Would you allow your near neighbour to view your doorbell footage cctv for the day on which there was a daytime burglary on their home?

Weird question. Why wouldn't you?

Imhelendawson · 07/12/2024 19:09

I presume this is a reverse. Yes of course I would.

TreadLight · 07/12/2024 19:09

Of course, just send them the relevant sections.

Lostworlds · 07/12/2024 19:10

Strange question but yes!

BruceAndNosh · 07/12/2024 19:11

Yes of course.
A friend passed on their Ring doorbell after their neighbour was burgled and as a result culprit was arrested

EffortlesslyInelegant · 07/12/2024 19:12

Oh it's a reverse. How exceedingly tedious.

Pottedpalm · 07/12/2024 19:12

Of course you would.

AgentProvocateur · 07/12/2024 19:12

of course. Why wouldn’t you?

MargaretThursday · 07/12/2024 19:12

I think it would depend on what sort of relationship you have with them - or are the sort to complain.

If you've done lots of gossiping about them even to others on the street, then they might well be nervous that the next thing will be you telling others that they could be seen and give all sorts of issues that way.

If I was asked, then if it was a neighbour I got on well with I'd show them. Someone I didn't know or was a bit of a pain, I'd probably want to look first at the footage to check there wasn't anything they were going to fuss about. I might go back and say there was nothing to be seen, so no point in them looking, but only if that was true.
If they were a pain, and there was something I'd probably suggest that if they gave me a crime number I'd give it to the police directly.

TheFormidableMrsC · 07/12/2024 19:13

Why won't they give it to you OP?

Couldn’t agree more. Extremely tedious

RosieFlamingo · 07/12/2024 19:13

Yes of course, why wouldn't you?

Lilacbloomers · 07/12/2024 19:14

yeah Of course.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 07/12/2024 19:14

Depends if the neighbour was a twat

Sophiasguitar · 07/12/2024 19:15

How can it be a reverse? The OP hasn’t mentioned who she is in this scenario.

Yes I would, even if they were annoying.

TTPDTS · 07/12/2024 19:15

Depends - if the doorbell shows anything then yes! If not, no? Also depends on the neighbour - someone I'd had a long running feud with over mumsnet parking or bins, maybe not 😂

ExpressCheckout · 07/12/2024 19:17

I have a cheapo CCTV camera, but I've set it up to only record movement on my front door/path area. I thought it was illegal to film/record other people's properties? I could be wrong.

HPandthelastwish · 07/12/2024 19:19

No because it only points at my front door.

Strictlythebest1 · 07/12/2024 19:20

It's a fairly quiet private road, without much traffic. I was hoping to view the vehicles on that day and supply numberplate to police.

One person 5 doors down did share footage, but unfortunately it didnt show the car number plates.

Other person 5 doors down said they would only show it to a 'policeman visiting their property'. Police obviously didn't have time.

Just pissed me off as he was burgled himself a few years ago and has a lot of cctv.

No feud. I've lent him gardening tools before but this was years ago. It's not a friendly road, but nobody has any arguments.

(Except now I silently hate him)

I get police on occasion asking to watch footage on my CCTV. Why wouldn't you?

I think because it was me asking and not police.

Sorry that’s happened @Strictlythebest1. Your neighbour is a dickhead.

LivinInYourBigGlassHouseWithAView · 07/12/2024 19:43

Did you ask him how he felt when he was burgled and why on earth would he not help out a neighbour under similar circumstances?

What an arse! I'm sorry this has happened to you.

Beautifulweeds · 07/12/2024 19:58

Yes, we often do anyway. X

No there was some back and forth but he was adamant he was reasonable in wanting a 'policeman' to visit him.
