Aibu to tell you that I am one week smoke free and sugar free?

I was smoking at least 20 a day, 2 cans of red bull and at least 4 cans of coke. Basically a walking heart attack!

I am not ready to tell people in RL incase I fail.

Well done you

I went smoke free 20 months ago and now badly need to quit sugar so thats next. Tips?

Well done you, how amazing! Sugar is tough to crack, for me, I have just kept water with me which I never drank before. So every time that I feel like coke or a sugary snack, I fill myself up with water so the thought of having anything else puts me off as I am so full.

@FcukTheDay

I also need to drink more water so this is good thank you

CatsMagic · 15/01/2025 21:48

Well done FcukTheDay

I quit properly 11 years ago - prior to that I had a few tries but my heart was never really in it - I bloody loved smoking and easy got through 20 a day, double that if I was going out. I think when the timing is right it is much easier - you’ve done the worst bit which is that first week. Now the trick is to not have just one, and your brain will try to trick you at some point just keep telling yourself you aren’t going to smoke today .

My tip was if I ever felt tempted to drink a cold glass of water and run up and down the stairs.

You’re doing great !

Letlooseonthedanse · 15/01/2025 22:16

I’ve never smoked but stop drinking fizzy drinks/sugary drinks years ago and within a few weeks completely lost the taste.
Now drinking anything too sugary leaves me thirsty and Inhate the feeling of sugar in my teeth
It’s amazing how quickly your taste buds can change/ recover!

Meadowland · 15/01/2025 22:27

Well done, giving up both at the same time, you deserve a medal !
I have drastically cut down on sugar and it is amazing how much better I feel.
Really hope you are able to keep going.

Jk987 · 15/01/2025 22:31

This is brilliant, well done! Please say you're going to treat yourself with some of the money saved! A lovely facial or meal out!

Wish my partner would do this. His coughing and amount spent is worrying.

MoodySky · 16/01/2025 00:10

Well done, that's the hardest bit over.

I gave up smoking 24 years ago (25 a day) and have worked out that I've saved myself £99 000!!! I'd advise you to put your cig money in a pot and save it. My £99k seems to have disappeared somehow!

Well done! I have also had a few tries but have never really lasted longer than a day or two.

I am just taking one day at a time, just telling myself I won't smoke today.

That's really good! I admit it's really nice to having a fuzzy feeling on my teeth.

Thank you! Well if I had sugary drink or snack it immediately made me want to smoke so I thought they both had to go at the same time. They seemed to fuel each other!

Thank you so much. I am putting the money away and I am going to start my driving lessons!

I know, the cough is worrying. That's what prompted me to quit, I started coughing all the time but especially in the morning. In a week that's dramatically reduced.

That is great! I went cold turkey on sugar a long time ago when there was no sugar for my tea one morning and it was very difficult, so giving up two addictions at once is fantastic. Enjoy the healthier life you are having and make good use of the saved money!

MrsJamin · 16/01/2025 06:51

FcukTheDay · 15/01/2025 20:56

Honestly, it was costing ridiculous amounts of money. Literally paying to kill myself. I have dropped 4kg!

How long did it take you to lose 4kg?

A week. I am assuming because I was retaining so much water due to only consuming fizzy drinks!

That does not sound likely or healthy.

Okay then! Definitely has happened, when you have a high starting weight, you tend to lose more in the first week or two before it plateus. Weight was not and is not the aim of my post!

I don't think people on this thread are doing the op any favours by endorsing what must be a very unhealthy way of losing weight.

But I am not trying to lose weight? This was not about weight. It was just a byproduct of cutting our fizzy drinks. I really don't think anyone else has ever mentioned weight loss.

What! Stopping sugar overload is unhealthy. Please.

Well done OP!
