Just heard that Zoe Ball is stepping down and Scott Mills is taking over the breakfast show. He did a really good job when Zoe was off recently. Wish them both all the best for their new futures.

I miss Sir Terry. It's not been the same since he left!

So true. I recall driving to work gasping for air as I was laughing so hard at Janet and John. I think at the time I was younger than their main audience but loved it so much.

Nourishinghandcream · 20/11/2024 20:52

Agree.

Still love listening to my Janet & John CD's.

I loved the Janet and John stories.

I have everlasting memories of sitting in a traffic jam on Tinsley viaduct on my morning commute listening to them. Terry Wogan was an absolte master of innuendo.

I really like listening to Vernon. I was quite surprised at how much I enjoy his show.

When Sir Terry left the radio show I listened to his farewell speech as I packed my shopping into the car outside Sainsbury’s. I sobbed and sobbed!
Radio 2 went downhill from there! I loved the show, so gentle and hysterical at the same time. Nothing brash or loud ( apart from the sniggering). Janet and John, Pauly, Deadly. Loved them all.
I cried when Terry died as well. Sad times.

I agree @boygirlcatdog - they've updated the DJs but kept the music the same. Need to move the music to the 90s & it would be fab!

But it's the music that's the problem. Greatest hit is growing because radio 2 has a play list of today's music..sorry but that's radio ones job. Radio 2 should be greatest hits...90s to 50s... Elvus, beatles, Ian dury, madonna, oasis...followed by Jimmy young, stones, eagles, wham, blurr...and so on...

I want to listen to today's music. I'm old, but I'm not a dinosaur.

Can't bear SM but can't bear Zoe 'gorgeous girl' Ball either so we don't listen to breakfast anymore. I loved Steve Wright in the afternoon and can't listen to Radio 2 at the mo cos it's SM so may tune back in to Trevor.

Pussycat22 · 20/11/2024 22:26

Wish my beloved Steve Wright was still alive to take over.🥺

IAm16StoneHalloween2024 · 20/11/2024 22:32

Trevor Nelson every afternoon on Radio 2? 😍😍😍

Absolutely. Never got over why R2 replaced the fantastic Steve Wright for the ultra boring Scott Mills. Poor Steve he should never have been replaced.

Once Ken Bruce left, I followed him over to GHR and have stayed on that station ever since. Love that Simon Mayo does Drive Time. Brilliant radio station.

Anjelika · 20/11/2024 22:42

I am no fan of SM in the afternoon but quite liked him when he stood in for ZB at b'fast over the summer.

I'm not too fussed either way about the birthday game but I certainly hope they bin off the awful DI Mills nonsense where some idiot phones in humming and half singing a song they can't remember. Now that really has me reaching for the off button!

I never understand why short things like that can’t be repeated. Entire programmes get repeated on R4 like documentaries, dramas etc, so someone pledging to play one story per week or whatever would be so popular I think.

There were some great shorts on Radio 2 a few years ago, I think they were called Christmas Crackers or something. One narrator was Zoe Wanamaker. They were just funny stories or sad things about Christmas, 10 minutes or so. Never been repeated 🤔. Why not? They paid money to make them, they would stand up as well this Christmas as they did that Christmas.

Really glad Trevor has got the old Steve Wright slot.
Underwhelmed by Scott and didn't like the overexcited puppyness of Zoe, but wish her well.

As for Ritchie Anderson, I cannot compute his rise and rise. Unless he is the secret lovechild of a BBC bigwig.
You could hear the irritation in Ken Bruce's voice when he had to tolerate his twitterings before he left.

Love Lisa Tarbuck, but i don't think she'd be up for any other slot.

Does anyone like Richie Anderson?

I'm so glad I've moved been pushed away from R2

Anjelika · 21/11/2024 10:44

Did anyone hear Ritchie Anderson on the quiz this morning? He is shockingly dim!

SweetBaklava · 21/11/2024 10:50

Having not been a huge fan of SM's in the afternoon slot I'm actually really pleased he's taking over in the mornings. I thought he was terrific when he stood in for Zoe recently, HOWEVER part of the reason for that was Richie's stand in Ellie who was brilliant and at times I couldn't tell whether she was co-hosting or doing the travel 😆... I'm hoping Scott brings her with him as part of the new team 🙏🏻 they are a great combo!

My 11 year old did better than him... as did I having done my GCSEs nearly 40 years ago.

Anjelika · 21/11/2024 11:48

@SweetBaklava exactly that!! As History questions go, they couldn't really have been any easier.

Fireworknight · 21/11/2024 13:45

@Questionary

“Why is Zoe leaving?”

There’s reports in the media that Zoe re-evaluated her life after her mother died, and wanted to spend more time with her family etc. She approached the BBC in September , and they agree to announce her departure once they’d sorted stuff out. I guess the end of the year seems a natural time to end.

Isn't that what radio 1 is for. Radio 2 is meant to be a mix of all types of pop. Radio 3 classical. Radio 4 talk programs. 5 news and sport.

Some of us feel that most music made post 2000 isn't very good, manufactured stars with little talent or ability. I know we've always had that. The archies, sex pistols (to a degree), sig sig sputnik but there seems to be a lot more of them now

Oh, I like music from the 70s onwards but I also like to listen to what's current as well.

I grew out of radio 1 years ago.

CostelloJones · 21/11/2024 23:18

I really like Scott but I’m a bit gutted because we always listen to him on the school pick up, but usually miss the breakfast show.

suki1964 · 21/11/2024 23:18

Ive reverted to listening to Chris Evans on Virgin now Im back working at such early and early hour . Hes grown up a lot and his show is really interesting, a lot different from his R2 days

Never been a fan of Zoe on breakfast and Ive not taken to Scott Mills either . I dont dislike him, I thought he was lovely on Race the World, but if I hear "Love you " said one more time to a person old enough to be his parent, I think I will scream

Looking forward to Trevor Nelson

boygirlcatdog · 22/11/2024 08:13

@SleepToad no Radio 1 is literally only current music and aimed at 16-25 (I think). It's a big old step from that to radio 2 which is a shame as I'd love to listen to Scott in the morning but the music isn't for me. I feel like there should be a Radio 7 for millennials 😂
