Would you allow your near neighbour to view your doorbell footage cctv for the day on which there was a daytime burglary on their home?

My parents volunteered footage after a neighbour was burgled. They were then told they could be called as witnesses at any time - it wasn't good enough to submit the footage, they had to actually vouch for it in person - and had to be available to go to court, or risk contempt of court. This went on for about 2 years, during which they were given no more information than "at any time", meaning they could not plan ANYTHING, book holidays, plan to do anything. Eventually they thought "f* this" and got on with their life, but stressed no end until then. So they tried to help, and were more or less held ransom for 2 years. Never again. THAT is why people refuse to help.

That's bullshit I'm sorry. Trials are scheduled for when key witnesses are available, and they are not available it won't go ahead. Or if they are not key, it will go ahead anyway and cctv can be exhibited via a section 9.
Sounds like the case didn't even go ahead if they didn't hear more about it and nobody liaised with them on dates.

This happened. It was not in the UK, but would certainly influence my decision (in the UK) to help.

…be the last time they borrowed anything off me

When we were burgled we caught the burglars on our camera in the house. We shared the footage with the police and they used it in court. We were not called as witnesses. The two sad old men who broke in went back to prison for Christmas, probably just as they wanted.

I would have been happy to share recordings with any neighbour if it would have helped,

It's not the same in the UK so you'd be unreasonable to let their experience guide you imo

Nopes, not my actual neighbour but they have form for stealing my parcels anyway partly the reason I have extra cameras..I wouldn’t piss on them if they were on fire let alone show them any cctv even if the police came and asked

However if I liked someone I would 🤷‍♀️

Nottodaty · 08/12/2024 18:38

We had a request before but the neighbour provided a crime ref and a email/portal link for it to be sent to the police directly? Has the police offered anything like this?

The way you’ve responded to this poster makes me think you might have been a bit difficult when asking your neighbour and that’s why he’s said no.

Strictlythebest1 · 08/12/2024 18:41

Nope

Hmm. I sent a msg to the woman in charge of the residents association for the road. She sent a msg out to everyone asking if they have cctv to contact me.
2 people messaged me.
One said "I'll get my son to download the day's data and send to you". Which he did and I said thanks.
The other messaged me to say, yes we have cctv. A discussion ensued during which it emerged he wanted 'a policeman' to visit his house to view it. I tried to make this happen. The police weren't interested, so the man said sorry we can't help.
Don't think it was me, tbh. But this is mn so I fully expected at least someone to blame me!
