DP has given me the man flu he’s been suffering with all week. I wish I’d been more sympathetic now, it’s bloody horrible! Can’t remember feeling this bad for years.

Symptoms are:

Yesterday, managed to go to work, my chest felt like it was on fire all day and I had a dry cough. By the end of the day I was feeling very achy and dizzy. Had a bath and tried to warm up, but the chills were awful. Managed to get some sleep with the help of corvona for the coughing.

Woke up today with a fever, and feeling really achy, weak and feeble. Any attempt to move, to go to the toilet etc is accompanied by dramatic moans. Still feel very dizzy. And now back to having chills again. Also been coughing up a lot of yellow grim stuff today.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Haven’t been ill for ages and got so much on the next couple of weeks in the run up to Christmas, I’m hoping it’s not going to last until then 🤞.

Might it be covid?

Sending lots of love ❤️

Emmadaily · 14/12/2024 16:43

Sounds like a chest infection with the yellow suptum you have just described.
Hope you feel much better very soon .

Our whole family have had this for the last week, it’s awful and by far the worst dose we can ever remember getting. I think it’s whatever nasty strain of influenza that is going around at the moment. I’m pregnant and got the flu vaccine (although only a week before becoming symptomatic - think it needs 2 weeks to take effect. My son developed muscle weakness and pain in his legs and apparently this is called Benign acute childhood myositis which is associated with influenza. Hope you feel better soon, it’s a really nasty dose. I think there were other threads about it over the last few days so you’re not alone.

I've had an awful heavy cold this past 9 days and counting. Not COVID as I've tested but but me muuuuch harder than normal. Everyone around me has had it and struggled too!

Searchingforthelight · 14/12/2024 16:47

Can't imagine what it might be lol

TheYearOfSmallThings · 14/12/2024 16:47

I've had something similar - like you I hadn't been ill for ages. I wonder if my immune system got a bit lazy and then WALLOP!

Searchingforthelight · 14/12/2024 16:47

I mean, I hope you're well soon
But we all know what it likely is

WolfFleece · 14/12/2024 16:50

I do have some ancient Covid tests downstairs, they went out of date a couple of
years ago but I’ll do one anyway and see what it says, if I’m able to get down the stairs at some point!

I’ve got it at the moment but without the cough. I’m so dizzy, weak and just aching.

I’ve also had an upset stomach 🥴

Regalrosie · 14/12/2024 16:53

It sounds like every possible virus that does the rounds in the winter - take your pick, Rsv, flu, covid or a cold. They all make you feel crap.

PlantDoctor · 14/12/2024 16:54

I've done a COVID test if that's what you mean. Other viruses can be just as nasty

Frequency · 14/12/2024 16:54

Sounds similar to what I have. A god-awful headache that just will not shift. For the first few days, all I could do was lay in a dark room because any type of light made me want to rip put my eyeballs.

I also shift between fever and chills, have constant nausea, diarrhea, a chesty, hacking cough, joint pain, and general aches, and could sleep for 12 hours, wake up, and want to go straight back to bed.

I'm on day 7 and feel slightly more human today. I assumed it was Covid.

Devilsmommy · 14/12/2024 16:56

@Frequency sounds more like the flu to me. It's meant to be extra nasty this year too

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 14/12/2024 17:00

Not flu but nasty virus our way, lots of people have got it, I think me and parents got it when I visited them for lunch a week ago.

Everyone seems to have it this year or similar.

florasl · 14/12/2024 17:02

We’ve had an awful, similar cold for the last week showing no signs of going. Suspect it’s Covid as I’ve lost my smell and taste too.

whoput50penceintheeejit · 14/12/2024 17:06

sounds like walking pneumonia

ijustneedaminute24 · 14/12/2024 17:11

I've had this and still don't feel 100% 2 weeks later. It's either flu or covid although I tested negative. My mum has had both boosters quite recently and hasn't caught it from either me or the kids. My flu jab got cancelled annoyingly and I didn't get round to rebooking.

My appetite went, I was permanently cold and now have a chesty cough with so much snot, just so much of it 🤢. At one point I couldn't move my eyes without wincing. The kids both had stomach ache from it and a few in their class had sickness.

Vergus · 14/12/2024 17:23

Flu. Or RSV. Both equally evil

Vergus · 14/12/2024 17:24

My money’s on good old-fashioned flu though, which is particularly distinguishable by the aches and chills and fever.

What’s the point? You don’t need an out of date and unreliable test anyway to tell you your symptoms do you? Madness!

Whatkatyforgottodo · 14/12/2024 17:35

I’ve been ill for over a week with it now. Thought I was getting better but now have a splitting headache and nausea. Not sure if they are side effects from all the medicine I’ve been taking? Assume it’s flu and desperately hoping I don’t give it to the rest of my family! Although the children were both sick with fever a week or two before me so hopefully they’ve had it already…

FeegleFrenzy · 14/12/2024 17:39

Flu? Apparently rates of flu are very high.

baroqueandblue · 14/12/2024 17:39

I've got it, right on the heels of a grim stomach bug that lasted weeks. Not sure exactly when it segued into this bastard flu, but it's a shocker and all I feel after weeks of this shit is white hot rage! 😄 Oh plus the psycho-sealion croup cough, freezing then boiling fevery feelings, restless legs, zero energy, virtual coma, dodgy appetite and achey everything.

Best of luck patients!

Yes. That's true. Many hospital admissions 🥺
