With pic - to throw these odd socks in the bin?

A carrier bag full. I swear some have been there for years!
I'm fed up of this soul destroying task

Shall I bin them after another try at matching? I'm fully at the bottom of my washing piles.

Is there a supernatural being causing this?

Coincidently, this morning I saw someone on YouTube make a cat/dog bed out of old socks! Quite a lot of sewing was involved though, lol.

Boredlass · 31/12/2024 18:39

I’d have binned them a long time ago. I have a limit of 4. If I haven’t matched them in 2 weeks, they’re gone

hazelnutvanillalatte · 31/12/2024 18:41

If I get a collection of odds that don't have partners within a few weeks I let the kids make sock puppets with them. The rest I give to charity

lemonyellows · 31/12/2024 18:42

Bin em

Curlygirl06 · 31/12/2024 18:57

I try and buy Asda/ Primark/ other makes are available black ankle socks for me. However, when I come to pair them up, why is there ALWAYS one that is either faded much more than the others, or it's a different cuff size? I spend bloody ages holding one sock against the other to see if they are the right "blackness", there's always an outlier somewhere.

Curlygirl06 · 31/12/2024 18:58

When the kids were small and they annoyed me, I'd send them upstairs with the odd sock bucket and tell them not to come down until they'd paired them all up!

LindorDoubleChoc · 31/12/2024 19:05

There's absolutely no need to send all this fabric to landfill! ShockShockShock.

Take it to the fabric recycling at the dump, or bag it up and label "recycling", and put it one of those clothes donation bins, or as pp have said, give to charity for recycling.

Why the fuck do people STILL stuff everything in the bin and forget about it? Drives me absolutely mad!

One of mine buys sets of trainers in different colours and wears odd trainers out… 💁

😦

Newname71 · 31/12/2024 19:32

This thread has made me decide to free myself and throw all our odd socks. From now on I’m going to buy lots of plain black and white socks all the same brand so it can’t happen again!!

DaphneLaurel · 31/12/2024 19:56

You have two pink zig zag socks in that pile. Are they not a pair?

How about dying them all black??

Redkatagain · 31/12/2024 20:11

My mother safety pins sock pairs together before she washes them.

When I retire I will do this.
No more odd socks

HelloOhHell · 31/12/2024 22:42

I’d bin them. Or use them for cleaning to avoid waste?

I had my washing machine repaired and they had to take out the drum as it wasn’t spinning properly and there were a couple of socks and even a pair of knickers that had managed to escape the main drum. Not saying that’s the case for all of those though 😆

anyway you can get these little mesh laundry bags for your smalls to avoid them going awol during a wash - I got some from Ikea. They were a couple of pounds (each bag)

I use to love a colourful sock, or characters but I just buy standard black or white socks to avoid this exact issue

Onlyvisiting · 31/12/2024 23:05

Bin them. I've still got the basket of last year's that I couldn't bring myself to throw away in case their friends turned up. This year I'm binning them!!
Oh, and buy sock clips. They clip them in pairs and stay on them whenever they aren't on feet (including rhe washing machine) genuinely one of the best thing I have EVER bought 😅

Recycle them, don’t bin them.

Take them to H&M. You will get a voucher for their clothes recycling scheme for £5 off a £25 spend

I never wear matching socks, just pull the first two out of the drawer. Must have saved hours of my life not matching them up over the years

SnoopySantaPaws · 01/01/2025 01:30

Butteredtoast55 · 30/12/2024 21:57

Are your loved ones deliberately wearing unmatched pairs? I know it's a thing for some kids (although it would freak me out).

I wear 'odd socks' BUT they have to from the same 'set' so they feel the same.

Hardcore!

thriftyhen · 01/01/2025 01:35

Just wear odd socks! We do. It's a surprise if anyone is actually wearing a matching pair.

And if you really don't want to keep them, don't bin them, recycle them.

SugarPlumpFairyCakes · 01/01/2025 01:38

I bin regularly. I cannot bothered.

Mama2many73 · 01/01/2025 01:50

My bag is going out on Jan 1st. And then I'll start again!
