AIBU to think this band might be the most underrated band in the UK...EVER!?

I have just blasted out their greatest hits whilst wrapping presents and had a nostalgic sing-along. So many wonderfully written songs, great singers too. Criminally underrated in my opinion.

I love the Beautiful South. They had a bit of a resurgence on TikTok recently my kids are now into the music too.

Yes, I listen to them all the time, such wonderful songwriting. Girlfriend is my jam.

The only gig I’ve ever walked out of. He basically told the crowd that they were hungover and couldn’t be arsed. It showed!

We have watched some of their old live content back recently as I was blown away but how good Paul’s voice is.

Paul Heaton is a genius

Paul Heatons new album is a joy as well, I'm listening to it a lot right now. Possibly the best song writer this country has ever produced (before anyone comes at me - no I don't rate Lennon & McCartney 😉)

Heaton is an incredible songwriter. Had some great tunes with the Housemartins too. It's a real shame that Jacqui Abbott's health has stopped her from touring with him in recent years.

I can’t stand them. Twee lyrics, always sung smugly and in too high a pitch, with music that sounds like it was written by AI.

If they come on the radio I have to turn it off.

@WinterCrow spot on. I have to turn them off too. I hate them with a passion - I hate the male / female dynamic and their stupid harmonies in an almost pathological way. Urghhh.

Paul Heaton sang with a weird, unnatural accent. They both did, actually. They were really old fashioned even for the time. As pp said, the male/ female dynamic and harmonising particularly. Their songs were often a bit mawkish and dreary. Don’t Marry Her used to make me feel vaguely depressed, even as a kid. Perfect 10 is the most annoying song of all time.

Sorry I have to turn off the radio when they come on- the cheesy rhyming and all their songs sound the same to me. My loss I am sure but I really cannot stand them.

I agree, OP. Paul Heaton has the most beautiful, unique voice.
I have been hoping and hoping that he would come to my local town. It was finally announced on Monday and I bought pre-sale tickets on Tuesday. Beyond excited.
