With pic - to throw these odd socks in the bin?

A carrier bag full. I swear some have been there for years!
I'm fed up of this soul destroying task

Shall I bin them after another try at matching? I'm fully at the bottom of my washing piles.

Is there a supernatural being causing this?

I've got an entire basket of the tings...they make my life hell

PizzaPowder · 30/12/2024 21:55

I’ve done this and started again. A couple of times 😀

JMSA · 30/12/2024 21:55

I hate waste but you will honestly feel so much better if you just get rid!

WomenInConstruction · 30/12/2024 21:55

Just wear odd socks?

Butteredtoast55 · 30/12/2024 21:57

Are your loved ones deliberately wearing unmatched pairs? I know it's a thing for some kids (although it would freak me out).

UpUpUpU · 30/12/2024 21:57

I use odd socks for cleaning the fish tank, then they go in the bin. I couldn’t cope with the amount you have!

it’s the new year, bin and start fresh

HereForTheAnimals · 30/12/2024 21:58

I gave up and just started wearing them odd. I didn't have that many though. Your 'washing sock thief imp' has been busy.

itsmylife7 · 30/12/2024 21:58

As soon as you get rid of them you'll find the other socks.

Most charity shops have a rag bag and accept clean clothing.
Just let them know it's for their rag bag.

youngerself · 30/12/2024 21:59

I've given DD2 19 plain black socks to examine
Oh god
DH just come in with 3 more😳

I feel your pain. And yes, am convinced there is a sock demon that interferes with every attempt at keeping orderly hosiery.

When I had a houseful of people, I used to end up with other people's random socks in with my clean laundry, yet I swear the tumble drier / washer was always empty when I started.

Now I live alone and only have black socks. And I STILL have a selection of odd ones that aren't the same styles taking up half my sock drawer just in case the demon spits their partners back through the portal at some point.

To answer your question - if binning them helps retain your sanity, fill your boots in my opinion, YWNBU!!

NewYearNewDietAgain · 30/12/2024 22:01

I have a bag full of odds! I bin them every other year or so! When I last moved (2 years ago) I paired up all the socks so I only moved with matching ones. Binned everything else. Now I have another bag full! No idea how!

When I say I'd wear them odd, they have to be from the same set, so no different thickness etc. I would happily pair the green and blue at the top of your picture up 😁.

Tupperwarefan · 30/12/2024 22:05

I would do as a PP said and send to a charity shop for their rag collection. Life is too short for that! Been there OP...been there

youngerself · 30/12/2024 22:08

Right they are off for rag to charity shop.
Apart from 2 lovely hiking socks that I bought in the last few weeks

Life is indeed too short

I’ve kept odd socks for months just in case the other one turned up. DH binned them all in the post Christmas tidy up. It’s quite freeing 😂

UnNiddeRides · 30/12/2024 22:11

Lots of them are just black, so I’d wear them even if they’re not a pair.

PuppyMonkey · 30/12/2024 22:12

Wear the odd socks. Nobody will notice. They’re not rags. Life is too short to care about odd socks.

Yes, but it depends how odd the socks are IME. Colours not a problem, but lengths, thickness and elasticity variation can lead to some very unpleasant walking experiences.

midgetastic · 30/12/2024 22:16

The fluffy pink one looks like the partner to one I threw away... pity

DramaAlpaca · 30/12/2024 22:19

I had an odd sock collection when my three sons still lived at home.

As soon as the two eldest left, I threw the whole lot out. It was surprisingly liberating Grin

You’ll cope.

LaineyCee · 30/12/2024 22:22

Tip for the future, only ever buy one brand and colour of sock. It completely eliminates this problem.

plominoagain · 30/12/2024 22:22

Well that’s weird , because that’s exactly what I’ve been doing this evening . After getting the ones paired that I could , I looked at the odd ones that must be years old and I can’t remember the last time they were paired , thought “fuck it “ and binned them . 2025 is going to be New Year, New Socks .

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 30/12/2024 22:25

I have a pile on my window bench in my bedroom. I went through one bag and now got more!

WhatIDoIsEnough · 30/12/2024 22:26

I would bin them
Although I would bin odds even of I only had 2 or 3.
