To think my business idea would be popular

Do you ever get paranoid that your home smells but you can’t tell because you’ve become nose blind to it?

Here’s my idea;

Customers in my area can log on and book a visit slot, they pay £10 and I then turn up to their home and simply tell them whether it smells or not.

The business model isn’t designed to be helpful if it turns out that your house does in fact smell lol, it’s more for peace of mind that it doesn’t smell.

Would you pay £10 for peace of mind that your house does not smell?

I wouldn't. If I'm happy with the smell, it doesn't matter.

I like to open the windows a lot anyway, and loath chemical cover ups.

parietal · 21/12/2024 21:57

But would you get any repeat customers?

And if the house does smell, are you going to sell some nice scented things too.

Bonjovispyjamas · 21/12/2024 21:58

No 🤣 Could just ask a friend or neighbour to have a sniff If they think it might smell and save £10.

Only if they get paranoid their house smells again 😂

I think everyone's house 'smells' a certain way so it depends on how you're defining 'smell' lol

PickledPurplePickle · 21/12/2024 21:59

Sorry but 🤣

Presumably they’d need her back for a follow up visit so she can tell them whether it still smells or not

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 21/12/2024 21:59

Erm no.

Imperrysmum · 21/12/2024 22:00

I think this is mainly aimed at pet owners. Im paranoid my house smells right now and would love someone impartial to come round and just give me a straight yes or no for £10

LOL. Thank you! Didnt think of that. See this business is getting lucrative

Smell is too subjective, so no.

The people I know probably would be 😁

I have the same paranoia. Where do you live? If you’re nearby we can do an honest exchange Grin

SatansBobbleheadedDashboardOrnament · 21/12/2024 22:02

What happens if they've done a massive shit? Do you offer them a second slot for free?

custardpyjamas · 21/12/2024 22:02

How good is your sense of smell? You may not be able to tell and then get sued for an undiagnosed bad smelling house.

Iamfeel · 21/12/2024 22:02

Most houses do have a smell. Deep fat dryer and cheap scent are 2 common ones and people are oblivious.

I think its a goer. Have a word with Claude Littner.

My cat is guaranteed to do this 10 minutes before a guest arrives.

I would love this. I think ours probably smells of cat food. But nobody I know is truthful enough to actually tell me. Even though I tell them I won't be upset or offended

Don't think this is a viable business.

Would 10 pounds even cover your transport costs to get there and any parking charges.

There are safety issues with going into a stranger's home as a lone woman. Even less viable if two people went.

Butchyrestingface · 21/12/2024 22:05

You may have more success if you offer a service advising PEOPLE if they reek or not.

Houses - I doubt anyone will GAF.

PuppyMonkey · 21/12/2024 22:05

What qualifications have you got to prove your sense of smell is accurate OP? Grin
