Daffodils £1 Is this the best cheap treat going?

Just bought daffodils at £1 a (small!) bunch. My favourite (non chocolate) cheapish treat.

OP posts:
ScottChegg · 21/02/2025 10:03

I love them too but have the bunches got smaller this year or am I imagining it?

Are they toxic to cats?? I knew lilies were, but didn't know daffodils were.

Yes they are! Lots of flowers are toxic sadly.

Roses only for me now!

TravellingTartan · 21/02/2025 11:26

This probs sounds a stupid question but what vase do you use for dads. Any links would appreciated.

TheChosenTwo · 21/02/2025 11:30

While I agree they are so cheery looking and a super cheap pick me up, I hate the smell of them! They smell like pee to me 😭
But I do pick up tulip at this time of year, very pretty and colourful and my local
florist have massive bunches for about £7. Makes me very happy 😊

Unredchat · 21/02/2025 11:33

This is mine, it's about half the height of a daffodil

Asda had some nice yellow vases this week. My dads looking lovely in it

Abitofalark · 21/02/2025 11:46

They appeared in Sainsbury's on 2nd January this year - that's the first time I've seen them so early. I buy them every week from February till whenever they finish in March. This year I've noticed you get fewer in a bunch and Waitrose are better value than Sainsbury's this year. I've bought them in Aldi in previous years and they are cheaper but not as good.

Daffs stupid autocorrect!,,

They make wonderful tiny 'just because' gifts for friends.

Ponoka7 · 21/02/2025 11:57

I like the Lidl £1.50 tulips. I do buy the daffs from Tesco, closer to Easter.

CornishGirl56 · 21/02/2025 12:01

Just had 3 bunches delivered with my Sainsburys shop this morning!

Back in the day we used to love our daffs on the windowsill in an old milk bottle.

Mine have ended up in a kilner jar, my only vessel available!

I can't see OPs picture - I'm assuming one has been posted.

MoonWoman69 · 21/02/2025 12:01

I got two bunches from Morrisons last week and they are nearly all open and gorgeous! They really cheer me up!

MoonWoman69 · 21/02/2025 12:03

And I didn't think the flowers were toxic, I know the bulbs are? My cats leave them alone anyway!

BestImitationOfMyself · 21/02/2025 12:13

My fave treat too! I got 2 x£ when I spotted them this week and they are so cheery. I love them so much more than expensive flowers. Also tulips.

I'm going a little off topic, but this is great!
So much information here about daffodils, and in the comments too.

ChocolateBiscuitsandaCuppa · 21/02/2025 12:42

It's the best part of this time of year. I have a bunch continuously for as long as they're in stock. Love the smell as well as the cheerful colour.

Bluevelvetsofa · 21/02/2025 12:42

They’re the most cheering of flowers and I love it when they’re in the shops.

BeaLola · 21/02/2025 12:50

Re vases M&S have a range of simple glass vases that are ideal for a range of flowers and not expensive

The small bunches look perfect in a plain highball glass. All my proper vases are too big for them.

spanieleyes · 21/02/2025 12:56

I live in daffodil-land, they are being harvested in the fields as you drive past and we can buy them for 50p a bunch in the market. Spring is sprung!

MimiGC · 21/02/2025 13:01

You can keep your roses, tulips, etc. Daffodils are my favourite flowers bar none.

Belaymehearties · 21/02/2025 13:01

I buy the little ones in pots (£1) then plant them out in the garden when theyve finished flowering and they'll come up next year 😁
