When did you take your newborn out

I have a 3 week old baby and I am breastfeeding. I have only taken her to see GP or get vaccine at hospital. She caught cold last week from her brother which kept me worried. I don't feel comfortable yet about breastfeeding outside. I haven't managed to take her out to other places yet like restaurant or coffee shop. Since it's flu season and baby doesn't gets first vaccine until 8 weeks, I feel bit anxious about taking her to supermarket etc. At what age did you start taking your baby out and any tips are appreciated.

From day 1 quite literally. Yes they're babies but they're not the fragile little things people sometimes think. They have lots of strength from your immune system.
But I'm not pushing you either, go when you want to. You can always do small trips if you're worried.

RamblasTapas · 08/11/2024 18:07

Dd was born on a Thursday morning, I took her to church on the Sunday!

NotSmallButFunSize · 08/11/2024 18:08

I took my youngest to her sibling's swimming lessons the next day and a family wedding at day 3 but that was me....

Tbh I am very much of the view that any baby with siblings is constantly surrounded by germs even at home so that wouldn't bother me - it was more decided by either necessity or how I felt physically after the births

itsmeits · 08/11/2024 18:09

First 2weeks
second within the week
Third the day after we got home how else where the others going to get to school

Bornnotbourne · 08/11/2024 18:09

The morning after I had him as I had the school run and had no support. All my daughter’s friends had their sticky little fingers on his face!! My in laws do a 40 day convalescence where mum stays in bed and the women of the family cook, clean and care for other children. My mum would come over critique my parenting then leave!

LavenderFields7 · 08/11/2024 18:09

I would have gone insane if I hadn’t left the house by day 3. What are you worried will happen?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 08/11/2024 18:09

Four days after she was born (by myself, it was on the way home from the hospital the following morning for visiting his parents).

The eldest couldn't walk to school by herself, after all. I needed teabags and something for dinner, too.

TeddyBeans · 08/11/2024 18:10

The same day. Older DC is in school so school runs resumed immediately. First trip to the supermarket was at 3 days old

AlexandraPeppernose · 08/11/2024 18:10

Did the school run at 6 hrs old

alexismul · 08/11/2024 18:10

The day we were released from hospital (day 6). EMCS but needed food- so we went to a restaurant

Stealinghollywood · 08/11/2024 18:11

Three days after he was born by caesarean. There’s no need to stay indoors.

mitogoshigg · 08/11/2024 18:11

Less than 24 hours after she was born, needed smaller clothes as born smaller than expected. Following day went on the bus to town

CurbsideProphet · 08/11/2024 18:12

Apart from a couple of medical appointments (including tongue tie snip!) in the first couple of weeks we didn't go anywhere. I only felt up to going out properly around 4 weeks. I didn't have the miraculous 5mins recovery from c section that I've read about on here! I also didn't feel comfortable breastfeeding in public until that point.

Ihatelittlefriendsusan · 08/11/2024 18:14

Dd was about 16 hours old. But ot really doesn't matter what anyone else would do. You need to do what you feel is best. Just don't let fear be your driving force for staying home. A cold won't do any harm and by the time they are crawling and eating mud you will look back and chuckle at the fear you have now!

Ironically I was told by the nurse on the ward my late MIL was on that they wouldn't expect to see me for 12 weeks as you cant take them out before they are fully vaccinated...I laughed and pointed out i was having a baby not a puppy. When I suddenly had a panic that maybe we shouldn't (I was a ftm) I asked the midwife looking after me just after the birth. She very stoically told me that it was a ridiculous question. I had had a baby not a puppy.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 08/11/2024 18:15

With my 1st baby I think we went out about day 3, and took her to an "event" when she was a week old.

My second baby we went out on day one to the supermarket and managed to get our car trapped in the multistorey carpark! Haha .

Same for my 3rd baby as I had to do the school run as DH was in court (giving evidence for work).

Yes same...my DD was smaller than I had expected so I took her shopping the next day to buy clothes. She had an older brother who attended pre school so had to do the school run from day one anyway

Justleaveitblankthen · 08/11/2024 18:18

10 days, 29 years ago.
It took most of that entire day to get out of the house I recall 😂

merryandbrightdelight · 08/11/2024 18:19

DD1 went on a trip to Tesco when she was about a week old; DD2 went on a trip to Asda when she was 2 days old.

Poor kids, not very exciting 😂

fourelementary · 08/11/2024 18:20

First- erm… didn’t get home until day 3 so maybe day 4/5 to visit in laws?
Second- got home day 2 and went for a walk with her in the pram that night to deliver a wedding card and show her off.
Third- home day 2, out round park day 3.
Fourth- home day 1 and took them to Party at breastfeeding cafe on day 2 (wanted his tongue tie checked!) the midwife gave me a row as I missed her visit 😆

queenofthewild · 08/11/2024 18:21

Came out of hospital 4 days after a csection and went straight to a local pub for lunch.

Mrsttcno1 · 08/11/2024 18:22

The same day we got out of hospital for a wall and to get a nice hot coffee and some lunch

JingsMahBucket · 08/11/2024 18:24

@Dorynnemo I totally thought this was going to be about when you had the baby pulled out of you / delivered 😂

Crazycatlady79 · 08/11/2024 18:24

Was home 48 hours after emergency c-section with my twins.
Out and about the first day we were home, as had step-kids and dog etc to look out for.

Completelyjo · 08/11/2024 18:26

Not taking a baby out until 8 weeks is crazy to me. I was taking baby out for walks by day 5 and coffees, meet ups with other babies from like 3 weeks.
I only waited until day 5 for a walk/ shop as I had a section.

TribeofFfive · 08/11/2024 18:27

DD - the same day we went home
DS1 - 3 days after we came home as we had very heavy snow
DS2 - same day we came home
DS3 - day after we came home (got home late at night)

do try and get out OP. It’ll do you the world of good.
