I do not believe in gender identity.

SernieBanders · 04/02/2025 09:05

There are two sexes: male and female. Occasionally, that matters.

There is no such thing as an innate gender identity—no internal essence that makes someone more inclined to wear dresses and sip wine, or football boots and down pints. Those are cultural stereotypes, not proof of some mystical gendered soul.

The idea of gender identity is sexist, misogynistic, and regressive. It reinforces outdated norms instead of challenging them. Women do not need an inner feeling of womanhood to be women. Men do not need a gender identity to be men. Sex is real. Stereotypes are not.

I hope with the flurry of cultural changes, legal challenges, scientific findings and executive orders in the last ~12 months, more people feel able to stand up and be counted, and say - No More.

i knew I’d be flamed.
@RobinEllacotStrike yes I do agree we should have the right.
I’ve literally never ever come across a trans person in a changing room in my life but yes I think women should be entitled to their own spaces .

Hardly flamed!

you're a terf!! welcome to terfdom. You should take the time to do a little more reasding around the subject.

Are you aware of the nurse currently being sued by the NHS for objecting to sharing a single sex changing room with a trans identified man? Sandie Peggie was asked in court yesterday by the NHS barrister that instead of complaining about the man in the ladies, why didn't she just be kind and kept quiet?

Well that's great for you, but what about the women who do?

What about Sandi Peggy for example?

Just look at the million threads on the subject. I don’t actually know if “anti trans “ is the right term. But there are loads of threads on how awful it is that trans people are attacking women only spaces.

like I say I’m not saying I disagree with what is being said. Just that the topic is so overblown. I’ve only met one trans person in my life and they were a child, going through a really tough time and trying to keep a low profile. I can already feel the anger mounting on this thread just because I said yabu.

So because women are defending their rights to their own spaces, you've decided that's 'anti-trans'?

Can you hear yourself there?

And because it isn't happening to you, it isn't a problem? Jeez

Yeh I am. I’ve seen all the threads and I already said I think women should be entitled to their own spaces. Not once have I said that trans men should be allowed into women’s spaces. It’s ridiculous. Wtf is a terf

So what, you support Sandie, but you don't think people should talk about it?

Thats an odd position if you don't mind me saying so.

Aren't you outraged for her? For what her employer is putting her through? Why is it not worth women's mental and emotional energy to talk about this?

Just saying this thread hasn’t added anything new it’s just literally a person saying “I don’t believe in gender identity who is with me” there is nothing ground breaking or new about it.

No you absolutely don’t you don’t know me at all based on a couple of mumsnet posts. I haven’t made any personal comments about you at all. There is no need to get personal.

CraftyOP · 05/02/2025 17:36

I disagree, since there have been people there have been people who aren't biologically male or female but both as well as people who are biologically one or the other that identify differently.

I find your response to my post, which outlined the serious issues women are facing, to be somewhat inappropriate. These are real women, dealing with some very shit stuff.

No one is biologically 'both'

Do threads on MN have to add anything new?

The best thing about this forum is no one is forcing you to be on MN, or more specifically this or any thread. I go to threads where my interests lie. I avoid threads about dogs (for example) as I have no interest in those discussions beyond "please keep your dog away from me" - but I do understand some people LOVE talking about dogs. I don't rush into dog threads to tell them how boring and pointless they all are because its of no interest to ME.

I'm pretty angry about this whole situation, yes. And how people try to undermine women's serious concerns and those suffering because of it. I'm not going to apologise for that anger.

I did to be honest because there have been absolutely hundreds of thread on this topic and it’s so boring. I do agree with a lot of what you are saying but it’s such a small group of people. There is such hyperbole on mumsnet about this topic and everyone on mumsnet is so anti trans that I don’t see the point of this post . Is it just to check that everyone still agrees with you ?

I didn’t see anything here as anti trans, do you?

Thank you for answering why you voted YABU. If only it were as simple as wondering if others agreed with OP or not. It is so complex and @RobinEllacotStrikes post sums it up well.
Be grateful that the only effect gender has on you is to bore you. It opens up new circles of hell on a fairly regular basis in my family.

If you had read all these threads, as you claim to, you would know that a "trans man" is in fact a woman and perfectly entitled to be in a womans changing room.

Why would you read "all these threads" on a subject you aren't interested in?

Something isn't adding up here.

There are threads about men riding rough shod over women’s rights and going into spaces and taking places in sports they’re not entitled to, by saying they’re something they’re not and is impossible to do - change sex, because it IS awful. It’s awful for many, many reasons. It doesn’t matter if you’ve met a trans woman or not. Single sex spaces are important and exist for a reason, women have fought for them, you allow men with special identities to enter they then become mixed sex. Women can’t tell good males from bad males. Can you?

You agree but apparently everyone else who thinks this is ‘anti-trans’?! This is personal and you expect no one to push back? Come on now. No one mentions trans men do they? So is it a trans problem or a male problem?

Yawn is apt here, I do it everytime I see posters like you say ‘so much transphobia!’ but can’t back up this with pretty much anything. All. The. Time.

Very yawn inducing indeed.

I didn’t ask for an apology but there is no need to be rude to people expressing their opinion even if you are angry. Why don’t you write to local politicians instead if you feel so strongly about it ?
