To think that this is especially scuzzy, even for most dog owners

Yes, it's a dog one.

I live opposite a green where over the last couple of days, people have been putting out there live (now dead) xmas trees, ready for collection. Looking out of my window, I see a couple walking their dog, sniffing around the trees (fine!), then cock its leg and begin urinating over the trees. Some poor tree collector guy will be along to retrieve these trees, perhaps he is wearing gloves, perhaps not - even if he is, I doubt he'll take them off between pick-ups, meaning he'll be transferring dog piss on the steering wheel.

Or is it no big deal, and the trees may have squirrel pee on them anyway and he'll know it's a dirty job?

YANBU - it's gross and thoughtless
YABU - meh, don't care

Anyone working outside and picking stuff up will assume it is "scuzzy".
They wont be precious about it. No point you being precious when it is not you picking it up. Virtue signalling much?

HawkinsTigers · 08/01/2025 17:26

Isn’t the issue why are people fly tipping their Christmas trees?

I assumed there was a collection point happening today/yesterday - opposite is a block of flats so they don't really have their own gardens for collection of the trees.

Why were the couple sniffing the trees?

I am open to hearing from such workers whether they find dog pissy trees more scuzzy then general outside stuff. I know I would. I thought it was. very disrespectful of the dog owners to permit it.

Probably liked the smell of dog pee.

If folks used fake trees there wouldn't be a problem, but sure blame dogs. If you dump something outside then it's open to all elements, people, and animals.

Foxes piss on things too btw, are you going to moan about them too?

Moveoverdarlin · 08/01/2025 17:31

You could argue that every time a child picks up a leaf or a branch or a rock it could be covered in all sorts of pee from deer, to badger, foxes, dogs, bird poo. I wouldn’t worry about it. I am sure they’ll wear gloves.

People picking up stuff outside wont care. They wear gloves anyway. You are not picking it up, so why do you care?
I think this is just a thinly veiled dog bashing thread.

Redwinedaze · 08/01/2025 17:33

Missing the point but I’ve never heard of the term Scuzzy. Agree it’s not pleasant, I wouldn’t let my dog wee on something being collected.

I do have a fake tree. Not sure what that's got to do with blaming dogs for peeing on trees some guy will have to pick up soon.

I agree the elements leave the trees open to various other things, but people are in control of dogs, or should be, and I thought it was a disrespectful thing to allow happen.

Ha, really! It's a good word, eh!

I am glad to hear you wouldn't let your dog do it. I wish all owners were like you.

Oh give over. They're trees outside.

Hedgerow2 · 08/01/2025 17:36

I think whoever is collecting the trees should assume that rats, foxes, cats and dogs will have peed on them and take whatever precautions they see fit.

They have gloves on, and really don't care. My dad worked for the council and picked up all sort of crap. He didn't care. It was his job, he had gloves, and he was more than capable of washing his hands later on.
You are not one of those people picking up those "pissy trees". I would be more annoyed at the throw away culture that is buying healthy trees and putting them out to die later on.

I hate to be the one to tell you but rats, foxes and cats have probably pissed all over those trees long before the dog got there.

Disturbia81 · 08/01/2025 17:39

I agree with others that anything outside might have been peed on and they know it so can protect against it as they see fit.
But I wouldn't let me dog pee on it, it is scuzzy (love that word)
I wouldn't give it any brain space OP

TwentyTwentyFive · 08/01/2025 17:39

Honestly can't believe you even gave this a second thought. Plenty of wild animals will have urinated on the trees. The biggest problem you have in your area doesn't appear to be the dog owners but the scuzzy twits fly tipping the trees and hoping someone will just take them away.

Like I said, i have a fake tree and have done for 15 years, and it will last me til I am dead, so I am not contributing to the tree issue.

Ok, fair enough - I do think it's thoughtless to allow a pet to do it, we can't control foxes and squirrels, but we could at least have the decency to pull our dogs away from doing it. I find it fascinating that some people disagree.

Poppyseeds79 · 08/01/2025 17:39

Pissy trees are fine I think. It's the poo trees that piss me off 🤬 Why people think it's fine to have adorned trees with dog shit bags I will never know!

WeylandYutani · 08/01/2025 17:40

People that are precious about "scuzzy" things would not be in that job to begin with.
FFS, give the guys that pick up the trees some credit. I bet if you went up to one who picking up a tree, and mentioned how gross it was that there is dog piss on it, they would be taking the piss out of you to their colleagues later on.

oakleaffy · 08/01/2025 17:40

Some owners of male dogs let them piss up anything- including recycling boxes put out.

One wonders about the state of their homes.
