To think that this is especially scuzzy, even for most dog owners

Yes, it's a dog one.

I live opposite a green where over the last couple of days, people have been putting out there live (now dead) xmas trees, ready for collection. Looking out of my window, I see a couple walking their dog, sniffing around the trees (fine!), then cock its leg and begin urinating over the trees. Some poor tree collector guy will be along to retrieve these trees, perhaps he is wearing gloves, perhaps not - even if he is, I doubt he'll take them off between pick-ups, meaning he'll be transferring dog piss on the steering wheel.

Or is it no big deal, and the trees may have squirrel pee on them anyway and he'll know it's a dirty job?

YANBU - it's gross and thoughtless
YABU - meh, don't care

OP, have you ever been outside?

It's not exactly going to make the front page news that a dog pissed on a tree! That is what dogs do.

This is a complete non issue. The people picking up these trees will be wearing gloves.

(I'm not a dog owner, by the way).

5128gap · 08/01/2025 18:06

Fear not OP. They will be issued with gloves. Any sort of collection has potential hazards, sharps such as broken glass, syringes and so on and gloves are part of the issued clothing. Obviously they might decide to breech guidance and go bare handed, but its 1 degree where I am, so id think they probably won't. Often the person driving the vehicle doesn't pick the stuff up anyway, because it'd be a faff to park up, so the wheel will probably be OK too.

No they won’t. What other animals do you seriously think will piss on them other than dogs? There aren’t many other animals around and the tree is only there for a short time. Realistically, it’s dogs being walked that will piss on it.

And even if another wild animal did,I completely fail to see how that is a justification for humans letting their owned dog piss on it.

Astonishing that people are trying to justify people letting their dogs piss on things humans will handle. The entitlement and anti-social mindset of some dog owners is off the scale.

Anything left outside for days is assumed to be gross. The people picking it up will be wearing gloves. If they are affected by the prospect of dog pee on a tree, then they are in the wrong job.
OP is doing some virtue signalling in the form of dog hating. So predictable on MN.

Floralnomad · 08/01/2025 18:06

YABU , many male dogs even neutered ones scent mark anything new and anyone working with any kind of rubbish should be wearing gloves .

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 08/01/2025 18:07

Mice, rats, birds, foxes, squirrels all wee and poo never mind seagull shit !

However given the recent weather, it's very likely the rain will wash it off ! or the snow will when it melts !!!

OzCalling · 08/01/2025 18:09

Just wait until you find out about fox pee OP!

Georgyporky · 08/01/2025 18:10

It's piss.

Unpleasant, but not as bad as human faeces that are sometimes deposited in my local rec when the shitters won't use their own homes.

The outdoor workers don't even get extra wages for clearing it up.

CarolDunne · 08/01/2025 18:11

I would be more concerned about rat piss

K0OLA1D · 08/01/2025 18:13

Wow you're digging deep for this one

Gribbit987 · 08/01/2025 18:13

A couple of people have mentioned “throwaway culture” or the “waste” with real trees. Councils re purpose tree waste. They’re ground down and used as organic matter in public spaces - mulch, paths etc.

It’s far more green to have a real tree than plastic.

You're joking right? Rats, foxes, cats and any other local wildlife.

You can't seriously think it would just be dogs?

ChocolatePodge · 08/01/2025 18:17

After a quick Google one in five men don't wash their hands after a number two, far fewer after a wee, the chances are of him minding a bit of dog piss on his gloves is negligible 🤣

Ablondiebutagoody · 08/01/2025 18:18

Dog owners are scuzzy. If I squatted down for a piss and a crap in the park, eyebrows would be raised. They should do that stuff on their own property.

Dogs are not subject to the same rules/laws as people though.
A person takes a shit in the park because they choose to. A dog doesn't.

Rollse · 08/01/2025 18:20

My entire neighbourhood stinks of dog piss, it’s disgusting. People let their dogs piss on cars, garden fences, in the children’s park. I’m at the point where I automatically think less of a person if they say they have a dog.

Exactly. It's owners choose for it. They're the scuzzy ones, not the dog.

Itiswhysofew · 08/01/2025 18:21

Yep, my nieces dog that I look after, has attempted to pee on Xmas trees being sold and I've put a quick stop to it.

It's not a nice thing for owners to let their dogs do.

Where I am we have foxes, deer, squirrels, various birds and of course neighbourhood cats all peeing and pooing before even thinking about dogs.

You can’t see a difference between a tree waiting to be sold to go into someone’s home and a tree that’s been literally ditched in a local outdoor area? 😂

Redwinedaze · 08/01/2025 17:33

Missing the point but I’ve never heard of the term Scuzzy. Agree it’s not pleasant, I wouldn’t let my dog wee on something being collected.

Scuzz used to be an excellent rock music station.

RIP <removes hat> 😪

I don't believe you.
Outside is not going to be stinking of dog piss, especially this time of year.
The only people I know who who did moan about dog piss smell, were people with several dogs, and a patio, and during heatwaves in the summer. And that is people who let it fester.

Your local park is never going to smell of dog piss. You are making it up. FFS, why do people keep making stuff like this?

I can't choose where my dog pees. If she needs to go, she needs to go.

That's OK then, let her piss away. Have a dump too. Who cares if anyone else wants to use the space

RizzoRules · 08/01/2025 18:28

Have you thought that the person collecting said trees will have basic common sense to remove their gloves before touching the steering wheel?

And if they don't remove them you won't actually be in the vehicle to worry will you?

Now this may be a crazy suggestion, and it’ll really blow you away, but there is an invention called poo bags to deal with exactly this issue!
