Aibu to tell you that I am one week smoke free and sugar free?

I was smoking at least 20 a day, 2 cans of red bull and at least 4 cans of coke. Basically a walking heart attack!

I am not ready to tell people in RL incase I fail.

Just to add, I am going to sleep soon as clearly it was just the sugar keeping me up to all hours!

pinksquash13 · 15/01/2025 20:53

Well done you! Are you feeling the benefit?

Absolutely! Someone at work actually asked if I was doing something different as I looked like I was glowing.

Sleeping better and no longer wheezing like a train!

Not wanting to cough in the mornings, being here for the children as they grow up and genuinely I did not enjoy it anymore. Extra money is a bonus!

Honestly, it was costing ridiculous amounts of money. Literally paying to kill myself. I have dropped 4kg!

I stopped smoking after the ban came in, took a while and few cheeky puffs here and there but the thought of having a cigarette now makes me want to puke. Sugar is also the devil, why is it all the fun stuff bloody takes years off! Well done OP and keep it up

I never imagined that I would be able to give up. It took time but I fell out of love with it and I was starting to feel really rough.

Well done you, amazing achievement.

Have you gone cold turkey?

Have you gone cold turkey?

Cold turkey. I have tried quitting other ways but just not associating with smoking is the only way it has worked for me so far.

I keep water with me at all times to beat the sugar cravings.

Wow that’s amazing! How do you keep up the willpower for the sugar?

ByPeachPeer · 15/01/2025 21:03

Well done! I don't know if you have the NHS smoke free app but it's actually really good to spur you on/calculates money saved/, tells you daily health benefits etc I used to look at it when I was tempted to have a cig

Trepidfox · 15/01/2025 21:08

@FcukTheDay i will also add my dad has COPD and watching how much that has impacted his life in the last few years what with recurrent chest infections, now reliant on medication and always breathless you are doing the right thing and will add years and quality to the rest of your life x

The willpower for the sugar is the number on the scales dropping and knowing finally, this summer I will be able to wear nice things.

Not having sugar has made me not want to eat other junk food, it really did go hand in hand for me.

That's amazing! Keep going.

I quit cold turkey 15 years ago and for the first two years I put the money aside that I would have spent on cigarettes. I spent it on a ski trip!!

I read the Allan Carr stopping book.

I am so sorry about that. Its awful. I had pneumonia a few weeks ago and I thought to myself that I would never cope if my chest was like this constantly

Amazing. Thats great that you managed to get an amazing trip out of money that would have literally gone up in smoke. Well done!

I am putting my money away for driving lessons as I feel I don't need to let things hold me back anymore.

I thought I would struggle but I woke up this morning and I didn't cough, seems like a small thing but for me it felt great.
