To think that this is especially scuzzy, even for most dog owners

Yes, it's a dog one.

I live opposite a green where over the last couple of days, people have been putting out there live (now dead) xmas trees, ready for collection. Looking out of my window, I see a couple walking their dog, sniffing around the trees (fine!), then cock its leg and begin urinating over the trees. Some poor tree collector guy will be along to retrieve these trees, perhaps he is wearing gloves, perhaps not - even if he is, I doubt he'll take them off between pick-ups, meaning he'll be transferring dog piss on the steering wheel.

Or is it no big deal, and the trees may have squirrel pee on them anyway and he'll know it's a dirty job?

YANBU - it's gross and thoughtless
YABU - meh, don't care

It's so boring. We just get the same threads all the time. Yes a minority of dog owners are rubbish at picking up shit. The vast majority are fine, because there are a LOT of dogs around and if we didn't almost all pick the shit up we'd all be knee deep by now.

We think the lazy owners are minging too, but rather than talk about the issue, it's always dogs generally and dog owners generally who get the nonsense. My dog is a lovely lad, and I carry his every poo to a bin with pride! Even the dodgy runny ones, and those that contain unrecognisable objects he found in my bin.

You would love him!

That is literally the same as picking up a needle in a haystack.

Literally? What do you mean? That that's a reasonable amount of shit for a sports pitch?

BobbyBiscuits · 08/01/2025 18:55

They are gardeners/arborists by trade. They wear PPE and assume all the stuff they deal with is covered in animal piss and shit. Because it is.

So I wouldn't say it's the end of the world.

It's not the end of the world, but I think it's inconsiderate and disgusting, aka SCUZZY!

I wish people would toilet their dogs in their own gardens. Why don't they? I also don't like seeing the cocking of legs or the squat.

If you don't like seeing dogs pee, then DON'T LOOK. It is that simple.

I think it’s best you just stay indoors 🤣🤣🤣

BobbyBiscuits · 08/01/2025 19:01

@PeeWeeTree you're not wrong. I guess it's just the norm now to let them go in the park. People feel entitled because they're obliged to pick up the poo. But that doesn't account for the piss though. The gardeners will be expecting such things and have PPE and equipment to move the stuff.

How do you pick up piss?

BobbyBiscuits · 08/01/2025 19:02

@WeylandYutani yeah, that was kind of my point.

Piss on your own lawn. Then the rest of us don't need to worry about where we are laying our picnic blankets or letting our kids do cartwheels.

The outside world is not sterile. Foxes, badgers, rats, birds... they all do their business outside.

When I was kid, I did a load of forward rolls down a a hill, and ended up with a my legs covered in fox poo. Another time, I was outside, and I ended up with a huge bird poo on my face. What did I do? Campaign for no animals outside? Or accept that all sorts of mess is part of being out in the open. Guess what I picked.

The dog hatred on this thread is strong. The rain washes away dog piss, and what are us dog owners supposed to do? Train them to use a flushing toilet? My little dog is too thick to understand that.

I reckon mine could learn, but only if the cistern was filled with a beef gravy.

Sophiasguitar · 08/01/2025 19:12

Let kids cartwheel in their own garden. Picnic there too. Sorted.

People picking up stuff outside wont care. They wear gloves anyway. You are not picking it up, so why do you care?
I think this is just a thinly veiled dog bashing thread.

It’s not even thinly veiled. Just about anything outside will have body fluids from one species or another on it.

Rollse · 08/01/2025 19:14

WeylandYutani · 08/01/2025 18:25

I don't believe you.
Outside is not going to be stinking of dog piss, especially this time of year.
The only people I know who who did moan about dog piss smell, were people with several dogs, and a patio, and during heatwaves in the summer. And that is people who let it fester.

Your local park is never going to smell of dog piss. You are making it up. FFS, why do people keep making stuff like this?

What a strange reaction. Unfortunately I’m not making it up. My entire school run reeks of dog piss, and it goes through a park. It is a bit better with the snow, I will admit!

dessicatedlawn · 08/01/2025 19:15

Um - no expert, but it is a needly tree, so I don't think they would use their bare hands? So would then be protected from the weeing as well as known characteristic of the tree.

so THIS is what it's really about then.. But you said it's opposite a block of flats where people don't have their own gardens? I'm assuming most people walking their dogs round the streets there probably live in the vicinity and don't have their own gardens? If you live opposite the only green space in the area you will see a lot of dogs pissing and shitting unfortunately.

In answer to your question, if I was walking my dog on a lead, I'm quite selective as to what he pisses up, especially when walking on pavements, if he is off lead, there isn't an awful lot you can do.

A lot of dog owners don't care what mess their dogs make, so pissing up a discarded christmas tree won't even be on their radar, but those same people probably drop litter and block junctions etc.. being inconsiderate doesn't stop at dog mess, it is best you don't watch them if it really makes you this angry though.

frippit · 08/01/2025 19:30

I worked in country parks for 35 years, now retired. Yes some of our car parks did stink of dog piss, any vegetation left piled up for a day or so was pissed all over and horrible to move. Our vehicle tires, especially land-rover chunky tires would be caked in dog poo, and when we were working out in the park we were very careful to put tools down as dog poo was everywhere.
We provided many bins which filled up quickly with dog poo, and poo bags were discarded everywhere.
This situation became significantly worse over the last 15 years. Dogs and their owners really do dominate our countryside in my area to the detriment of other users.
I was also frequently jumped up at and barked at by uncontrolled dogs and as a consequence have pretty much zero tolerance of most owners and their pooches.

PersephoneSmith · 08/01/2025 19:32

No, they don’t care, you should see some of the things we have to pick up (we have to scrape road kill off the carriageway too, imagine that when it’s 30°)

TheWonderhorse · 08/01/2025 19:33

I'm a carpet cleaner. Sometimes piss is a relief.

Pickle2828 · 08/01/2025 19:57

I will never understand why dog owners think dog urine is somehow less disgusting than any other human waste product.

As a shopkeeper I find it especially disgusting when dog owners let their dogs urinate on our shopfront (brick wall) which is on a high street. They seem utterly oblivious to the rudeness of this. Nothing more gross than seeing yellow dribbles on the pavement and knowing people are walking through it and transferring the wee particles vom. Not sure what is in some dogs’ diet but sometimes it smells so strongly!

Why not just take them to a suitable place )eg grassy park) before bringing them to an unsuitable place? Or letting them out in the garden at home before trip out- a bit like how you’d put a small child on the toilet before leaving home.

Not meaning to get dog owners’ backs up but this comment no doubt will have done. I’m sure there are plenty of dog owners who would call/lead their pet away before urinating or defecating on something unsuitable which would cause risk/disrespect/damage/inconvenience to other people. More dog owners should be responsible in this manner.

Zoflora Pet will sort that. My mum has a cleaning company in a city centre, and every morning, a lot of the frontage of her contracts are covered in human piss.
Bloody vile, and humans should know better.

BIossomtoes · 08/01/2025 20:19

Dogs mark to let other dogs know they’ve been there. If anyone ever finds a way of stopping them from doing this I’m more than happy to give it a go.

I hate to be the one to tell you but rats, foxes and cats have probably pissed all over those trees long before the dog got there.

Not to mention before it was cut down and taken into someone's living room 🫢
