Just bought daffodils at £1 a (small!) bunch. My favourite (non chocolate) cheapish treat.

Beautiful 😍

Unredchat · 21/02/2025 07:51

I looked for some yesterday but not out yet in my local supermarket. Yes, they are the best treat! I have a lovely yellow vase especially for them. Will hunt some down today!

OffMyDahlias · 21/02/2025 07:53

Every year I buy tonnes of them. I’d just bought 2 bunches when I noticed the local coop had them for 35p reduced so I bought 3 so now have loads of them all over the house🥰

BaublesAndGlitter · 21/02/2025 07:53

I love a bunch of daffs. DH tends to pick one up every week or so with the food shop.

For the last few years I've also treated myself to a few bulbs in a pot (£2 in Sainsbury's) which are lovely to watch grow inside with the bonus that once they've finished flowering I can plant the bulbs and get some outside daffs next year Smile

Mumofyellows · 21/02/2025 07:53

I love them, always have a vase of them in my house from January onwards til they stop.
My Mum lives in France and they are ridiculously expensive there, she can never believe it when she sees them here for £1!

CoffeeCantata · 21/02/2025 08:46

I think so! I get bunch after bunch at this time of the year, and feel sad when they finally disappear.

I love flowers (especially spring ones - after the horrible winter) and the scent of daffs, narcissi (gorgeous but more expensive) and hyacinths reminds me of my childhood - my mum always had them.

I'm not such a fan of roses flown in from Kenya though. Or expensive bouquets with lots of irrelevant foliage, cellophane and rafia...you can keep those!

nutbrownhare15 · 21/02/2025 08:47

I got some yellow sticker ones for 59p. Just starting to bloom on my kitchen table.

PearlClutzsche · 21/02/2025 08:49

I love daffs, they cheer me up and make me think of warmer, sunnier days ahead.
We have lots coming up in the garden, but I buy the cheap bunches for the house, too!

Motnight · 21/02/2025 08:53

Daffodils are my favourite ever flower. They make me happy every time I see them!

Owl23 · 21/02/2025 08:53

Love them too, reminds me of my childhood and I always get lots in spring. Can't wait to have a garden to grow my own.

Lovelysummerdays · 21/02/2025 08:55

We just pick them tbh but you are right they are very cheery. Daffodils double each year so the the ones I planted a dozen years ago are now massive clusters of hundreds of daffodils. Up in the hills though so it’ll be a few weeks before they bloom

RosesAndHellebores · 21/02/2025 08:55

Love them. They give me a boost at this time of the year. Have already had a vase of them. Will buy more this weekend.

Sadly, I remember when they were 50p or three for £1.

CraftyNavySeal · 21/02/2025 08:55

I love them but no longer buy them since we got the cat!

AmeliaTangfastic · 21/02/2025 08:56

I am allergic to everything 😒, so can't have them in my house

But I do admire them for free outside! I love them

HelenCurlyBrown · 21/02/2025 08:56

As soon as M&S stock them, I buy 4 bunches a week for a whopping £4. Cut short and packed in a tank vase, they look gorgeous.

Trixiefirecracker · 21/02/2025 09:02

What’s a tank vase???

Catza · 21/02/2025 09:13

Agree, I always pick up a bunch of daffs or tulips with my shop. Sadly, tulips are a bit more expensive at nearly £3 but worth it!

JanglingJack · 21/02/2025 09:14

My 2 quids worth. Looked like spring onions a few days ago... Might need some more water, or more daffs! I love them.

It's the only time my partner buys me flowers, I love daffodil season!

Crunchymum · 21/02/2025 09:26

Always makes me happy when I see Daffs in the supermarket after Christmas (they seem to appear quite early in January over the past few years). Such a simple, cheap and beautiful treat.

My other faves - yellow roses - now cost a small fortune so I'll be making the most of the daffs.

BeaLola · 21/02/2025 09:29

Agree - they are a bargainous treat that never fails to bring a smile - 85p a bunch in Aldi.

I also love hyacinths but they have got expensive and my mums favourites were Anemones

harriethoyle · 21/02/2025 09:29

YES! They are so cheerful - bought three bunches on Wednesday and stuffed a jug full of them and they are just starting to bloom. Gorgeous!

OrlandointheWilderness · 21/02/2025 09:30

Absolutely love having them in. Lifts the spirit and gives the hope better days are coming!

GnomeDePlume · 21/02/2025 09:42

We grow them on our allotment for cutting. The early ones give us our first 'harvest' of the year. Cut our first about 3 weeks ago.

Are they toxic to cats?? I knew lilies were, but didn't know daffodils were.
