I've just fallen for an email. I never fall for this.
I clicked in the link and answered questions. Then asked for bank details to send the advent scratch card 🙈 Only then did I click. Hopefully I haven't compromised my email? Or phone?

I had exactly the same email but deleted it because I could see it wasn’t legit just from the amount it said I’d won - £100.000 Advent Calendar.

If you didn’t click on any link I imagine things are fine.

LushLemonTart · 19/12/2024 14:38

I did I answered a survey. It didn't say I'd won 1k said it was a scratch card.

I'm worried.

If they were asking for your bank details and you didn't give them then you're fine. The scam end game was to get your bank details.

Go to your settings and clear cache and cookies. I'm sure it'll be fine.

FlowersOfSulphur · 19/12/2024 15:08

But if you've clicked on a dodgy link (even if you haven't given your bank details), then technically I think it's possible for spyware to be installed on your phone which monitors every key stroke, thus uncovering things like your online banking PIN.

Hopefully the fact that they asked for your bank details, suggests that they can't get them via spyware. Do you have virus protection on your phone?

xILikeJamx · 19/12/2024 15:22

If they've got your name, address, email, other info etc then expect to start receiving other fishing emails form things like mobile phone, credit cards, banks, utilities saying that payments are not going through or similar. Never click the links!

You might even get a phone call from 'your bank' with the correct phone number for your bank showing up (they can spoof this) asking you to go through security questions to 'recover your account' due to suspicious activity from the fake website - always hang up and call the bank from a different phone to confirm (if you use the same phone they could hijack the connection again and pretend to be the bank)

Whiskeyandkittens · 19/12/2024 15:30

Ah bloody hell I nearly got caught by a very similar Shein mystery box one last week, in my defence it was before I'd had coffee! I felt so stupid after as I'm normally so careful!
I have scanned my phone to be on the safe side as I also clicked the link 🙄

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 19/12/2024 17:48

I also had this today but twigged it was a scam. But I did almost click on it!

Bexter7 · 19/12/2024 19:18

I stupidly did the same! Ironically had been logged into postcode lottery about 10 mins before so automatically assumed it was a legit survey.. stupid! Have frozen my card and reported it.. looks like it’s a subscription scam- amazingebooks shop, so will take the £2 monthly from your account, so would be worthwhile to contact your bank to cancel..

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 19/12/2024 19:20

They already have your email address and probably your phone number. So long as you didn't give your bank details you should be OK.

Legendofthelostkeys · 19/12/2024 19:21

I must have had about 10 of these sodding emails today!! So bloody annoying

Oldboychap · 19/12/2024 19:48

I stupidly fell for it,but thankfully realised quickly.paid using a card that I have to transfer money into, not main bank, account. When I realised it was more than likely a scam I phoned card company, they completely froze that card. Payment was showing as pending, when I use that card it notifies me within minutes, seconds that I’ve spent ££ on it. So they might get their £1.99 but hopefully nothing else.
card company as I said froze old card so detail can’t be used to gain money. Card company said no payments can be made against that number now. They gave me a new digital card number.
Thankfully that card only as a small amount of money on it

i dont normally fall for these and have plenty emails blocked. Just had a moment.

Oldboychap · 19/12/2024 20:02

just received what looks like their way of getting money
mine was Thebetterdiet.net,looks like a scam, and it looks live a trial monthly subscription to another diet plan thing Mynutridiet.net.so they must be thinking of getting monthly amounts but not from my account now, hopefully,I’ll see in a month

Bakewellbits · 19/12/2024 20:02

Dont worry too much. Just be careful of anyone calling you in the next few weeks claiming to be from your bank. Scammers use the info you've provided to contact you later on - they often pretend to be your bank and say you your money is at risk because of the scam you reaponded to, and you must transfer all your money to a safe account (can sound legit, but it's all a scam).

Michnmartc1234 · 19/12/2024 20:05

Oh shit I also has this and did the survey but no band deets x praying I’m safe

Bakewellbits · 19/12/2024 20:06

Can anyone share a screenshot of the email you got actually? I work for Age UK and would like to share it - a lot of older people I work with are always picking up Postcode Lottery scams.

This is the one I got. Dear people's postcode lottery customer was a bit of a giveaway!

Thanks so much @ImDrinkingRum.
Yeah dead giveaway 😅It's pretty well designed though to be fair!

ImDrinkingRum · 19/12/2024 20:49

It is well designed however I'm a cynical fucker 😂

LushLemonTart · 19/12/2024 22:18

I am usually. I'd recently emailed them as don't get emails when I win. Have only won a few small amounts and recently some socks!

Lucky616 · 19/12/2024 22:51

Here is what mine looked like. I win regularly on people's postcode lottery (small amounts and gifts usually) so thought nothing of it. A convincing scam!

I almost fell for this, this afternoon and I meant to start a thread about it!

Toddlerteaplease · 19/12/2024 23:00

I can't remember of if I filled in my details. Fortunately I clicked in time.
