Conversation as it was-

A- Next time when you do the dishwasher, rinse the dishes first please. It was a mess when I opened it last time.
B- You don't need to rinse them, only scrape off pieces of food.
A- No, You always need to rinse them. As I said, it was a mess last time.

Person A, there’s no need to pre rinse

Freysimo · 28/11/2024 18:31

I'm with B. There's no need to rinse.

kittybiscuits · 28/11/2024 18:32

If you need to pre rinse, your dishwasher doesn't work. Pre rinsing stopped being a thing about 30 years ago.

stichguru · 28/11/2024 18:32

If you need to pre-rinse you need a new dishwasher!

NigelHarmansNewWife · 28/11/2024 18:32

A is in the wrong. The dishwasher will only be a mess if there's insufficient water circulation due it being over-filled or it needs cleaning.

Merryoldgoat · 28/11/2024 18:33

A is unreasonable. Scraping is perfectly adequate.

Onlyvisiting · 28/11/2024 18:33

A is wrong.
Suggest you clean the filters in your dishwasher if it's not coming clean

ZippyPeer · 28/11/2024 18:34

When dishwashers came out decades ago, you needed to pre rinse. That time has passed and it is now totally unnecessary. And a waste of water.

Vaxtable · 28/11/2024 18:34

A

HunterHearstHelmsley · 28/11/2024 18:35

A is unreasonable and probably needs a new dishwasher.

RedRosesPinkLilies · 28/11/2024 18:35

I would pre rinse. Repair bills are expensive. Can re use same water - run in sink - but worth it to stop food getting caught in filters

StormingNorman · 28/11/2024 18:35

A is unreasonable. You don’t need to pre rinse anymore. Try using a rinse aid and putting less in the dishwasher if it’s not cleaning properly.

Pandasnacks · 28/11/2024 18:36

Sounds like the dishwasher is BU if it can't wash properly unless the dishes are rinsed first.

Jostuki · 28/11/2024 18:36

Both are wrong. Dishwashers are bloody awful and everything should be washed by had.

ZippyLilacStork · 28/11/2024 18:37

I’m with B.
Scrape off solids including remnants of sauces as best you can then straight in.
If you are going to rinse you might as well wash up.
You do have to take care of your dishwasher and clean the filters regularly though.

Forrressstloverr · 28/11/2024 18:37

We never rinse.

Sushicucumbersalad · 28/11/2024 18:37

Normally you wouldn't need to rinse them but if not doing so is causing the dishwasher to be a mess it's clearly not working properly or is a very cheap model. Either buy a new dishwasher or rinse them.

B is wrong in my view

bluebee17 · 28/11/2024 18:38

A

AlisonDonut · 28/11/2024 18:38

Hang on it depends on the dishwasher.

Many dishwashers have a pre wash, where the tablet cabinet pings open after 10 mins. If so, then if the pre wash section doesn't have detergent then the pre wash isn't being utilised properly.

RaininSummer · 28/11/2024 18:39

I have never had a dishwasher but if you need to pre rinse then you might as well wash up anyway. So A.

TheShellBeach · 28/11/2024 18:40

This is why we haven't got a dishwasher.

Whenever we go away, we encounter dishwashers which either don't get things clean, or are incapable of drying things.

We have yet to find a dishwasher that works efficiently.

We do all our own washing up.

devongirl12 · 28/11/2024 18:41

If you rinse, you might as well not even use the dishwasher.

What a waste of time.

NewName24 · 28/11/2024 18:45

Depends what's been on them.

Gravy / sauce / mess - makes sense to rinse them or it just dries on when sitting waiting for the dishwasher to be full

Crumbs / bits of dry food - scrape them off and don't rinse.

Pretty much the same as when I'm washing up by hand, I'd rinse gravy or sauce off before putting plate into the bowl.

stanleypops66 · 28/11/2024 18:45

A is wrong but we have a similar discussion in our house.
