I am sick of hearing about ‘onlyfans models’

MidnightPatrol · 13/01/2025 15:49

Every day, at least once, I am served some content about ‘onlyfans models’ having sex with men, or as is most of the time - several men.

Bonnie Blue, Lilly Phillips. I suppose there are others.

I don’t click on the links, but it’s now a regular part of any social media feed.

Do people really want their social media feeds to be full of content about sex workers?

I have never had this type of content advertised on my social media. My ads are usually for live music, theatre, holidays and other things I have searched for.

username299 · 13/01/2025 15:52

I haven't received any of these links trying to entice me into having sex with women on Onlyfans.

I have noticed a rise in sex workers selling their services in the press, which is strange. Perhaps not so strange in our pornified times.

XenoBitch · 13/01/2025 15:53

I never get this on my social media. The content you get show is based on algorithms of your previous views and searches.
Is anyone else logged into your SM accounts?

DaftyLass · 13/01/2025 15:53

My socials just offer j stuff about crows, woodcarving, mini cows, and dams
That might say more about my search habits though

Jellycats4life · 13/01/2025 15:54

“Onlyfans model” sanitises the truth of the matter (and very deliberately so too).

It would be more accurate to say porn star, sex worker or prostitute.

StormingNorman · 13/01/2025 15:54

You are being served the content because of what you or other people sharing your router are searching. It’s algorithms. We all get different adverts based on our browsing histories.

GustyGertie · 13/01/2025 15:55

I don't get this on my feed. Is someone else using your phone?

No it’s not ads trying to get me to sign up for onlyfans. I haven’t seen any of those.

It’s mainly press stories / sponsored content type things.

Never had anything like this, mine is full of cruises , motorcycles and music

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 13/01/2025 15:56

Well you're pushing the algorithm, I don't get any of this.

I don’t think so - it’s not adverts, it’s content shared by publications mainly.

So eg the metro, or the evening standard. Daily Mail. That sort of thing.

And - not on Mumsnet. Twitter, Facebook.

I’ve never seen an advert for onlyfans.

Honestly I had to come off my FB. All I was getting is content about specifically Lily Phillips but also Bonnie Blue.

The more I click “not interested” the more I am shown. WHY!

I want the old social media where all I was shown was what I chose to follow.

Juliagreeneyes · 13/01/2025 15:58

It’s not actually always the case that the algorithms are particularly well tailored to your browsing patterns - Twitter in particular changes theirs all the time and often pushes quite weird content at you - and it varies wildly across different platforms. I don’t search or look at anything remotely relating to OnlyFans and I still get news content about this all over my Twitter/X feed every so often!

I also get other random content served to me - the royal family being the most curious repeat offender on Facebook.

But - as I say, these are usually big publications. I get other content from them too that is more bland, just they also seem to be posting stories about these people all the time (eg the daily mail!).

I have never once searched for anything related to Bonnie Blue and Lily Phillips on FB. And nobody shares my router.

I clicked on “hide post / not interested” and that apparently made things worse!

steff13 · 13/01/2025 16:02

I have news articles on my Google home page. Right now it's articles about what the Cincinnati Bengals need to do to improve their defense in the off-season; new items at Costco; a recipe for dark chocolate oatmeal bars, etc. All items tailored to my interests.

I get similar items on FB and Insta.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 13/01/2025 16:03

Mine is mainly holidays, kitchen equipment, tiles etc (because those are things I've been looking say/buying recently) and more and more often halara jeans, which to be honest I've made worse by clicking on one and looking at them. Which I'm assuming are being advertised to me as a woman who is now 40. I also get a lot of crime shots up on my bed feed, which is probably linked to my job and things I've clicked previously.
I don't get any news feed or social media content about only fans or adult sexual exploitation.

MidnightPatrol · 13/01/2025 16:04

@JHound @Juliagreeneyes Well I am glad I am not the only one suffering from this epidemic!

I agree social media was better when you just saw the stuff you followed - albeit, some of this probably is from sites I follow (newspapers etc).

Really they shouldn’t be given airtime at all by ‘respectable’ publishers etc.

OP posts:
canyouletthedogoutplease · 13/01/2025 16:07

Never, and I don't know who either of them are, never heard of them. I get pushed clothes, holidays and house renovations mostly.

These aren’t adverts - it’s content.

I don’t get adverts for onlyfans - it’s new stories about these people.

My ads are, as yours, stuff I’ve been looking at / some brands who are targeting eg yes Halara this week, although I haven’t clicked on that!

OP posts:
PizzaPunk · 13/01/2025 16:12

I don't get any news stories about those people.

In fact I've never heard of them.

Letsgodancing · 13/01/2025 16:34

I think some of these pay PR people to get there name in daily mail / sun and out there. Than they are controversial so generate clicks, gives them more publicity for their stunts. And because market is so saturated right now, it's getting more and more crazy.
There's also the netflix show hot girls wanted that came out in 2015 or 16, before onlyfans and it's basically girls who sign up to do video shoots, they do a few, than the next girl comes along and original girl feels the need to do more extreme stuff, she than gets rushed to A&E due to issues with her body.
I did see a video with some creepy looking 40+ man on tiktok all over Lily Phillips, he's definitely sort of man that thinks because he has got with her, he will be entitled to any woman that looks like her.
I think there are going to be horror stories in the years to come, plus some of these younger men may go onto have families, good careers and it could all come crashing down if people found out what they did years ago !
I also watched lily's documentary and felt awful for her and felt she definitely didn't have the protection needed (as in security ) for that.

toomuchfaff · 13/01/2025 16:36

can you do the "right click" - " not interested in this content"

I always do that when I'm getting make up and cleaning ads.

Catza · 13/01/2025 16:37

If you read yellow press, the algorithm assumes you are interested in this content. Maybe review what types of things you are looking for and reading. I have never seen anything about onlyfans in my life.

Lemonade2011 · 13/01/2025 16:39

I’m only on instagram and here. And tend to get cats/kittens on my feed none of that. Just scroll past and ignore it.
