Are there any conspiracy theories you believe in?

Inspired by another thread

I find conspiracy theories really interesting. I have never ‘believed’ any of them, more enjoy discussing them and how likely it seems that they could be true. I also think it’s more far fetched to believe that everything we have ever been told or ever will be told is the whole truth.

Are there any CTs you believe in? Lead me down a rabbit hole please!

I don't 'believe' it per se, or at least don't want to believe that a government would slaughter its own people.... But... There are questions I have about 9/11 after watching "Loose Change" - the doc where they 'prove' that the US was responsible. I watched it happening in real time and I 99% believe it was Al Qaeda responsible but that documentary definitely leaves some questions. You certainly can't sit there going "Well, thats obviously bollocks and explainable!" 🤷🏼‍♀️

Seriously? You don’t know?

I have no idea either! What is it?

Whatsthepointhey · 22/12/2024 18:49

What do you think happened?

I think the most likely explanation is that she died in their care (probably accidental) and they hid her body and faked the abduction.

IncessantNameChanger · 22/12/2024 18:55

I shouldn't because I'm a die hard scientist, but the UFO things talked about in Congress. WTF is that all about? Shudder

SuperfluousHen · 22/12/2024 18:52

Always? 🤔

It’s quite a common racist trope, similar to the angry black woman idea.

arcticpandas · 22/12/2024 18:56

Igotjelly · 22/12/2024 18:36

It’s a conspiracy theory rooted in antisemitism.

Perhaps rooted but nowadays it's more linked to the far right talking about muslims/Black people taking over the world.

HornyHornersPinger · 22/12/2024 18:56

You used to be able to watch and order the Loose Change doc for free because 'they want the truth out there'. I ordered and got sent a dvd copy for free but this was years ago...

katter · 22/12/2024 18:56

I think as long as they don't harm real people dabbling in conspiracy theories is fun.
When it comes to things like Sandy Hooks false flag, Jon Benet Ramsay killed by her brother, etc. they are just horrible.

Pllystyrene · 22/12/2024 18:56

The moon landing, none of the maths adds up and we really didn't have that level of technology at the time.

Never heard it applied at anyone except Michelle.

No one can know for sure but ones I can easily believe include:

Covid was leaked from a lab
David Kelly did not commit suicide
There is more to 911 than meets the eye
There were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq

There are loads more that I wouldn't be surprised either way, I try to keep an open mind on most things.

chaosmaker · 22/12/2024 18:57

scientology

ElsaLion · 22/12/2024 18:57

@DowntonNabby Speculation that the Titanic sinking was planned, for different reasons. One theory being the White Star Line were in significant debt, so planned it as an insurance scam. Another reason given relates to the deliberate sinking/drowning of a number of high profile Americans who opposed plans to introduce the US Federal Reserve. There are probably other theories, but these seem to be the main two.

I didn’t think this was a conspiracy theory.

ILikeItWhatIsIt · 22/12/2024 18:58

Chester Bennington/Chris Cornell didn't commit suicide (only half believe this one)
Satanism & adrenochrome use in Hollywood (fully believe this one!)

I do wonder about the moon landings

Seriously?

You think they were faked?

How?

FeegleFrenzy · 22/12/2024 18:38

Definitely JFK, no way could he have made that shot and so many people report hearing multiple gunshots.

I’d quite like to believe that a portal to the 5th dimension exists and maybe that’s where the aliens are coming from, but the portal could be very small….like 10cm across so we haven’t noticed it 😁

There was a really good documentary on the tv, must be a few years back now, but they took all the film footage, and also bullet wounds data included, and put it in a computer to produce a reconstruction. I can’t remember all the ins and outs of it all now, but the main thing that stuck in my mind was that it was one of his protection officers who was the most likely to have caused actual fatal wound to JFK, riding in the car in front of the president’s, returning fire. It was all very compelling and seemed very plausible.

I also watched another one, also years ago, on Diana by a crime investigator who went to Paris just a few days afterwards and examined the scene. I can’t remember all the details of that now either but he found some evidence that the police had missed and it all pointed to a tragic accident not a hit job.

I keep hoping they’ll be repeated some time, but I’ve not managed to catch them yet!

GlitchStitch · 22/12/2024 18:59

I believe Marilyn Monroe was murdered and that the Kennedys were involved.

I have various thoughts on the JFK assassination, mainly that Oswald wasn't working alone and that Jack Ruby was deliberately given access and riled up to kill him.

SuperfluousHen · 22/12/2024 18:58

I didn’t think this was a conspiracy theory.

It was at the time. The definition is anything that goes against the current narrative.

NeelyOHara1 · 22/12/2024 19:00

To really work a conspiracy theory has to have an element of 'I suppose there's a chance that might have happened'...

What do you think happened to them instead and why cover up?

You believe the blood one?

Campingholidays · 22/12/2024 19:00

Finland doesn’t exist is one of my personal favourites - apparently it was created to disguise part of the ocean so the Japanese and Russians could fish outside of the law. Wonderfully batshit.
All of the Ancient Alien stuff entertains me endlessly.
I once read that some Flat Earthers don’t even truly believe their own theory, it’s more of an exercise to take something completely provable and argue the opposite.
Dinosaurs didn’t exist and it’s all a Big Paleo Conspiracy is superb and once made a few appearances on Mumsnet.

How do you suggest they managed to get away with hiding the body without anyone seeing them, or the body being found? In a foreign country, with police crawling around that would have loved to find a body, and everyone being questioned as to their whereabouts.

But if MM's parents were in on it, why would they have worked so hard to keep the case in the public eye for all this time? MM's disappearance continues to be one of the most high profile cases in the UK and much of that is down to the persistence of her parents. If they were somehow responsible for or complicit with her disappearance, I don't think they'd try to keep the world's attention focused on her case for fear of a retired detective somewhere saying, "Aah haa, but have the police checked....?"

That Madeleine McCann's parents have always known what happened to her in Portugal.

Not sure about this one tbh. They've carried on investigating for too long. Surely if they had something to do with it, they would be letting it go.
