DP has given me the man flu he’s been suffering with all week. I wish I’d been more sympathetic now, it’s bloody horrible! Can’t remember feeling this bad for years.

Symptoms are:

Yesterday, managed to go to work, my chest felt like it was on fire all day and I had a dry cough. By the end of the day I was feeling very achy and dizzy. Had a bath and tried to warm up, but the chills were awful. Managed to get some sleep with the help of corvona for the coughing.

Woke up today with a fever, and feeling really achy, weak and feeble. Any attempt to move, to go to the toilet etc is accompanied by dramatic moans. Still feel very dizzy. And now back to having chills again. Also been coughing up a lot of yellow grim stuff today.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Haven’t been ill for ages and got so much on the next couple of weeks in the run up to Christmas, I’m hoping it’s not going to last until then 🤞.

Did you believe your husband when he had it or did you think he was putting the symptoms on abit.

Just googled the symptoms and yes I do tick every one of the boxes. But it says contact doctor if you’ve had a cough for 3 or more weeks, so I guess they won’t want to see me yet?

Well I would be ringing 111 at the very least. My work colleague was admitted to hospital.

I believed him. I wasn’t making him get up and do stuff, although he had to fend for himself as I was out at work a lot. But he’s the kind of person who obsessively tries to not be a nuisance so he would have underplayed how he was feeling. He took himself off to the sofa the nights his cough was really bad, I said I’d sleep downstairs but he insisted it was him 🤷‍♀️ as I had to be up for work.

Seems like this is going on a bit too long with no improvement at all and you need some medical advice / intervention.
The symptons sound alot like infection and maybe a course of anti biotics with a 5 day course of steroids will get you on the road to recovery .
Good luck OP .

Am currently on day 5 of this fresh hell. Every day brings a fresh new pain. Headache, fever, body aches, sore throat, no appetite, stomach issues, ear ache, face ache, unproductive cough... lasted 4 days for DH, but I just seem to be getting worse each day.

Oliveoily · 17/12/2024 20:11

You can buy Flu lateral flow tests from some supermarkets / pharmacies too.

Agreed with lots of your symptoms including loss of appetite, I’ve had to force myself to eat my blueberries with porridge or yogurt and granola but today I wasn’t even sure of lunch until scrambled eggs and toast sounded nice, it goes up and down. I have a chesty cough with some phlegm some not.

WolfFleece · 17/12/2024 20:25

Yes eating is hard, literally nothing appeals to me at all.

I'm on hopefully the tail end. Sudden onset aches and shivers, weak slight nausea, something chesty, splitting headache, slept and barely able to get to loo.
2 days and nights a blur.

PomandersandRedRibbon · 17/12/2024 20:31

I could only have crisps and forced myself to eat plain yogurt.
By day 3 a fry up was delicious though

After nothing for 5 days apart from half a piece of toast, a McDonalds breakfast was the only thing that sounded good. Not something I would normally eat, but anything is better than nothing, and they deliver..

It's awful isn't it

Caerulea · 17/12/2024 21:58

Ooo I wonder if this is me? I never get ill, even with covid I didn't have a temperature. I get snotty, that's about it - I've a superhuman ability when it comes to mucus production 💪

But both my resident kids have been sick with cough & temp & now I've bloody got it! My legs really hurt & my bum cheeks (like Wtf?) & it seems to have triggered my gallstone filled gallbladder into a bit of a tantrum too.

I'm self employed & this needs to have resolved itself by Thursday, no ifs no buts.

Forgot to add - had awful night sweats & woke up being throttled by my own hair wrapped around my neck. That was grim

WolfFleece · 18/12/2024 14:49

I got a doctors appointment for today and they gave me some antibiotics. She did say they probably wouldn’t help as it’s most likely viral but anything is worth a try at this point. I think the sight of me sat there sweating in my PJs and dressing gown, with wild hair that hasn’t been brushed for nearly a week must have been something to behold.

Had a terrible night’s sleep last night, even with the codeine and night nurse, I kept getting woken up by the aches, just couldn’t get comfortable.

I tried to venture out to get some more Lemsip today. Very bad idea. Was totally knackered and slept all afternoon. An improvement on not being able to sleep last night, I suppose.

Mickelodeonssnazzypot · 18/12/2024 15:48

Apart from sleeping and keeping high temp down with paracetamol, this drink seems to be helping:
ginger, lemon, honey, minced fresh garlic in a mug of strong hot green tea. If green tea isn't appealing, blackcurrant does the trick as well. 🤒
