

Cuppa! That drives me mad. I could never bring myself to say it or write it, and I feel queasy just reading it.

nancyastor · 27/02/2025 20:10

I am irrationally irritated by the word "goodies." 😬

Ballygowenwater · 27/02/2025 21:32

Comfy is one thing, but Jesus Christ I absolutely hate uncomfy.
